New legislation promises to ease requirements for descendants of Jews exiled in 1492 to reclaim their Spanish citizenship, but hurdles remain.
In recent months, rumors of Spanish intentions to grant dual nationality status for the descendants of Jews expelled in 1492 sent many Israelis to lawyers and the Latin American Olim Association to find out if they would be eligible for the coveted citizenship.
Some in that demographic say this “rights a historical wrong.” For others, Spain is a financial springboard to Europe. But it is likely that these potential Spaniards will have to wait awhile before they actualize their new-found right to their citizenship.
Over the weekend, 522 years after King Fernando II and Queen Isabella I signed an edict ordering the expulsion of Sephardic Jews, the government in Madrid approved a law permitting the descendants of those expelled to claim Spanish citizenship without conceding the citizenship of the country of their residency.
It can never be wrong to correct an historical wrong. But when it takes more than 500 years before a nation repent, we need to scrutinize the motives.
After 1948, it would be correct by nations like Portugal and Spain to repent in the form of unconditional support for the Jewish state of Israel. These two nations do not , but rather support the Islamic forces which want to demobilize the Zionist statehood.
The prophetic Word is crystal clear, that Yeshua the Messiah will regather all the Jews, and take them back home to their ancient homeland:
‘“For I will take you out of the nations; I will gather you from all the countries and bring you back into your own land.
To tempt the Sephardic Jews to leave Israel, or to not make Aliyah, is the opposite of repentance. It is yet another bid to weaken the state of Israel.
Let it be underlined, that both Spain And Portugal has a long way to go, before true repentance is make. There has been never been issued an apology for the crimes committed against the Jews in Goa in India. More than 100 Jews were burnt at stake, and all Jewish synagogues destroyed. The Jews were also robbed of their properties, and the Jewish settlement disappeared.
When will the Government of Portugal repent for these crimes against humanity?
When will there be built a Museum in Goa, where the correct records of the Goa Inquisition will be exposed in a bid to attract Heritage Tourism?
The Portuguese also committed horrible crimes against people of non-Jewish faith. Like the Hindus and Muslims of Goa.
