John 1. 48-49
“How do you know me?” Nathanael asked. Jesus answered, “I saw you while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you.” Then Nathanael declared, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel.
This is an amazing event. The Messiah had been watching and studying Jewish Nathanael, without his notice. And Jesus had found no fault in him. Nathanael calls Jesus for «Rabbi», knowing the greatness of the teacher who just spoke to him. But even more. He was addressed by God, the supreme King of Israel.
