Hamas leader Muhammad Zahar has become Citizen of Egypt. Just like 50.000 other Gazan’s.
Some 50,000 Palestinians, most of them from Gaza, have been granted Egyptian citizenship over the past few months, an Egyptian security official told the newspaper El-Watan on Thursday.
The official said that the Egyptian Interior Ministry had been instructed to give citizenship to all Palestinians who were born to Egyptian mothers.
The official said Cairo was studying the requests of an additional 35,000 Palestinians to receive Egyptian citizenship and predicted that by 2013 the number of Palestinians with Egyptian citizenship would reach 100,000.
Mahmoud Zahar, a senior Hamas leader in Gaza, disclosed earlier this year that he, too, had become an Egyptian national because his mother was Egyptian.

I feel this is wonderful news.
Since the Arabs in Gaza are Arabs, why not give them citizenship in an Arab nation?
Before 1917, the people of Gaza never demanded independence. And they did not call them selves “Palestinians”. They were ruled by the Ottoman Turks, who called this province “Southern Syria”. The Turks were crystal clear that the “Syrians” in this area were ethically Arabs. Not Jews. These “Syrians” were not the owners of caretakers of the ruins of Jerusalem.
Arabs have always tried to stop Jews from rebuilding Jerusalem. Even 500 years B.C. So the opposition from Arab member of the Hamas, is nothing new under the sun.
But when Sanballat the Horonite, Tobiah the Ammonite official and Geshem the Arab heard about it, they mocked and ridiculed us. “What is this you are doing?” they asked. “Are you rebelling against the king?”
I answered them by saying, “The God of heaven will give us success. We his servants will start rebuilding, but as for you, you have no share in Jerusalem or any claim or historic right to it.”
In 1948, it was the Egyptian army who attacked Gaza and made the Gazan’s “Egyptians”. Before 1517 this area had belonged to Egypt, and the Egyptian claim to Gaza had some cultural and historical merits.
The state of Israel was not very keen on holding on to Gaza. It came under Jewish control by default during the 1967 war. Israel has always been interested in Egypt taking responsibility for Gaza not becoming a terrorist state. Today the people of Gaza are victims of Islamic terror and despotism of its worst kind.
If all the people in Gaza could be given Egyptian citizenship, it would simply be the best. So we once and for all would be able to bury the absurd idea of a hybrid “Palestinian state”.
