In AP interview, Barkat says capital can only function as ‘united city which treats all residents and visitors honestly and equally’.

In a wide-ranging interview with The Associated Press, Nir Barkat said his administration has treated the city’s Arab residents honestly and equally.
Jerusalem’s mayor said Tuesday that any partition of the city as part of a future peace agreement will not work, insisting only a united city could function and thrive.
Israeli and Palestinian negotiators recently resumed peace negotiations after a five-year lull. The Palestinians demand the eastern sector of the city as their future capital and consider any Israeli construction there illegal settlements that hinder the prospect of peace.
Barkat said thoughts of dividing the city should be off the table.
“It will never function, it will never work. It is a bad deal,” the former high-tech entrepreneur told The Associated Press. “Doing a bad deal is worse than no deal.”

My comment:
First:
Jerusalem is mentioned 801 in my NIV Bible. And 767 in the King James version.
Second:
In the Koran, Jerusalem is not mentioned, not even once. And before 620 A.D there was not a single Muslim in the World.
Why should the Jews surrender East Jerusalem, to the forces of Islam?
The Jews built Jerusalem. There is 3.000 years of Jewish heritage connection of this city, and the Bible explains that the Jews are eternally called to be caretaker of this city.
Third:
When the Islamic Kingdom of Jordan occupied East Jerusalem from 1948 to 1967, the Jews were not only expelled from this part of the city. All the synagogues were burnt and destroyed.
Why do you want this carnage to be repeated, and East Jerusalem turned into a copy of Damascus?
Those who work for the division of Jerusalem are evil doers.
May Jesus the Messiah have mercy on their souls.

Dear Ivar,
I looked into the origin of Jerusalem, as I felt urged, and cannot quite agree, that it was built by Jews. That, of course, does not mean it doesn’t belong to them. The Word clearly states that Jerusalem was conquered by Joshua, and also king of Jerusalem Adoni-Zedek. It belonged to jebusites or amorites (not clear) at that time. What is even more fascinating, Jerusalem is referred to as Salem. King of Salem, Melchizedek, the priest of the Most High blessed Abram. The Jewish tradition says that Salem was built by Abraham’s forefathers Shem and Peleg. But Melchizedek (King of righteousness), the king of Salem (King of Peace), the priest of the Most High blessed Abram and thus Isaac and Jacob (Israel). The history goes far beyond the entering of Israel it the Promised Land and it has everlasting blessing from Christ himself.

You are right.
There was a pagan city there, before the city became Jerusalem, the city of David. The Jebusites were idol worshipers and pagans, and occupied the site were the Jews were going to build a Temple to God of Israel.
2 Samuel 5:6
[ David conquers Jerusalem ] The king and his men marched to Jerusalem to attack the Jebusites, who lived there. The Jebusites said to David, ‘You will not get in here; even the blind and the lame can ward you off.’ They thought, ‘David cannot get in here.’
1 Kings 11:13
Yet I will not tear the whole kingdom from him, but will give him one tribe for the sake of David my servant and for the sake of Jerusalem, which I have chosen.’
In regards to “Salem” we presume it is pre-historic Jerusalem. But we do not know for sure.
Thanks for correcting me.
Reblogged this on Oyia Brown.
‘When the Islamic Kingdom of Jordan occupied East Jerusalem from 1948 to 1867…’ – did you not mean 1967?
