Israel hands Russia ownership of Jerusalem site

JERUSALEM – Israel is handing back ownership of a czarist-era landmark in the heart of Jerusalem to Russia, defusing a long-simmering dispute between the two countries right before Israel’s leader visits Moscow.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office has not disclosed the agenda for Thursday’s visit but he is expected to urge Moscow not to sell sophisticated missiles to Syria and to support efforts to keep Iran’s nuclear ambitions in check.

The return of ownership of the property known as Sergei’s Courtyard, approved in 2008, appeared to be a goodwill gesture ahead of the visit.

The hewn stone building, built in 1890 to accommodate Russian pilgrims to the Holy Land, is a prominent edifice on the Jerusalem landscape with its soaring turret and lush garden. About a dozen workers were moving crates out of the building Monday and loading them into trucks.

“Israel is vacating Sergei’s Courtyard in accordance with the understandings reached between Israel and the Russian Federation,” an Israeli official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the matter with the media.

The site was named for Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich, a son of Czar Alexander III, and is part of a complex known as the Russian Compound. Israel bought most of it from the Soviet Union in the early 1960s, paying with oranges because it didn’t have hard currency.

Israel seized control of it after the Soviet Union severed ties with the Jewish state following the 1967 Mideast war. The two countries restored ties in 1991 and negotiations to return the courtyard ownership to Russia began in the 1990s.

In 2005, then-Prime Minister Ariel Sharon promised former Russian President Vladimir Putin the land would be returned. Three years later, Israeli Cabinet formally agreed to hand over the courtyard, which now houses offices of Israel’s Agriculture Ministry and the Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel.

My Comment:

By giving Russia ownership of a Jerusalem site, Israel is opening a huge can of worms, and leaving themselves wide open for Russia, who will in the end deceive and attack them.

The word “Gog” mentioned in the Holy Word of God been determined by many Bible historians/scholars to be referring to what is now Russia. And since we are living in the end of age, Russia will be one of the countries who will descend onto Israel to try and destroy the land and people.

Ezekiel 39

¹ “Son of man, prophesy against Gog and say: ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: I am against you, Gog, chief prince of Meshek and Tubal. ² I will turn you around and drag you along. I will bring you from the far north and send you against the mountains of Israel. ³ Then I will strike your bow from your left hand and make your arrows drop from your right hand. ⁴ On the mountains of Israel you will fall, you and all your troops and the nations with you. I will give you as food to all kinds of carrion birds and to the wild animals. ⁵ You will fall in the open field, for I have spoken, declares the Sovereign LORD. ⁶ I will send fire on Magog and on those who live in safety in the coastlands, and they will know that I am the LORD.

But Jesus Christ is in control, and will destroy the enemies of Israel, bringing judgment to all who is against Israel.

Ezekiel 39

⁷ “‘I will make known my holy name among my people Israel. I will no longer let my holy name be profaned, and the nations will know that I the LORD am the Holy One in Israel. ⁸ It is coming! It will surely take place, declares the Sovereign LORD. This is the day I have spoken of.

⁹ “‘Then those who live in the towns of Israel will go out and use the weapons for fuel and burn them up—the small and large shields, the bows and arrows, the war clubs and spears. For seven years they will use them for fuel. ¹⁰ They will not need to gather wood from the fields or cut it from the forests, because they will use the weapons for fuel. And they will plunder those who plundered them and loot those who looted them, declares the Sovereign LORD.

¹¹ “‘On that day I will give Gog a burial place in Israel, in the valley of those who travel east of the Sea. It will block the way of travelers, because Gog and all his hordes will be buried there. So it will be called the Valley of Hamon Gog.

Peres: Syria, Lebanon must choose between Iran and peace

President Shimon Peres said Thursday that in 1996 he agreed to meet with former Syrian President Hafez Assad to negotiate a peace deal between the two countries but the Syrian leader refused to set a date for the meeting.

Peres added that Syria and Lebanon must choose between Iranian ambitions and a peaceful Middle East.

Speaking during an official ceremony commemorating fallen pre-state leader Joseph Trumpeldor, Peres said that in 1996, “following the assassination of [former Prime Minister] Yitzhak Rabin, the Americans communicated a message from Assad senior, in which he expressed his desire to renew peace efforts.”

“I answered that I was willing to negotiate,” Peres said, reminding Assad of the fact that “Israel was months away from an election. The agreement would have to be reached before the elections.”

My Comment:

The Holy Word of God speaks of a false peace that will arrive with the Anti-Christ.

Daniel 9:27

He will confirm a covenant with many for one ‘seven.’ In the middle of the ‘seven’ he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And on a wing [of the temple] he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him.”

But it bears repeating, that it will be a false peace. Israel will not know true peace until Jesus Christ comes, and punishes those who are against Israel, and those who have not accepted Our King as their Savior.

Matthew 24:30-35

At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory. And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.

“Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door. I tell you the truth, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

Hamas wanted anti-ship missiles to sink Israeli battleships

Strategic weapons found on-board the Victoria included C-704 anti-ship missiles.

The C-704 shore-to-sea missile has a range of 35 km and its use in Gaza endangers Israeli cities in close proximity such as Ashkelon.

Iran is known to possess these type of missiles, which, along with identifying documents, gives substantial evidence of Iran’s involvement in the weapons smuggling attempt.

Washington demands end to building of Jewish homes

JERUSALEM – The U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv said Monday it was “deeply concerned” by Israel’s plans to build hundreds of new homes in the West Bank following a deadly attack on a settler family, calling Israeli settlements “illegitimate” and an obstacle to peacemaking.

While agreeing with the U.S. criticism, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas reached out to the Israeli public, granting a rare interview to state-run Israel Radio and denouncing the weekend attack in the settlement of Itamar as “despicable, immoral and inhuman.” Abbas rejected the Israeli charge that his government was indirectly to blame, and Israel’s prime minister said his denunciation was not enough.

While the country was still reeling from the gruesome attack, in which two parents and three young children were fatally stabbed as they slept, the Israeli government announced Sunday that it had approved the construction of between 400 and 500 new homes in major West Bank settlement blocs.

“They murder, we build,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday during a condolence call to the grieving family. Palestinian militants are presumed to have carried out the assault.

The plans for new construction infuriated Palestinians, and together with the attack, drove prospects for renewed peacemaking even further out of reach. A Netanyahu aide said the Israeli government informed the U.S. — which has been toiling with little success to break the negotiations deadlock — of the decision.

My Comment:

It does not matter what Israel chooses to do at this point. All moves they make will be met with resentment and accusations.

The nations surrounding Israel refuse to acknowledge or believe Jesus Christ is watching all, and coming soon.

Ezekiel 39:21-22

“I will display my glory among the nations, and all the nations will see the punishment I inflict and the hand I lay on them. From that day forward the people of Israel will know that I am the LORD their God.”
