Spanish Catholics use skull to bless wine

The skull of San Guillermo (William) is used to bless wine and water in the village of Obanos, just south of Pamplona in Spain.

The Roman Catholic priest pull wine through a skull, to bless the wine.

This is what the local newspaper reported from his feast day, 9th of April 2015.

More than 200 residents of the village of Obanos (Navarra ) held on Thursday 9 April the feast of St. William and , as is tradition, 180 liters of wine blessed and water through the skull of the saint relic preserved in the church of San Juan Bautista .

After a Mass celebrated at noon , there was a procession with the relic, now covered in silver , on nearby streets .

Religious and popular tradition goes back more than four centuries ago and as then, the residents of this town in the valley Valdizarbe gathered around the church of San Juan Bautista to drink wine and water blessed after passing through the skull of St. William ( or San Guillén) , relic preserved in the local chapel of Arnotegui . Tradition says that blessed wine and water have healing effects and remove the headache .

All who make idols are nothing,
    and the things they treasure are worthless.
Those who would speak up for them are blind;
    they are ignorant, to their own shame.

    which can profit nothing?
11 People who do that will be put to shame;
    such craftsmen are only human beings.
Let them all come together and take their stand;
    they will be brought down to terror and shame.

My comment:

Gulliermo of Obanos lived in the 17th century, and the legend says he murdered his own sister Felicia, also a “saint”. Whatever. This is a local “saint” that is not canonized by the Pope, still his “holy head” is kept for adoration in the local church of San Juan Bautista.

Gulliermo did gift his life to the “Lady of Arnotegui” (the virgin of the wine site). The main reason for why the coal parish Roman Catholic priest use his skull to bless the local wine.

It is terrible that these kind of religious rituals, are presented as true Christianity. The local “saint” of Obanos is promoted among the Roman Catholic pilgrims, on their way Santiago de Compostela.

Ephesians 5:11
Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.

The Bible do not tell us to keep quiet when we see this kind of defamation of the true Christian faith. We are supposed to expose this kinds of religious people.

May Jesus the Messiah have mercy on all decived souls. Amen.

    1. Dear Rommgirl

      Shalom, and love in Jesus.

      It is spectacular, that a Roman Catholic priest believe that blessing vine, using a skull, will remove headache from all who drink this stuff. How blind can a priest be? And why is noone stopping him?

      The reason why this has continued for hundreds of years, is that use of skulls in religious rituals, amounts to witchcraft. This religious movement in not only a disgrace. It is extremely dangerous. People lose their promised salvation, and are placed under God’s stern judgment.

      1. [This religious movement in not only a disgrace. It is extremely dangerous. People lose their promised salvation, and are placed under God’s stern judgment.]

        You do not seem to care much about God’s judgement on the unbelieving Jews, nor your own judgement for preaching falsehood that the Jews who have rejected the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ are children of God. They are not and will never be, for without Jesus Christ, man cannot know the only true God.

  1. Before I read the bible I would see things like that, and hear the claimed miracles etc. Not really believing in it, but who was I to say it was fantasy. Thankfully i read the bible and can agree with what you say in the article, it’s witchcraft, hocuc pocus and nothing to do with God.

  2. Have to say I never looked at it that way myself witchcraft and a religious movement. Thanks Ivarfjeld for putting it that way. I was seeing it it like Rommgirl as well.

    1. Dear Andrea

      Shalom, and love in Jesus.

      Witchcraft is from the occult realm. It works. Satan has the power to perform false miracles, signs and wonders. Therefore, Christians must listen to brothers and sisters who have the gifts of discernment. Unfortunately, many pastors do not want to listen.

      Is is a mortal error, to endorese the Pope as a Christian leader. If you do, this mistake will take you down the path towards destruction. A path for all who compromise on truth.

      You will loose your salvation, because the Pope will use tickery, to make you his subject. He will claim that “since the RCC is the oldests Church, and have 1.1 billion “baptized” members, He is the natural leader who can unite all Christians”.

      It will be very difficult to come up with good reasons, why “Christians” should not stand united. This is the path of the antichrists.

  3. I agree with you Ivarfjeld Shalom and love in Jesus to you as well. For the life of me I wonder if some of them ever read the bible especially from the sites that I have visited. One is stuck on the cathecism. So, as far as being in the u.s. The talk stays on the catechism and not one time ever these skull and bones have been mentioned. Thank you for taking the time for pointing out the significance of these rituals. The ecunemimenical movement is one I have no interest in. Sounds good but is a very sinister plan. I will choose Jesus he is the one who gave his life for me and will give me eternal life. I refuse to believe The Catholic Church was built on Peter. Give me a break. Throw away the catechism and some Catholics can’t explain themselves.

  4. Ivarvi am Protestant en u ur putting us in big problem insulting other people en churches… Question what are u good at since others are children of devil l..rem two pple went to pray in the temple Pharisee en publican reflect on.. Again swear to God angle came to tell u that all Catholics on earth worship devil and insulting priest en others if u don’t av that gift don’t steal …u will work hard to attain ur living don’t harvest where not planted ….I am Protestant en I can see ur empty….

  5. Protestants aren’t what they used to be. Protestant originally mean’t protesting the falsehoods of the Catholic church. I have a 400 year old bible with sidenotes by the original Protestant teachers, they say right in there “The Pope is the antichrist and ambassador of Satan” “As Christ kingdom is of heaven and leadeth men tither, the popes kingdom is of the earth and leadeth men to perdition” They talked kind of funny back then but it is as true today as it was then, though there are less people saying it.

    1. Dear Edward.

      Shalom, and love in Jesus.

      Thanks for this comment. The issue about the Pope, is important. He can not be both a Christian leader, and an antichrist. Anyone who is wrong on this issue, does a terrible mistake.

  6. Right, anyone who calls themselves Christs are of the same church. Listen to the words of Paul. “Is Christ divided”? No, you are Christs, not Pauls, and not the Popes.

    1 Cor 1:13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized in the name of Paul?

    We’re you baptized into the name of the Pope?

  7. Commentary from Navarre, Spain.
    Maybe in former times people gave some credence to the virtues of wine so processed. Today everybody, priests included, give a f**k about it. What they do is having plenty of fun with a traditional festival, eating, drinking, and enjoying the day with friends and family.
    If you are interested, there is at least another skull cult in Navarre, namely the head of San Gregorio Ostiense. Speciallity: crop protection throug skull-treated water.
