When Herod realized that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had learned from the Magi.

There have been many attempted genocide on Jews. Among them, the killing of all Hebrew infants during the captivity in Egypt under Pharaoh. When Jesus was born the attempted genocide came from within the Jewish community. The Jewish king Herod tried to genocide his own Jewish brethren in and around the city of Bethlehem. This show the kind of extreme evil the devil is willing to use to block the Messiah from returning to Earth. Even Jews killing Jews.
