General strike proves Israel is a democracy

Israeli workers open general strike, disrupting airport and economy.

Disruption of air trafic in Tel Aviv is a fruit of the general strike in Israel.

Israel’s main labor union declared a strike on Wednesday that caused delays at Ben Gurion airport, and affected banks, hsopitals,

government offices, trains, the stock exchange, and more, after talks with the government failed to produce an agreement on the status of workers employed through labor contractors.

Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz called the strike unnecessary, saying it could cost the economy billions of shekels if it continues. He accused the Histadrut labor federation of being entrenched in its positions.

My comment:

One of the pillars of democratic states, is the peoples rights to form workers unions. If the Unions do agree with the Government, hay have a democratic right to call a general strike.

The Unions’s do not have the right to put the very national security at risk.  In 1973, the Israeli nation learned a hard lesson. During the holiest day of Judaism, an Pan Arabian force took advantage and tries to destroy the Jewish homeland.

That Israel is a democratic state is a true miracle. Despite all her enemies trying to destroy her in en everlasting Jihad, she still holds of to the pickles of freedom and democracy, being of higher value than national security.

 Isaiah 46:13
I am bringing my righteousness near, it is not far away; and my salvation will not be delayed. I will grant salvation to Zion, my splendor to Israel.

Only God of the Bible can express such grace. Without God’s very protection over Israel, this nation would cease to exit within the very next 24 hours.

    1. Dear James.

      Shalom.

There is nothing godly about democracy. Democracy got Israel the golden calf.

      My comment:

Democracy might not produce the most godly society. But we have to acknowledge that God gave man authority over his own life. The best way for humans to solve their own problems, is democracy. No better way of organizing large populated areas have been found.

      1. We do not have to acknowledge anything that is not true. God did not give man ‘authority over his own life’; God gave man *freedom*, which man *mis*used to appropriate – or rather *attempt* to appropriate – for himself ‘authority over his own life’ (autonomy, self-sufficiency), authority that rightly belongs to God alone. Read the early chapters of Genesis. We are meant to *live* in the Law of God, not in our own man-made laws, which lead to death.

The ‘best way for humans to solve their problems’ is to follow the Law of God, to surrender to His holy and perfect will, and therein to discover the true spiritual Paradise of freedom, which our first parents lost for us through their disobedience.

What proof do you have to support your claim that large populated areas can only be governed by ‘democracy’?

Democracy in Greek means the ‘power’ or ‘rule’ of the _demos_, the masses. Democracy is all about the lowest common denominator. It relativizes everything. Right and wrong are no longer absolutes, but are things to be decided by the rule of the majority. Who cares if God says homosexuality is an abomination? The majority says it’s just as valid as heterosexuality…. That is where democracy leads.

I say this not because I have a solution, but because I think we have to be realistic about the pitfalls of whatever system we are living under, and not replace timeless truth with historically conditioned prejudice. Remember that every Christian society prior to 1776 believed that monarchy was the only Godly form of government. Not saying I endorse such a view unreservedly, but it does make you think.

I brought this up because you seemed to be implying that one reason for Christians to support the Israeli state is that it is democratic. But on reality Christians should view democracy with suspicion.
