Rivlin: Referendum to prevent civil war in Israel

A referendum could help dampen the flames, prevent a civil war and increase the people’s commitment to majority rule for generations to come.

MK Reuven Rivlin and Benjamin Netanyahu might have to obey the popular winds of change.
MK Reuven Rivlin and Benjamin Netanyahu might have to obey the popular winds of change. The rule of the final Anti-Christ must come.

This is the view of MK Reuven Rivlin shared in Israel Hoyom.  Rivlin is a former speaker in the Knesset.  Under are parts of what Rivlin writes:

The idea of a national referendum, which has gained much attention recently due to the renewal of the diplomatic process with the Palestinians, clashes with the principles of Israel’s parliamentary system of democracy.

In our parliamentary democracy, the ultimate referendum is held once every four years in the form of Knesset elections. During the time period between elections, the Knesset is the exclusive representative of sovereignty and can only be dissolved by procedures established by law.

Since the Oslo Accords, there have been calls in Israel for referendums on crucial issues with far-reaching implications, but as of yet no referendum has been agreed upon.

In the Basic Law, it should say that any interim or permanent agreement with the Palestinians, whether it includes the ceding of sovereignty or the exchange of territories, must be brought as a whole to the Israeli public. Israelis will be asked only one question — are you for or against the agreement that was approved by the Knesset?

 Exodus 15:3

The Lord is a warrior; the Lord is his name.

Despite my reservations about the use of referendums in a parliamentary democracy, I believe it is legitimate, as long as the referendums are held on issues that deeply divide Israeli society and need to be resolved once and for all. There are large religious and ideological chasms between different groups in Israeli society and a referendum could help dampen the flames, prevent a civil war and increase the people’s commitment to majority rule for generations to come.

My comment:

Civil war is a serious matter. If the so-called “Oslo peace process” results in the Jewish people starts to act like Muslims, the irony of the situation has become complete.  The ongoing diplomatic tussle looks more and more like a war process.

For the last and final anti-Christ, a referendum is just perfect.  The peace maker” will perform mighty miracles and wonders, and will deceive even the elect, if possible.

    2 Thessalonians 2: 8-10

And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the splendor of his coming. The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with how Satan works. He will use all sorts of displays of power through signs and wonders that serve the lie,  and all the ways that wickedness deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.

There will never be true peace based on the 1949 cease fire lines. These cold war lines did not bring peace in 1952, 1973 and 1967, but more Arab hostility and bids to destroy Israel. And it will not bring peace today.  Regardless if a majority of the Israelis believe so, and vote yes to depart with the land the Messiah gave them back in 1948.

  1. I share your frustration. But the thieves will not get what they have come to steal. Ultimately a Jew will rule the world from Jerusalem.
    Amen. Return soon Lord Jesus.
