These are the words of President Obama. The presidents remarks comparing ISIL militants to medieval Christian crusaders ignited a firestorm of criticism on Thursday, ABC News wanted to know:
How accurate is that comparison?
“Lest we get on our high horse and think this is unique to some other place, remember that during the Crusades and the Inquisition, people committed terrible deeds in the name of Christ,” the president told an audience at the National Prayer Breakfast on Thursday.
Meanwhile, historians have been quick to discourage a link between ISIL and the Crusaders, who fought to reclaim holy lands in the Middle East nearly 900 years ago.
“I don’t think the president knows very much about the crusades,” Thomas Madden, a historian at the University of St. Louis, told ABC News.
“He seems to be casting them as an example of a distortion of Christianity and trying to compare that to what he sees as a distortion of Islam in the actions of ISIL,” Madden said. “The initial goal of the Crusades was to give back lands to Christians that been conquered, due to Muslim conquests.”
The Crusades, which began in 1095 with the call of Pope Urban II to recover Jerusalem from Muslim rule, were a series of wars that lasted nearly two centuries. Although no reliable estimate of casualties caused by Crusaders exists, the massacre of over 2,700 Muslim prisoners by Richard the Lionheart outside Acre during the Third Crusade has been well documented and is remembered in the Middle East to this day.
Thomas Asbridge, a historian at the University of London, said in a statement to ABC News,
“It is true to say, that by modern standards, atrocities were committed by crusaders, as they were by their Muslim opponents, it is however, far less certain that, by medieval standards, crusading violence could be categorized as distinctly extreme in all instances.”
Asbridge said he doesn’t have a problem with the president reminding the world that the Christian Church “advocated violence, and at times even encouraged its adherents to engage in warfare” but to suggest a causal link between ISIL and the distant medieval phenomenon of the Crusades is “grounded in the manipulation and misrepresentation of historical evidence.”

Obama is right when he claims that the Pope is responsible for horrible crimes. Particularly during the crusades and during the Inquisition.
The essential question would be:
Is the Pope a Christian by simply claiming to be one?
The answer is absolutely not.
How do we know?
Because the Bible tell us so. The Papacy has been behind murders of millions of people. First and foremost Bible obeying Christians, and Jews who refused to be converted to Catholicism. But also Muslims in their tens of thousands, during the crusades and the Papal slaughter of Muslims living in India in 1498 A.D onwards. Jesus the Messiah told us to bless and not harm anyone. Even to bless our enemies, and those who hate us. The Pope is just one of many misuser of the name of “Christ”. Through the ages the crimes of the Papacy have come to us unlimited. What bothers me the most is that they are calling Catholic’s Christians. They are not. They are members of a church that headed the crusades and killed true Christians. They took their property. This is not unlike Islam. Convert or die. The Knights of Columbus are a group within the Catholic Church. They are not the elite of the Church but are common everyday men who have pledged loyalty to the RCC. I think there is room in the scriptures that those just driving race cars, not really getting involved in religion are not surely going to hell. Mark 9:40 “for whoever is not against us is for us.”
Teaching that the bible says they do seems like a persecution in itself, perhaps twisting scripture, making the religion seem mean and intolerant. Hell is more often associated for those who persecuted Jesus and His church, and those who twist scripture.

Sorry to interject but this is not a private forum. I think the truth is that the words of Jesus are not so corrupted. They were put on a shelf and the teachers taught whatever their own minds came up with. That is the explanation from the makers of the movie Luther, and I have also seen it in my own church. I went to a bible study and eventually the preacher leading the bible study admitted that he didn’t know the bible very well.
Further evidence is, the scriptures were forbidden to be translated into common languages. If the scriptures themselves were corrupted there would have been no need to hide them with the Latin language.

Accurate enough to call him an ex catholic monk. It’s not much of a stretch to think he was capable of translating scriptures from Latin to German. Amazing that he had the stones to do it in a time when it could have cost him his life, which is what they claim he did.
You can still see today how Catholic Priests will sometimes speak in Latin to impress the audience, who have no clue what the priests are saying. The words of the Apostle Paul make sense to me. If you are a “…lapsed” Catholic, in the eyes of the Roman church, you are apostate and will go to hell without repentance and a return to regular worship in a Roman church. Had your knowledge of the Scripture been what it should be (and the Roman church is still today hiding Scriptural truth from its parishioners) you would understand that it is possible to KNOW that you are on the way to heaven. When you say, “…judge not least thee be judged…” you are leaving out the most important part of Jesus’ teaching on judging–that we will be judged by the same standard that we use to judge others. When the Bible is your standard, then you have nothing to fear from the judgment of God. We are CHARGED with judging truth and error (Jude 3) and sin in Christ’s Church—based on the word of God. (see 1 Cor. 5:11). We are also charged with WARNING those who have departed from Biblical truth. Not warning in the sense that WE will do anything to harm you (would that the Papacy had refrained from such) but that God Himself WILL, for denying the truth of Scripture (as the Roman church has done on many occasions) and betraying His Son in doing so.

1. Only Jesus can save you.

There is only one name under heaven by which men are saved, Jesus Christ. I am a Christian only. They use Latin for show, what other reason could there be to use a language nobody understands?
I don’t know of any church that holds their meeting like the Apostle Paul describes in 1 corinthinans 14:26 “What is the outcome then, brethren? When you assemble, each one has a psalm, has a teaching, has a revelation, has a tongue, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification.” A church like that might be interesting enough to join.
I have looked into the history of Martin Luther. There are varying stories of how he got the bible to us. The most recent one I have heard, by the makers of the film Luther ,seems to be the most realistic, it was sitting there on the shelf collecting dust. Catholic priests could be mired for eternity in catholic dogma, it seems totally possible it could have happened like that.

The Roman Catholic Church banned ordinary people from having a Bible. It was supposed to be the property of the priesthood. The Pope had ordained his “holy fathers” to understand what God had written, and explain the true meaning.
Very few ordinary citizens could read the ancient Italian language Latin, used by Caesar and the senate in Rome from 50 BC onwards. And if a man tried to translate the scriptures into common mans languages, he would be arrested and burnt at stake. Like Jan Huus. He was executed in 1415 A.D by papal butchers. And not to forget Bible translater John Wycliffe. He was burned in 1384 A.D by the Papists. Later on his bones were exhumed, decleared as heretics by the Inquisition tribunal, and burned.

Like I was saying. According to the Apostle Paul, the only good reason to use Latin is if the people in the church understand Latin. Otherwise he expressly states a person should remain silent, unless there is someone to interpret.

Genesis 12: 1-3 speaks about three promises. Two of them do not “belong to Christ”.

1. There is only one mediator between man and God, and that Is Jesus the Messiah. ONE, not TWO. Do you read and copy?
2. The mother of Jesus was a law obeying Jewish woman, not a lawless Roman Catholic diety.
