John 1. 26-27
«I baptize in water», John replied, «but among you stands one you do not know. He is the one who comes after me, the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie».
John the Immerser explained that the Messiah already were among the Jewish people in Spirit. But the Jews did not know Him. John denied being the Messiah. He was called to prepare the way for the Son of God, finally to come in flesh to pay the perfect atonement for the sins of not only the Jewish people, but the whole World.
