The Israeli army fights for freedom with the Bible and the gun

What makes life in Israel unique is the prophetic connection to the Bible which is evident in all aspects of life. Israel may be a large secular country, but its founded on Biblical principles.

IDF+prayer
An Israeli soldier spend some time in prayer. God of the Bible is listening.

You come across it everywhere from Prophets street in Jerusalem to suburbs like Mevasseret Zion. (O Zion, bearer of good News, Isaiah 40:9.).

The latest place I experienced it, was at my daughters graduation ceremony from basic training in the IDF. (Israel defense force). No other army in the world inducts its soldiers with the following words:

«Every place on which the sole of your foot treads, I have given it to you…Be strong and courageous. Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go». (Joshua 1:3-9).

That establishes a connection with salvation history and the first entry into the Promised land, the God that lead Joshua and the Israelites back still leads them now. He is the God of the armies of Israel. (1. Sam 17:45).

So in a highly symbolic act, when soldiers are sworn in, they receive a Bible on one hand and an assault rifle in the other. Its the sword of the spirit (Ephesians 6:17), and the sword of the flesh, and spiritually both go hand in hand. Even through God him self led Israel into the land, He accomplished His purposes through the force of arms.

My comment:

The Israeli Army is not perfect. Men like Moses, Joshua and King David committed mistakes, and todays generals and soldiers do fail in critical situations. Thats is a part of being human.

But God of Israel do not commit mistakes. Neither does He sleep. He watches over the Jewish people, rebukes and disciplines them. Finally when the Messiah returns, every Jew and the state of Israel will be judged.

There have never been a more concerned army in the history of mankind, than the IDF. Both concerned of killing innocent civilians, and to keep its own soldiers alive and safe from Islamic terrorist and suicide bombers.

Hat off for both the generals and the soldiers in the IDF. We stand with you, and will defend your right to self-defense.
