Jerusalem remains the main stumbling block

Israel Minister of Finance Yair Lapid blasts 1200 new settlement housing tenders as “double mistake”.

Benjamin Netanyahu and Yair Lapid have little in common in regards to the future of Zionism.
Benjamin Netanyahu and Yair Lapid have little in common in regards to how they want to secure the future of Zionism.

In contrast Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat welcomes the move.

Finance Minister Yair Lapid lashed out Sunday at the decision to build more than one thousand new homes in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, calling it “a double mistake.”

Lapid’s comments came on the heels of similar condemnation by Meretz leader, Zahava Gal-On, who accused the government of trying to stymie the nascent peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians.

“Announcing the decision to market 1,200 housing units in east Jerusalem and in the larger settlement blocs at this time is a double mistake,” Lapid said in a statement.

“Solutions for the problem of housing should be founded in the areas of need,” he wrote. “Additionally, the use of resources meant to provide housing for the middle class to needlessly defy the Americans will impede the peace process.”

Gal-On branded decision “a roadside bomb the government has placed to eliminate the peace negotiations before they even begin.”

She added that there would never be a peace agreement until Israel adheres to the 1967 lines and a territorial exchange.

Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat, however, who welcomed the move to built 800 new housing units in the Jerusalem area.

“New construction in Jerusalem is essential to the development and strengthening of the city and for allowing young people to live and buy apartments,” Barkat said, “I am glad that the government of Israel sees us eye to eye on this important need.”

He also said that there is a need to continue to develop more housing as well as to invest in “continued economic, cultural and educational development.”

My comment:

Jerusalem is surely a stumbling block for both Jews and gentiles.

 Zechariah 12:3

On that day, when all the nations of the earth are gathered against her, I will make Jerusalem an immovable rock for all the nations. All who try to move it will injure themselves.

The Jewish society is divided into two almost equal sized camps. One liberal and mainly secular camp, that is ready to divide Jerusalem for the “sake of peace”. And one Zionist, lead by leaders in the national religious camp, who say a United Jerusalem can only be the capital of the state of Israel.

The capital of Israel should not be divided. Who wants to build a new Berlin wall?

To be frank, the city of Jerusalem belongs to God of israel. He gave the Jews the task of being good caretakers of His city.  If they try to give away God’s property, they will face trouble, and eventually judgment. The Jews have lived more years in exile, than they have lived in the city as good caretakers.  Still God of Israel has promised to be their God eternally.

Support the Jewish peoples right to have Jerusalem as their capital. Resist all rebellious forces, that wants to divide the city of David.

May Jesus the Messiah bless all who obey. Amen.

  1. It’s getting so, (well not ‘getting’ it is) when reading and hearing the news it’s like turning a page in the Bible…(smile)..either it’s telling about ‘what The Lord is doing, or what Satan is doing’…”or just how blind the blind are leading the blind into a pit ….one day it’s the Old Testament, foretelling what ‘will be (is happening now) in the latter days’ another day it’s the New Testament, telling what (when you see these things happen) know the end is nigh…over and over and over the kings of the World pour out their vengeance against on or at Israel, or talk about blatantly stealing the land of Israel, over and over the kings of the World cry crocodile tears over the poor while they themselves sell their own people into slavery as prostitutes to the highest bidder..these too are told in the Word…yeah it’s The Word coming alive on a daily basis…the wicked are bolder, the ones in Christ are stronger who stay in His Word!
