Bible study # 67: Jeremiah’s words made Daniel repent in Babylon

How do we know the Bible is the truth? Just read about Daniel who found a promise of God in the book of Jeremiah.

Do not miss out that the Messiah is both the Lion and the Lamb.

Daniel was a refugee. But in the castle of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon,  the Jew from the tribe of Judah got his hand on the Prophetic scroll of the Prophet Jeremiah.

 Daniel 9:2
in the first year of his reign I, Daniel, understood by the books the number of the years specified by the word of the LORD through Jeremiah the prophet, that He would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.

Jeremiah was called to be a prophet just before the city of Jerusalem fell into the hands of the Babylonians. He was called to tell the King of the southern Kingdom of Judah. He was troubled by a priest, who also was a false prophet called Pashhur. This priest told the King what pleased his ears.

 Jeremiah 20: 1-6

Now Pashhur the son of Immer, the priest who was also chief governor in the house of the Lord, heard that Jeremiah prophesied these things.  Then Pashhur struck Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the high gate of Benjamin, which was by the house of the Lord.

And it happened on the next day that Pashhur brought Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then Jeremiah said to him:

“The Lord has not called your name Pashhur, but Magor-Missabib. For thus says the Lord: ‘Behold, I will make you a terror to yourself and to all your friends; and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and your eyes shall see it. I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall carry them captive to Babylon and slay them with the sword.

Moreover I will deliver all the wealth of this city, all its produce, and all its precious things; all the treasures of the kings of Judah I will give into the hand of their enemies, who will plunder them, seize them, and carry them to Babylon.

And you, Pashhur, and all who dwell in your house, shall go into captivity. You shall go to Babylon, and there you shall die, and be buried there, you and all your friends, to whom you have prophesied lies.’”

This priest Pashhur claimed to know “God”, but had corrupted him self. He told King Zedekiah what pleased the King. Even though the king did evil.

 2 Kings 24:17-19
Then the king of Babylon made Mattaniah, Jehoiachin’suncle, king in his place, and changed his name to Zedekiah.

Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.

He also did evil in the sight of the Lord, according to all that Jehoiakim had done.

When Jeremiah was called, God told Him to write down the messages He received. These Words were later read by Daniel.

 Jeremiah 36: 1-3

Now it came to pass in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, that this word came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying:  “Take a scroll of a book and write on it all the words that I have spoken to you against Israel, against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spoke to you, from the days of Josiah even to this day. It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the adversities which I purpose to bring upon them, that everyone may turn from his evil way, that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.”

Daniel knew that King Zedekiah had done evil. The King was also exiled to Babylon. Jeremiah escaped the captivity, but left His scroll behind. In the scroll Daniel found Gods warning to the King, which was completely overruled.  Daniel also found the promise from God, that the exile would last 70 years.

Daniel repented, also on behalf of the Jewish people.

  Daniel 9:8

“O Lord, to us belongs shame of face, to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, because we have sinned against You.

Please read His prayer all over again in Daniel chapter 9.

The Jews were all punished. All of them were exiled. God can bring down nations, even destroy His own temple.

 Jeremiah 25:10-12

Moreover I will take from them the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstones and the light of the lamp. And this whole land shall be a desolation and an astonishment, and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.

‘Then it will come to pass, when seventy years are completed, that I will punish the king of Babylon and that nation, the land of the Chaldeans, for their iniquity,’ says the Lord; ‘and I will make it a perpetual desolation.

The prophet Jeremiah had risked His own life in a bid to call the King to repent, or face stern punishment from God.

 Jeremiah 36:19-36

So Baruch answered them, “He proclaimed with his mouth all these words to me, and I wrote them with ink in the book.” Then the princes said to Baruch, “Go and hide, you and Jeremiah; and let no one know where you are.”

The King Destroys Jeremiah’s Scroll

And they went to the king, into the court; but they stored the scroll in the chamber of Elishama the scribe, and told all the words in the hearing of the king. So the king sent Jehudi to bring the scroll, and he took it from Elishama the scribe’s chamber. And Jehudi read it in the hearing of the king and in the hearing of all the princes who stood beside the king.

Now the king was sitting in the winter house in the ninth month, with a fire burning on the hearth before him. And it happened, when Jehudi had read three or four columns, that the king cut it with the scribe’s knife and cast it into the fire that was on the hearth, until all the scroll was consumed in the fire that was on the hearth.

Yet they were not afraid, nor did they tear their garments, the king nor any of his servants who heard all these words. Nevertheless Elnathan, Delaiah, and Gemariah implored the king not to burn the scroll; but he would not listen to them. And the king commanded Jerahmeel the king’s son, Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to seize Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet, but the Lord hid them.

(end of scripture).

The rejection of the Word of God by King Zedekiah had devastating consequences for the Jewish kingdom. God the Holy Spirit left the Temple in Jerusalem, and permitted it to be destroyed.

In a similar way, the Kingdoms of the World has no respect for the Word of God. Priests and false prophets of different kinds, tell lies to the leaders and the people. They have cancelled the judgment that is coming.

Let me give you all a prophecy:

Salvation is available for all who accept Jesus the Messiah as God and Master.

Those who delete the Word of God found in the Bible, shall not be sent in a temporarily exile for 70 years. They shall all face judgment. The penalty will be everlasting separation from God, and a horrific eternity in Hell.  There is no exit to be found. Only pain and agony without end.

We wise. Surrender to the Word of God today.

Bible studies # 36: The Jews were called to bring light to the Gentiles

Gentiles were saved before Jesus came in flesh. Thanks to the offerings and sacrifices for all nations is the Temple in Jerusalem.

A model of the second Temple in Jerusalem, destroyed in 70 A.D by the Romans.

I once met a Hippie who could not believe in the Message of Jesus being the savior of the World.

«What happened to the gentiles before Jesus was born. Did they all die and went to Hell?».

This made me puzzle in the scripture. When I met Him again I had the reply ready:

«The Jewish Messiah Jesus has always been around. He has always existed. He is the Law. Salvation did not first become available to the gentiles when He took flesh, born into the World by a Jewish virgin›
.

The Jewish people had already been chosen to become a Holy nation, and a kingdom of priests. To serve the Messiah.

Exodus 19:6

you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words you are to speak to the Israelites.”

In the Temples in Jerusalem, there was daily sacrifices for the sins of the whole World, and intercessions to the living God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

Isaiah 56:7

these I will bring to my holy mountain and give them joy in my house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and sacrifices will be accepted on my altar; for my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations.”

The revelation of the knowledge of God of the Hebrews, was not limited to the Jewish homeland. Through the Jewish King Solomon, the knowledge and wisdom of the living God was spread into all nations on Earth. The Bible explains that kings from all nations sent men to Jerusalem to get a share of Solomon`s wisdom.

1 Kings 4:34
Men of all nations came to listen to Solomon’s wisdom, sent by all the kings of the world, who had heard of his wisdom.

They did not talk about the weather.

1 Kings 10:24
The whole world sought audience with Solomon to hear the wisdom God had put in his heart.

The Jewish King surely explained to them about the sacrifices and intercession done in the Temple of the Lord. Global salvation became a matter if men from all nations wanted to believe in God of Israel or not. Other «gods» and idols were surely not permitted. Commandment number one and two was surely explained by Solomon to King sent men from all nations.

The Heavenly authority of the Jewish King could not be questioned, neither the approval of the atoning sacrifices and offerings on the alter of the Temple.

2 Chronicles 7:1
[ The Dedication of the Temple ] When Solomon finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the LORD filled the temple.

When Jesus the Messiah died on the cross, He became the only valid sacrifice and intercession tool available for mankind. For Jew and gentiles alike.

40 years after the Messiah had died on the cross and resurrected from the grave, the Temple sacrifices and intercession came to a brutal end. In 70 A.D the second Temple in Jerusalem was destroyed, never to be re-build.

The Jewish people were scattered all over the Globe, supposed to continue to serve the living God. Still, they were called to give the Earth the knowledge of the Messiah who had always been with them In Spirit, and who also had come in flesh.

Bible studies # 29: The Messiah is God that came down from Heaven to save us

Jesus of Nazareth claimed to be «I am», God Him self. The Jewish prophet Isaiah foretold that a child would be born, a Son, that would be called Mighty God.

Yeshua_in_the_Outer_Court

Can God come down from Heaven, and walk among us in the form of a man?

Of course He can. Who can stop Him?

Isaiah 9:6

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

The Jewish people in general have been struggling to make sense out of this verse. Because of Jew-hate in the name of «Christianity», they have not been willing to consider if Jesus of Nazareth could be the Messiah. But hardly any person of Jewish origin fits into the prophecies of the Messiah that was promised. Because the Messiah was supposed to make God of Israel the one and only God of all the Earth.

Isaiah 54: 5

For your Maker is your husband, the LORD Almighty is his name, the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer; he is called the God of all the earth.

Now, who is that Jew, the Son, who would be called God of all nations?

Jesus Him self claimed to be God, who had come to Earth. Today, He is the only Jew that is known by name in every nation on the face of the Earth. Over a billion people claim that He is God the Son. Is it possible, that they all are wrong

John 8:58
I tell you the truth, Jesus answered, before Abraham was born, I am.

John 10:30
I and the Father are one.

Mark 12:29
The most important one, answered Jesus, is this: Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.

Claiming to be God, and One with His Father, thats why the religious leaders of His days wanted to kill Him. They felt He was a threat to their authority over the people. The Messiah was betrayed, and handed over to be crucified by sinful men.

Please do not forget that the Messiah is not dead. He paid the perfect atonement for our sins, was crucified and rose from the grave after three days. He is alive. Give your life to Him.

John 3:16

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Bible lesson # 14: Timothy´s mother the ideal pastor for the Church

Who raised Timothy in faith? Why did God chose a married woman judge to rule Israel? Why do some Christian leaders hide the teaching talents of the daughters of Jesus?

A mans World, denying female pastorship
A mans World, denying female pastorship. Not even permitting them to get married.

What I am about to tell you, will steer up many Catholics and many claimed to be conservative Christians. I dont care. Let the Word of God be my only judge.

1. Timothy 2:12
«I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent.»

The out of context use of this verse of the Bible has made mainstream Christianity into a «kindergarten for men». But was that Pauls intention? I am not only doubtful, I am sure that Paul promoted women in scriptural leadership. And I will quote scriptures to plead my understanding of Paul.

First, lets see what Paul did not write:

«God do not permit». The whole start of this letter to Timothy is full of «I do». Other places Paul claims to speak on behalf of God or the Lord. Here he seems to speak about some kind of bad experiences, that has made him come to such a conclusion.

Lets remove the word «man» with the word «male children». And lets see what happens:

1. Timothy 2:12
I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over male children; she must be silent.

This can obviously not be the case, since all mothers are the first teachers of their own children.

Let replace the word «man» with «husband», and let see whats happen:

1. Timothy 2:12
I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over her husband; she must be silent.

Now, this will make sense. The Bible says that the man (husband) is the head of the House. But he has to love his wife, as Christ loved the Church. And since Jesus was willing to die for his Church, a man (husband) must become a slave of his wife. If that hurts your male ego, you have to go back to Jesus, repent and start obeying the Word of God.

There was a lot of disturbance in the Church of Corinth. This might have inspired Paul to put some restrictions on wife’s quarreling with their husbands. In special inside the Church, during fellowship.

Since the Bible can not contradict it self, we need to read the message of Paul in the right context.

1. Timothy 2:12
I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over children; she must be silent.

If he ment that a woman can never teach a male, than the mother of Timothy her self sinned against the Word of God. Because she raised Timothy in faith, and even made him understand the scriptures from his infancy.

2 Timothy 3:15
«and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus».

Thats a good Bible teachers job. A woman, and even a believing grandmother was the first born in Timothys family.

2 Timothy 1:5
«I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also».

If God did not enable and allowed these two women to tech Timothy, his Bible knowledge from infancy would have been an impossibility.

What about the father of Timothy?

Well, the Bible is almost silent about him.

Act 16:1
«He came to Derbe and then to Lystra, where a disciple named Timothy lived, whose mother was a Jewess and a believer, but whose father was a Greek».

Well, since the Bible explains that the mother and grandmother of Timothy had come to faith, I guess his Greek father had not. He would simply not be able to teach his son the meaning of the scripture.

Since the mother of Timothy could teach her son the scripture from infancy, I guess she would be permitted to teach his also in his youth? What about the mother of Timothy teaching her own husband, the day he came to faith? Since she with almost hundred per cent surely would be more learned in the Word of God than her husband?

The mother and grandmother of Timothy are only two of many examples of great female teachers in the Bible. I guess Mary the Mother of Jesus was His first teacher of the Jewish scriptures?

Many of those who are against woman giving pastoral care to a church, does not understand that the word pastor is of latin origin, not the original Biblical language. The Hebrew word for pastor is shepherd.

And there is a woman pastor even in the Old Testament:

Genesis 29:9
«While he was still talking with them, Rachel came with her father’s sheep, for she was a shepherdess».

The wife of Jacob, the father of the 12 tribes of Israel, was what all Biblical women is called to become: A female pastor. Because we are all priests in the new testament Royal Priesthood. The old exclusive male priesthood of Aroon has passed away in the new covenant.
