Bible studies # 27: God tests us by letting Satan perform sign and wonders

Both the true Messiah and the anti-Messiah will perform miracles. True faith in Jesus is accepting Him as the only way to Heaven, and doing the will of our Father.

Even a miracle can be a test. God wants us to believe in His Words.

People who do not believe in sign and miracles, should read the book of Deuteronomy.

Deuteronomy 13: 1-4

If a prophet, or one who foretells by dreams, appears among you and announces to you a miraculous sign or wonder, and if the sign or wonder of which he has spoken takes place, and he says, “Let us follow other gods” (gods you have not known) “and let us worship them,” you must not listen to the words of that prophet or dreamer. The LORD your God is testing you to find out whether you love him with all your heart and with all your soul. It is the LORD your God you must follow, and him you must revere. Keep his commands and obey him; serve him and hold fast to him.

God allows us to experience miracles for many reasons:

A: God wants to test our motivation:

1. To test if we demands a miracle to believe in him.
2. To see if we take credit for the miracle that has occurred.
3. To see if we start collecting money for the miracles performed.
4. To see if the miracle performed, lead us to follow other Gods.

B: Our God is a God of great miracles:

Psalm 77:14

You are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples.

C: That God performs miracles, is no guarantee that people will believe in Him

Psalm 106:7
When our fathers were in Egypt, they gave no thought to your miracles; they did not remember your many kindnesses, and they rebelled by the sea, the Red Sea.

D: That miracles has occurred, is no guaranty that Jesus will acknowledge the workers of miracles:

Matthew: 7:21-23

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

E: That Jesus performed miracles, was no guaranty that people repented from their sins:

Matthew 11:20
[ Woe on Unrepentant Cities ] Then Jesus began to denounce the cities in which most of his miracles had been performed, because they did not repent.

Luke 10:13
“Woe to you, Korazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.

F: Jesus could not perform many miracles, where people did not have faith in Him:

Matthew 13:58
And he did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith.

Mark 6:5
He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them.

G: God permits false «Jesus´es» and prophets to perform miracles:

Matthew 24:24

For false Christ’s and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect—if that were possible.

H: Jesus did not tell his disciples to stop workers of miracles:

Mark 9:39
Do not stop him,” Jesus said. “No one who does a miracle in my name can in the next moment say anything bad about me.

I: Jesus performed miracles to make stubborn people believe in God the Father:

John 14:11
Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the miracles themselves.

Acts 2:22
“Men of Israel, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know.

J: Simon saw many miracles, and wanted to buy the Miracles powers with money:

Acts 8:13
Simon himself believed and was baptized. And he followed Philip everywhere, astonished by the great signs and miracles he saw.

K: Paul was a worker of miracles:

Acts 19:11
God did extraordinary miracles through Paul,

2 Corinthians 12:12
The things that mark an apostle—signs, wonders and miracles—were done among you with great perseverance.

L: One gift of the Holy Spirit, is to be a miracle worker:

1 Corinthians 12:28
And in the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, also those having gifts of healing, those able to help others, those with gifts of administration, and those speaking in different kinds of tongues.

M: In the end times, the disciples of Satan will have the power to perform miracles:

2 Thessalonians 2:9
The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders.

Since there are both true and false miracles in our days. How can we discern the difference between miracles?

Some guidelines:

True Miracles:

1. Will give Jesus Christ all the honor and glory.
2. The performer, will not take any credit for performing miracles.
3. There will be no demand for money from the miracles worker.
4. The miracle worker will preach the need for repentance, to avoid eternal judgment. (Healing without repentance, has no value).
5. The miracles will lead people to lasting repentance.
6. The worker of miracles will set people free, to follow Jesus Christ.
7. People will not demand a miracles to believe in the message from Jesus Christ. The miracle often surface to confirm the present direction, or to show the new direction in the middle of a cross road.

Satan will like to perform a miracle in the name of «Jesus» when:

1. When some kind of strange and unknown «Jesus» is preached.
2. There is no preaching about repentance, u-turns.
3. The miracle worker will take some credit.
4. The miracle worker will collect money to perform.
5. The miracle will not have a lasting effect (Healing, etc.)
6. The miracle worker will attach his audience to follow his ministry.
7. People will demand a miracles, to believe that Jesus Christ exist . (A unfaithful and wicked generation).

  1. Love your post!! It is really very beautiful. You very well explains about the miracles of God.God always test us whether we need any miracles to believe in Him or whether we need any proof about the existence of Him.I think we need not any miracles from Him because we believe in Him we believe that He is exist between us.We just need to love Him from pure Heart and soul.

  2. Love this…in the past in my Catholic years, reported & approved miracles kept you in bondage to RCC. They were used as evidence that the Catholic church was the one & only true church.

    1. Dear Kay.

Shalom, and thanks for this comment.

In my young Christian life, I have learned the main tactics of Satan. He has three major ways to stop people following Jesus.

      1. The fear tactic:

Most people do not proclaim the gospel, because the fear of men. The are afraid they will lose their earthly fame and whatever. All the message that comes in your head, convincing you to keep mum, is from Satan and all his dark angles.

Remember: People will be offended by your messages til they understand that you are coming with Good News. This will be their moment of salvation.

      2. Temptations:

Many Christians accepts what Satan has to offer them. Jesus was offered all the riches in the Word. If you can overcome the fear factor, you will surly be tempted. All kind of fleshy desires will be branded as acceptable.

      3. Deception.

If Satan can not get you by fear nor temptation, he will try to get you by deception. There is nothing more deceptive than a false spirit presented as “holy”, or a miracle presented as a prof that some strange teaching was from “Jesus”.

      What is the solution?

Know the Word of God, and obey. If you obey the Bible, you will be able to discern. Be in fellowship with other Christians, who focus on the gifts of the Spirit. Now Satan will not be able to take you for a ride.

    1. 2 Timothy 3: 13-15,”But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”

  3. This is an excellent article nothing is better than reading and study of the Holy Bible. Amazing information in it. Thank YOU for your site. Love reading the comment section.

  4. A wonderful post. Healing or miracle without repentance has no value. Jesus Christ admonished us to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto us. “These signs shall follow them that believe: in my name they shall cast out demons…”Mark 16:17. In the gospel according to St. Luke 10:19 It was recorded that all authority has been given to us to trample upon serpent & scorpion…& nothing shall by any means hurt us. Then in verse 20,He cautions that we should not rejoice that these bow to & obey us, rather we should rejoice that our names are written in the book of heaven!

  5. Signs and wonders will follow those who believe and not the other way around, how many churches hold miracle healing nights and masses turn up and nothing happens except a few alleged bad backs and sore thumbs are allegedly healed, Benny Hinn whom many Christians believe is an annointed man of God has seen NO missing limbs restored, No dead back to life, only the same kind of alleged miracles mentioned earlier in my comment. Yet in Africa and Asia for example unknown poor humble men and women of God whom preach the pure gospel are seeing the dead raised, food multiplied and limbs restored. In fact one westerner I know of (Heidi Baker) is seeing it too. Yet these poor ministers of the Gospel are happy to live in a shack, to wash in a stream, they don;t need rolex watches and big cars and planes, they will walk for 7 days to get to a meeting, Jesus said we will do the things He is doing, seems we in the west are not but our brethren in the east are.

    1. I know of this Pastor who has preached numerous times abroad, particularly poor countries. He encountered a man who was blind all his life, and who’s skin had actually grown over his eyes.

Santos (the pastor’s name) asked the man, “do you believe in Jesus? Do you believe he can heal you tonight?”

The man responded, “If you believe I believe.”

Jesus Christ healed the man, and his skin literally melted from his eyes. The man was able to open them for the first time in his life.

When Miracles are done in the NAME OF JESUS CHRIST, all things are possible.

Just another thing Our awesome Christ has done.

  6. Yes, it is true, that God allows us to be tested.
Both whith miracles and healings – but also, when He doesn’t heal.

Through sickness, suffering, and loneliness, God can both test us, but also meet whith us. In the process He peels away much of the unnecessary and unhelpful things in our lives.
Sickness and pain can be our ‘desert wandering’, where we learn through suffering how to be still and trust in Him – even when we don’t see.

Just like a goldsmith that purifies the gold until He sees His own reflection in it – so He wishes to test, melt, purify and remold us, until we are fit for His kingdom.
This process is all His work, to his glory.

I’d rater be melted, tested, and purified now, in this life, than to have to stand before Him one day – in shame.

And IF I lift my head on that day, it will not be because I have any pride in myself, or in anyting I have accomplished.
It will be in joy, and unmerited favour, that I will lift my eyes to thank Him – for both the trials, the testing, and the mercy that flows through it all…

  7. I don’t understand the premise of God and Satan. Presumably, Satan lives in and causes the eternal torture of hell. Hell is also the place of God’s punishment. This is what I see God saying:
“Worship me … so that I can save you from what I am going to do to you if you don’t worship me.”

The idea and concept of hell is so unjust, it does not make sense that the God most christians talk about would actually create such a place (though, the God portrayed by the Old Testament would by all means create a hell)

    1. Romans 2:5-8
But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God’s wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed. God “will repay each person according to what they have done.” To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life. But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger.

      1. The world is not binary in that respect though. I, and many other non-believers, do good (volunteer, donate money, give random gifts, random acts of kindness, etc.) and don’t follow evil. We are altruistic because of our love of humans and our love of the earth.

        Religions don’t own goodness…

      2. Intelligent Infidel,

Those things you do will not get you into heaven. I understand that you do not understand that concept, but have you ever sat down to read the Word of God? Have you ever prayed to Jesus?
Whether you believe in him or not, he is the only way. And Christ offers us salvation only through him.

Satan prefers you not believing, BUT Jesus does come soon, and many will realize too late, that Jesus is the only way.
