250 killed in deadliest Tornado outbreak in 40 years

Residents search through what is left of their homes in Pleasant Grove, just west of downtown Birmingham, Ala.

PLEASANT GROVE, Ala. – Dozens of massive tornadoes tore a town-flattening streak across the South, killing at least 250 people in six states and forcing rescuers to carry some survivors out on makeshift stretchers of splintered debris. Two of Alabama’s major cities were among the places devastated by the deadliest twister outbreak in nearly 40 years.

As day broke Thursday, people in hard-hit areas surveyed obliterated homes and debris-strewn streets. Some told of deadly winds whipping through within seconds of weather alerts broadcast during the storms Wednesday afternoon and evening

“It happened so fast it was unbelievable,” said Jerry Stewart, a 63-year-old retired firefighter who was picking through the remains of his son’s wrecked home in Pleasant Grove, a suburb of Birmingham. “They said the storm was in Tuscaloosa and it would be here in 15 minutes. And before I knew it, it was here.”

My Comment:

Having proved time and time again that His Word is the complete truth, Jesus Christ warned us that in the end days there will be terrible times, and signs in the sun, moon, stars, and on earth will occur.

Luke 21:25-26

There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. People will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken.

We who believe in Him, have nothing to fear. For Our King is with us always. In His love for us, Jesus provided the signs to look for prior to his coming. The signs are all around us, and soon we will see our Messiah Jesus, coming with Great Power and Glory!

Luke 21: 27-28

At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”

Knife thugs slash to death 1,000

Worsening violence: The confirmed death toll since the disputed election is around 1,300 but the actual figure is likely to be be much higher.

By Richard Hartley-Parkinson

A thousand civilians have been found massacred in a small town in Ivory Coast amid worsening civil conflict in the West African state.

The victims were discovered by aid agency workers in Duekoue. Some had been shot and others hacked to death with machetes.

It was not clear last night who carried out the attacks, but the area is thought to be in the control of supporters of Alassane Ouattara, who won Ivory Coast’s election late last year. President Laurent Gbagbo has refused to step down.

Red Cross spokesman Dorothea Krimitsas warned: ‘There is a risk this kind of event can happen again.’

Last night 10,000 refugees crowded into Duekoue’s Catholic church, guarded by 1,000 United Nations peacekeepers.

Heavy fighting has continued in the main city, Abidjan, as Ouattara’s forces battle for the presidential palace.

My Comment:

The coldness of men’s hearts who choose to murder people, and have no morals and consciences are clearly on the path to hell.  It is very clear in the Word of God, that those who murder and do not repent from their sin, are of the devil.

John 8:44

“You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.”

That we are in the end times, is pretty clear to those that truly follow Jesus Christ. But to all, difficult times will continue until our Messiah Jesus Christ comes with great power and Glory.

2 Timothy 3:1-5,7

“But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come.  For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of god; holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.”

And to all those that choose not to repent from their sins, Jesus Christ Our King is clear as to where you will end up.  It is not too late to repent, and accept Jesus Christ as your Savior.

Revelation 21:8

But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.

U.S. Ends Restrictions on Weapons Exports to India

The United States on Jan. 25 said it was ending export restrictions for India’s defense and space industries, eyeing trade with a nation shunned for more than a decade over its nuclear weapons program.

America is just the leader of a group of industrial countries that are selling massive quantities of deadly weapons to every country on earth.

“These actions will open important new opportunities for our companies and governments on cooperating in the defense and space areas,” said Robert Blake, the assistant secretary of state for South Asia.

Obama announced on a visit to India in November that he was easing the restrictions, but he did not provide details at the time.

The US hopes that the agreement will allow its companies to cash in as India ramps up nuclear power to provide for a fast-growing economy, as it is also bidding to sell India weapons as it modernizes its military, particularly its aging air force.

Commerce Secretary Gary Locke, who called the easing of restrictions “a significant milestone in reinforcing the U.S.-India strategic partnership,” plans to head to India in early February to promote high-tech trade.

He will be accompanied by 24 companies include The Boeing Co., Lockheed Martin Corp. and Westinghouse Electric Co., according to the Commerce Department.

My comments;

This story is one of many about the massive increase in the global trade in weapons, which is one of the few areas of economic activity that is truly flourishing, even as most of the rest of the world economy continues to be extremely weak.  If I wanted to, I could post 50 links to similar stories that I’ve seen on various news sites over the past few months, from news sites all over the world.

The fact that so many governments still make it a priority to spend money on weapons when their people are starving is disheartening, but only slightly less disheartening is the fact that there are so many countries eager to sell to them.

I’ve known a few weapons manufacturers in my time. Their mentality is very close to that of a drug dealer. They have a product that they can sell and make a lot of money, they want to sell as much as possible and they really don’t care who gets hurt or how much damage it causes.

India has hundreds of millions of people living on less than $2 a day. It shouldn’t be spending money on missiles, but it has to because China, Pakistan and Iran are doing the same thing, even though they also have many things that it would be better for them to spend money on.

The US, meanwhile, has many people out of work, and the manufacture of weapons is one of the few businesses that continues to employ a lot of people.

Yeshua (Jesus) speaking of the End Times, said  in Mark 13:20:

Unless the Lord had shortened those days, no life would have been saved; but for the sake of the elect, whom He chose, He shortened the days.

We must pray urgently that God will spare us and those we love from the worst of what’s coming soon.  The massive increase in weapons trafficking, legal and illegal, is just one symptom of the coming catastrophe.

Rising food prices stoke unrest

Rising food prices, which triggered the downfall of the Tunisian regime and rioting in Algeria, threaten further trouble across the Middle East and North Africa, a region heavily dependent on food imports.

When people are hungry they get angry, and when they get angry they get violent.

The food crisis along with mushrooming populations, expanding desertification, dwindling water resources and growing unemployment create an explosive mix across the volatile region at a time when many fear new wars may soon erupt.

The surprise downfall of President Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali Jan. 14 amid violent street protests over food prices, poverty, unemployment and decades of repression has galvanized people across the region that stretches from the Atlantic in the west to the shores of the Indian Ocean in the east.

Algeria also saw street protests sparked by increased process for basic food items. Rampant unemployment was also a factor. Similar, though less intense, protests were reported in Jordan and Libya.

The United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization reported Jan. 5 that its worldwide food price index hit a record high in December, exceeding the 2008 peak.

Countries in the Middle East and North Africa, with limited arable land, have to import most of their food. And the cost of those imports mushroomed from $16 billion in 2006 to $20 billion in 2007, according to the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development.

As populations expand while the amount of farmland and water supply shrinks, resource wars are expected to erupt across the Middle East and Africa in the years ahead.

“Unchecked land-grabbing carries with it the seeds of conflict, environmental disaster, political and social change, and hunger on an unprecedented scale,” Le Monde Diplomatique warned.

My comment;

Jesus warned us in Mark 13:7;

When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be frightened; those things must take place; but that is not yet the end.

The prophecy in Revelation 6:8 says;

And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.

These are prophecies about the End of this Age. If we are wise, we can see that these prophecies are coming to pass right in front of our eyes.  Soon, everything we see around us will be swept away.

There isn’t much time left for us to get right with God. The way to do that is to repent of our sins and ask God to forgive us by accepting the sacrifice of His Son Yeshua Ha’Mashiach (Jesus Christ.) There is no other way, as Yeshua said in John 14:6:

I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.

If you already believe that, than you need to start praying, fasting, reading your Bible and strengthening your relationships with other Beleivers like you’ve never done before. This is it!  This is what all of Human history has been leading up to.

If you’re not being strong to practice your faith now, you won’t make it through what’s coming, and there won’t be any more second chances.
