Florida officials have arrested radical anti-Islam preacher Terry Jones as he was on his way to a Sept. 11 event where he planned to burn 2,998 Korans, according to local news reports Wednesday.

Jones is best known for stoking Muslim anger by publicly desecrating the religion’s holy book, sometimes with international consequences.

This time law enforcement officials intervened before Jones could carry out his plans for a ceremonial Sept. 11 burning.

Jones had planned to set alight 2,998 Korans at a Polk County park for the 12-year anniversary, with each Koran “representing one of the victims, every person who was murdered by Islam,” according to one of his news releases — a casualty total that perhaps accidentally included the 19 hijackers.

County officials had reportedly denied Jones’ permit application to use the Loyce E. Harpe Park near Mulberry for the burning.

Before the event, which Jones had planned to attend anyway, the Gainesville-based preacher was reportedly arrested for driving with kerosene in a barbecue grill, officials told The Ledger, a Polk County newspaper. A local ABC affiliate reported that Jones had Korans inside the grill.

My comment:

Since Christians do not want anyone to burn the Bible, we should not support anyone who want to burn the Koran.

If we believe in freedom of expression, and freedom of religion, we need to take a firm stand based in these principles.

Evangelical Christians need to be able to take any debate related to faith, and be able to communicate with anyone.

This also includes a debate on the book “Main Kampf”, the biography of Adolf Hitler.

It is a huge mistake not to read this book. It will give you insight in who an anti-Christ feel and think. Hitler believed in building the Millennium kingdom on Earth, and that he was the savior of Germany and the World.

Jesus the Messiah did not burn the books of the pagans. He told his followers to be light and salt in the World, and not to harm anyone.

  1. Thank you for your comment!

Treat others the same way you want to be treated. I think most religions believe that. Unfortunately, only the lunatics make the headlines, ruining it for the rest of us. Any hate-preacher, pretending to represent any religion, should be ignored. It’s not fair or accurate to label all based on one idiots actions.

Imagine if Jones represented all Christians? Or the Westboro Baptist Church? Yeah, not so fun eh.

As a Muslim, I’ve been raised to respect other people’s beliefs. Obviously the media begs to differ, but I learned to block out all the religious nuts who run around hating in the name of whatever faith.

As for Jones, maybe instead of burning 2998 Qurans, he should try reading just 1. Who knows, he might learn something. But then again that requires a certain degree of sanity.

  2. Sorry, I couldn’t disagree more! While I could care less if this pastor is successful with his Koran burning or not, I WILL NOT give the Koran the same respect as The Bible. You are right that Jesus told us not to harm anyone, however, Mohammed was not as gracious, since he told his followers to kill all infidels. Jesus warned us not to have fellowship with darkness, we don’t give reverence or respect to a false religion or it’s book. I am not saying to be disrespectful or unchristian towards the lost, but we also don’t put their beliefs on the same level as ours.

  3. I don’t agree with this Jones burning Qurans. To knowingly offend or alienate someone by actions like this is wrong in my opinion. If someone is offended by the gospel or by Christian beliefs then that is a different matter. But to stir up strife and ill will between people will probably close more doors than it will open.
