87 out of 100 US senators signed a letter calling on Obama to pressurize Abbas.

Many Americans are scared that Obama will use his time in the White House to betray the state of Israel.
But 87 senators taking a different approach to Israel is a signal that America has more than one voice. The letter thy signed called Obama to pressurize Ababs to keep talking about peace regardless of renewed constructions in Jewish settlements.
The good news is that Obama is not totally free to form the Foreign policy of the United States of America. The US President do need support for the US Congress, and in particular the support of the majority of senators.
Today, the majority of the senators are supportive to the Israeli viewpoints on the Middle East peace process. Tomorrow will tell its own story.
87 U.S. senators have already signed on to a letter, initially circulated last week, calling on President Obama to publicly pressure Palestinian President Abbas to continue with direct peace talks with Israel.
The letter stated that “Neither side should make threats to leave just as the talks are getting started,” a thinly veiled reference to Abbas’ multiple statements that he would leave the talks if the settlement construction moratorium was not extended.
Some pro-Israel groups in Washington, which have perceived Obama as willing to publicly pressure Netanyahu but not Abbas, are lending their support to the senators’ message.
“AIPAC strongly applauds this overwhelming, bipartisan statement supporting these important direct talks, and making crystal clear to President Abbas that staying at the table – without preconditions or threats – is the only path to peace,” said AIPAC spokesman Josh Block.
