I felt the need to comment on a quote of Brian Houston, trying to explain who “god” is, and how Muslims and Jews once up on a time worshiped the same “god”. The concerned video with his explanation is published below.
The quotes of the Hillsong leader:
“How do you view God? In a desert there’s two types of birds: there’s vultures and there’s hummingbirds. One lives off dead carcasses, rotting meat. The other lives off the beautiful, sweet nectar in a particular flower on a particular desert plant. In the same desert, they both find what they’re looking for.
Do you know – take it all the way back into the Old Testament and the Muslim and you, we actually serve the same God. Allah to a Muslim, to us Abba Father God. And of course through history, those views have changed greatly. But lets make sure that we view God through the eyes of Jesus, the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the beauty of a Saviour, the loving open inclusive arms of a loving God. And that way we’ll lead out of that and you’ll be purposeful about your leadership and you’ll draw people just like the Lord Jesus always does through the power of the Holy Spirit.”

I have always warned against Charismatic leaders who have stopped sharing from the scriptures. One of them are Brian Houston, head pastor in Hillsong, Australia.
When you stop sharing the scriptures, you replace the Word of God with “stories”. And you add human wisdom. Somehow you start to use the idea of a “god” to fit into your own thinking and philosophies.
Very often this kind of story-telling also fall short of basic historical facts related to world history. This shallow and quite fraudulent presentation of the similarities of Islam and Christianity falls into this category. If Muslims and Jews worshiped the same God of the Old Testament, that Jesus is obviously a “different god”. Funny that the Muslims who according to Brian Houston did worship God, did not understand that “god” suddenly changed.
Second: The Koran is written 1500 years after the Hebrew Bible. So up to 620 A.D, there was no Muslims walking on the face of the Earth. No even one.
So, since the Muslims had to wait for 600 years after Jesus walked on the face of the Earth before they understood who God is, they must have worshiped “god” in retrospect. Since Muslims deny that God has a Son, equally God as the Father, this must have been a strange kind of worship, more like in the movie “back to the future”…. This kind of statements make the true faith in the Messiah look shallow, silly and absolutely: NEW AGE!.

What are the basic principles of this world?
Man is born a hopeless sinner, and inhabits a fallen world, yet delusionally persists in imagining that he is his own master
Satan has dominion over sinners and controls them mercilessly
Mans pride makes him self righteous and independent, thinking that he can save himself
The only authentic and God ordained way of salvation from this mess is found only in Jesus Christ.
Without repentance their is no forgiveness of sins.
A gospel that denies the existence of sin, or one that fails to confront sin, is a FALSE one
It is amazing-and very worrying-how many ministers in this day and age have capitulated to the self centred, vain demands of a post modern heathen culture, and as a result have been compelled to adopt “an alternative gospel” that akes light of sin, denies Hell, asserts that there are many ways to find “god”. Essentially, they desperately want to be “liked” on farcebook, they crave attention and popularity, dont want to offend any one in case it damages their church-business interests.

It is obvious for all who can read between the lines, that the Hillsong leader wants to legalize Islam as an “Abrahamic religion”. That will bring Islam inline with the other two Arahamic religions, Judaism and Christianity. Muslims claims to be descendents of Ishamel, the son Abraham got with Hagar, his maid.
Ther is obviously a gap in time between this claim and relality. Since Islam was birthed 2.700 years after Ishamel was born.
There was no Muslims before 630 A.D. Not a single one. So what kind of being were all Muslims, in all the years between Ishmael and Muhammad?
I can claim to be a descendant of Napoleon. It might not be a very good claim, based on historical facts.

Actually, it’s not the muslims, but rather the Arabs who claim to be descendants of Ishmael. And this has traditionally/historically been accepted as a fact. Arabs have been present for centuries, long before Islam even existed.
There were even Arabs present on the day of Pentecost in Jerusalem! Probably some were even saved that day. Yay! 🙂
(There are true Arab believers in the God of the Bible, and in the Lord Jesus Christ even today. Praise God for that! When they use the word ‘Allah’ it simply means ‘God’. They of course by no means accept the Islamic version of ‘god’ or ‘Jesus’.)
I’m apalled that ‘pastors’ such as Houston take such great clames on their lips. Either he must be really naive about what he is saying, wanting to ‘build bridges’ (?), or sad to say, he is like so many others leading his sheep on the wide lane towards ecumenism, and even interfaith.
To claim that Allah of the Quran is tha same as God of the Bible, is totally false! Then, as you say Ivar, Houston is in effect preaching a false Jesus – since the god of Islam has no son.
I’m afraid these kind of ‘bridge building’ statements will come more and more frequent – from the lips of pastors who should know better.
Hi brothers and sisters – I’m from Brisbane, Australia, and I want to let you all know that Brian Houston is known as a false prophet amongst all true believers here (Downunder). His large and ever growing Hillsong ’empire’ does not impress us and his recent gaffe about Muslims worshiping the same God as Jews and Christians is just about the worst thing he’s said for some time.
In case anyone on your blog still has doubts as to the motives and agenda behind this false man, he recently opened up a “nightclub church” in downtown Fortitude Valley – an inner city suburb of Brisbane, notorious for its sleazy night time venues, drugs, proliferation of prostitutes and crooks of every kind (some of them on government payrolls.)

Houston is, ostensibly indicating that he wants to reach the down and outs of our society, but when you analyze the landscape of that suburb (5 minutes bus ride from where I live,) then that’s just another lie.
The ‘Valley’ area is being systematically bulldozed into new high rise real estate – living apartments, along with new shops, offices, cafe’s and eateries and is very close to a major train station, two large parking facilities and looks like (when the redevelopment of the Valley is finished) their new ‘city campus’ in Wickham Street, will be one city block over from the new “Millionaires’ row” in Anne Street and another one one block the other way in St Paul’s terrace.
This is all very clever positioning and marketing of the Hillsong ‘brand’ and is not, by any means an outreach to the poor, but is a definite move to ensnare the rich into a comfortable “no-sin-no gospel” church that will not challenge or offend the lifestyles of the rich and powerful who may be dumb enough to attend.
Thousands of people commute through the Valley railway station and nearby bus stops and parking facilities – so “marketing is position” is the old real estate maxim and of course, Brian and Bobbie Houston have taken this and twisted it too, by placing themselves in the way of all these people seven days a week.
I seriously doubt that Hillsong will have any impact on the surrounding ‘sin city’ that the Valley has become, and if anything, it will, like the chameleon organisation it is, blend in with the world, while appearing to “have a form of godliness, but denying the real power thereof (for repentance and change before God)… (1 Timothy 3:5)

I believe it grieves the heart of God for you to criticize and condemn a Man of God like Brian Houston. And I very-much believe he is just that based on years of following him and Hillsong and actually having a son attend school there. But even if his motives may not be pure or if he may be in error on some issues, whatever happened to “…The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice.” (Philippians 1:18b)? I can assure you, they advocate “…repentance and change before God.” They preach Christ and Him crucified! They preach loving God and loving your neighbor! I understand disagreeing with him/Hillsong on some philosophical issues, but the thing that grieves me, and I believe God as well, is that there is no love in what many of you say. And you also aren’t following the model outlined in scripture on how to address someone with whom you disagree. If you have something against Brian Houston and his church members, why aren’t you talking to them? Why, instead, do you slander (and slander is saying something critical of someone in public, even if it’s true) them online for millions of skeptics and unbelievers to rejoice over? We are supposed to be known by our love for one another, but instead, we play right into satan’s hands by criticizing and judging each other in a public forum. Please, stop being a pawn of the enemy. Reach out to Pastor Houston and express your concerns. Listen to his messages with a heart of love, not negativity. Attend one of their conferences. Talk to the members. Go up to those serving and ask them to tell you their testimony – why they serve. Assume the best. I call tell you that my son was lost and without a purpose until he encountered the Holy Spirit through the ministry of Hillsong Church. He is faithfully serving Jesus at two Churches and on a university campus in the States b/c of his love for and dedication to seeing young adults encounter Jesus Christ. Please pray and seek God before you criticize someone in ministry. I believe God through His Holy Spirit will lead you to say things differently and from a different perspective.

Not the experience I have had with members of my own family where they defriended me okn facebook, refuse to communicate and live no different to the world about them, their commuications is never about anything deep, they stay away from serious issues and take exception to badic Christian truths.
.This church has so diverged from what Christianity is and until you step away as I have from the church then you will not see what people are saying.
Many have tried to speak to the Houstons and their leadership on these matters and have got NO WHERE. It is therfore up to those who know, to warn and protest the abuse of Gods Word and His Flock.

The city campus here in Brisbane has moved from the old Mett nightclub in Wicked Street (sorry Wickham Street,) in Fortitude Valley. Perhaps the real reason for the move is twofold:
1) their failure to lure in the bulk of the ‘gay community’ from the nearby Wickham Hotel – a Public bar that is just down on the next corner from the Mett venue, and has been an openly gay pub since 1996. See local link:

2) they are now perhaps going after the ‘arts’ community (after dumping off the ‘gay’ community?) at a more respectable distance (two city blocks) from the ‘nightclub’ scene and at the same time, may be vieing for tax payer’s money from the Queensland state government via Arts Council grants, and then hosting ‘seminars in the field of creative arts’ as a cover for getting vulnerable but creative people into their web of deception.
This comes as no surprise as the Hillsong church was accused of rorting government money from the state government in NSW years ago on the pretense of working with youth and homeless people, and misspending it on other things, but with no real accountability.
For those who come to your blogsite regularly, believing that “Brian Houston is a man of God…” I refer them to the hillsongchurchwatch.com blog, where there are numerous factual stories about the Houstons and their lavish lifestyles, their false doctrines and shady practices and lots more – so far removed from the lifestyles of Jesus and the Apostles, as to make their stance and arguments laughable.
If it wasn’t sad enough to make people cry, then we would all be laughing along with the media and the general public, but the situation here and in other countries where Hill$ong has substantial influence, is far from funny. Hillsong attracts 25 to 30,000 people each week in Australia alone, and in terms of their global impact, some 50+ million people follow them on social media, at international conferences and through their ministry and music outlets – yes folks – 50 MILLION people. That’s larger than some country’s populations, and Brian Houston holds sway over them, like the Grand Poobah of some secretive cult organisation.
