The Message Bible pointing to One World Religion

The Message “Bible” is gaining popularity in leaps and bounds, deceiving readers and pointing them towards the new age and a one world religion.

The author of the Message Bible Eugene Peterson spreads falsehood supported by many.

The Message is being read across the world, a paraphrase of scripture in ‘contemporary’ language. This book uses vulgar language in attempts to be “hip” and in tune with the language of our culture.

I’m sorry to say, I have heard this  book quoted by Dr. David Jeremiah several times and have since stopped listening to his sermons.

Dr. Jeremiah is in good company as the following well known Christians also endorse the Message. The list of the endorsers might surprise many. The list is published below. NavPress used their names in the promotion of this book:

Here are some quotes from well known Christians that praise the Message bible:

“We should thank the Lord for the ministry Eugene Peterson has performed in The Message. He has given the church an opportunity to read the Bible afresh”

The Message is exegetically sensitive yet speaks in the language of today—with the special flair for English style that has come to mark Peterson’s work.” —GORDON D. FEE, author of How to Read the Bible for All It’s Worth and professor of New Testament, Regent College

“I thank God for The Message. In it Eugene Peterson gives a fresh and authentic voice to the Scripture. I recommend it highly.” —RICHARD J. FOSTER, author of Celebration of Discipline

“Eugene Peterson’s language makes the Bible exciting and strong, sweet, sharp, persuasive, painful, personal, contemporary, kind, and dramatic—and available to every reader of this age.”
WALTER WANGERIN, JR., author of The Book of the Dun Cow and Mourning Into Dancing

“At last, a translation of tone. I read not only the words, but I hear a voice behind them speaking—as, in fact, all these documents were originally experienced. Peterson’s translation transforms the eye into an ear, opening the door of the New Testament wider than perhaps it has ever been opened.” —MICHAEL CARD, singer, songwriter, and author of Immanuel: Reflections on the Life of Christ

“WOW! What a treasure The Message is. I am going to carry it with me. This is a treasure that I will want to use wherever I am.” —JONI EARCKSON TADA, author

Rick Warren endorses the Message and uses it in “The Purpose Driven Life” when quoting scripture. And why shouldn’t he? He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and hosted Tony Blair at his church to discuss world peace in globalized economy.  The Message points towards a global spirituality

The Message uses “hip” language to make it easier to read. What it does is profane the sanctity of His Word and conforms it to the world, attempting to make the Bible worldly and in sync with the times.

Let’s look at some examples:

Matthew 6:9-43

After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen

And forgive us our debts,   as we also have forgiven our debtors

And lead us not into temptation,  but deliver us from the evil one.

Now let’s look at the same verses in the Message:

Our Father in heaven,
   Reveal who you are.
   Set the world right;
Do what’s best— as above, so below.
Keep us alive with three square meals.
Keep us forgiven with you and forgiving others.
Keep us safe from ourselves and the Devil.
   You’re in charge!
You can do anything you want!
   You’re ablaze in beauty!
      Yes. Yes. Yes.

This paraphrase of scripture subtly deceives its readers.

What is alarming about this passage is “as above, so below” is deep in occult practice and philosophy.

This language is used in black magic and it’s theory practiced by Aleister Crowley, the author of the satanic bible.

In the next passage, we will see politically correct environmentalism and the deletion of sins.

1 Corinthians 9: 6-11

Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men  nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

The Message (same verse)

Don’t you realize that this is not the way to live? Unjust people who don’t care about God will not be joining in his kingdom.

Those who use and abuse each other, use and abuse sex, use and abuse the earth and everything in it, don’t qualify as citizens in God’s kingdom.

A number of you know from experience what I’m talking about, for not so long ago you were on that list. Since then, you’ve been cleaned up and given a fresh start by Jesus, our Master, our Messiah, and by our God present in us, the Spirit.

(end of Message bible quote)

Where does it say anything in scripture about “abusing the earth” in Corinthians?

It’s not there.

This has been added to the scripture to be politically correct and endorse the global warming agenda. Idolatry and homosexuality are clearly deleted from these verses.

The Message uses vulgar language that is unnecessary:

Ezekiel 16:24-27 (from the Message)

At every major intersection you built your bold brothels and exposed your sluttish sex, spreading your legs for everyone who passed by.  “‘And then you went international with your whoring.  You fornicated with the Egyptians, seeking them out in their sex orgies. The more promiscuous you became, the angrier I got. Finally, I intervened, reduced your borders and turned you over to the rapacity of your enemies. Even the Philistine women – can you believe it? – were shocked at your sluttish life.

The NIV version is more dignified. We get the picture without having to be vulgar:

you built a mound for yourself and made a lofty shrine in every public square. At the head of every street you built your lofty shrines and degraded your beauty, offering your body with increasing promiscuity to anyone who passed by.You engaged in prostitution with the Egyptians, your lustful neighbors, and provoked me to anger with your increasing promiscuity.

The Message Bible is subtle in it’s deception leaving out homosexual sin in some passages, promoting the global warming agenda in others. New age concepts are abound in this book as well as references to mysticism and esoteric language.

What better way to convince the world that ‘god’ wants world government and a world religion for ‘peace’?

This bible subtly deceives and as well known Christian teachers embrace and endorse this book, the more read it without question or discernment.

Just a few days ago a new humanitarian bible was released. It was written by an atheist and it deletes God and adds evolution and a spew of lies.

I do believe the Word of God will be viciously attacked as the antichrist prepares to take center stage. One day it is possible that only bibles that are politically correct will be able to be printed and sold.

Thank Jesus you are able to possess a bible and cherish it’s words in your heart.

In the beginning, sin began by questioning the Word. As so it will be in these last days. For the enemy has little time.

Genesis 3:1

Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”

Revelation 22:18

I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book.

  1. Man o man, Sue – what a posting!
I thank you for it! I have many e-friends (on facebook, etc) that are constantly quoting this translation and I am always amazed at how “confused” they are in some of their beliefs. I have never read and do not own this translation. So dangerous! I am so saddened in heart for people who are being led down that road, but another sign of the times……

  2. Dear Segulah,

Thank you for your comment. Yes, the Message is widely accepted as ‘scripture.’ With new atheist/gay bibles coming out, we can see the attack will be on Scripture. The enemy wants truth blotted out and distorted, so people will believe doctrines of demons.
    God bless!

  3. May we always remember the word of GOD- This scripture from the time I got saved has always stand out- Ephesians 6;10-17 “PUT ON THE ARMOUR OF GOD”
His word- read and read it over and over people. What a moment it will be when we all bow and confess JESUS CHRIST is LORD!!!
And to all who dont know JESUS pray and pray seek HIM… HE knows how many hairs are on our head and he cares for every bird that passes. HE hears us and knows are every thought and word.
May GOD continue to bless this website.

  4. Dear Prudent,

You’ve blessed me with your comments today.

Yes, scripture is being attacked. But we know the Lord’s word will NEVER pass away. Hallelujah.
I’m studying Ephesains 6:10:17 right now in Bible study. Praise God for your salvation. May His name forever be praised.

  5. What a abrogation to the Lord this is Satanic and those who endorse this Message are totally deceived and need to repent for ignorance and stupidity Paul in Corinthinians talked about those weak in the faith John 8.32 seek ye the truth that the truth shall set you free many who support this just bought a ticket to hell.

    1. Dear Randy.

Shalom, and thanks for this comment.

I am surprised by some of the names of the endorsement list. Other names do not surprise me at all.

The NTM team will continue to expose fake and falsehood within claimed to be Christianity. That people do not want to believe in Jesus, will be their choice. Unfortunately many of them have looked at claimed to be “Christians”, and turned away from Jesus. We who claim to know Him bears a huge responsibility in what we say about Him, and what we do in His name.

      1. Yes—every single person on that list is confused, to say the least. But then, what would you expect of those who frequently
“make merchandise of God’s people”? Their handlers specialize in extracting money out of the Christian merchandise
establishment. One of the requirements is that they support the Christian money-making regime with their endorsements of other merchandise.

I saw this today and I thought you all would appreciate it as a contrast to the Message debacle (which has, by the way, made Eugene Peterson a very wealthy man):

“Last night…I asked John McTernan if there are any nationally known Bible teachers/pastors that he ‘follows.’ He said no. I wanted to weep. They are all writing narcissistic bestselling clap-trap.

[In contrast] My favorite pastor came from Iowa with his new bride just before World War II and they established a country church on a rocky hillside and there they ministered for 50 years. He simply preached the Word from behind a simple pulpit to a few families. His wife played the organ and taught VBS and Sunday school. They ate food from their garden and observed the Sabbath and lived very simply. When my mother brought them their supper one night, she left and said, ‘I’ll see you tomorrow.’

[The pastor] said, ‘I hope not.’

He passed first and his wife spent a few years in a retirement home and at 95, almost totally blind and deaf, she memorized the entire book of Revelation.

They never built a mega-church or even heard of the concept. They wore simple clothes and didn’t own a TV. He never wrote a book that got him on big-time Christian television.

America’s most famous pastors today would think him a loser.
What a vile, sick, repulsive world we live in.”

But we know that when we see widespread apostasy that the Lord’s return is very near and we lift out heads to watch for Him. Amen?

  6. Thank you for letting me be a part of this …I am also surprised at some of the names ..So much to reply yet…the best thing that comes to my heart foremost is…Be still and know that I am GOD! …These days every day is clearer and clearer of the devastation Jesus was talking about..There will be wailing and nashing of teeth. So all the more for us to pray, pray, pray and pray some more not only for the lost, deceived but also that we too will not harden our hearts & to stand fast to God’s Truth and Mercy! Truly ‘they will hurt you and believe they are doing God a service!!! Come quickly Lord Jesus!

  7. Warren Smith writes about this in his book “A «Wonderful» Deception.” Warren, with his New Age “christianity,” is showing the way to a deceptive belief. It is satanic. And with help from Tony Blair they are building an antichrist society.

Keep warning about this dear friend!

  8. Andreas Frost your remark of…”And with help from Tony Blair they are building an antichrist society.”
They don’t realize that they are ‘doing and a part of Scripture being fulfilled’ clear brother Jude speaks of these in the latter days!

  9. An after thought ..Tony Blair is not the only one doing this, many dignitaries and church leaders as well as TV, Radio and any other form of communication to reach a mass amount world wide. We are witnessing the dividing line and turning point of what has been foretold of these days by the Prophets of Old, as well as our Lord Jesus and his Apostles. An Awesome and sobering thought indeed! And even these will bow the knee to The Lord Jesus Christ and confess HE IS LORD!

  10. I started combating this blasphemous work a couple of years back. i am amazed at the lack of discerment by pastors and professing Christians. I am reminded of Luke 18:8 “I tell you that He will bring about justice for them quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?”

It is becoming harder to find true believers every passing day.

  11. I m not surprise that the list is long but I m surprise some well known pastors is in the list . In the end , the only book we can read is King James Bible . Wow , unbelievably deceptive coming to the end .
May God bless us all .

    1. Dear Nicolas chong

It is true that the King James Bible is a good translation. But very frankly, Jesus did not communicate in English. 2.000 years ago the English language had not yet been invented by man.

      1. I most often use the NLT when I am witnessing to non-Biblical folk, because of its plain, easy to understand narrative.

I would use the NASB for precision in studying a particular line or passage (and, from there, I will often delve into the orignal Greek as well). I have a Greek Cypriot friend and
she reads the New Testament in the original Greek. She says that the NASB reads the most like the original Greek.

Finally, I like the ESV for memorizing and general use. It lends itself to memorizing (like the King James) without the clumsiness of the King James. If I could only have one translation, I would make it the ESV.

      2. Dear Ellen.

        You wrote:

I most often use the NLT when I am witnessing to non-Biblical folk, because of its plain, easy to understand narrative.

        My comment:

I use the NIV for the same purpose. Even though I know of multiple errors in this version. There are also translation errors in good old king James, that are rectified in New king James.

I like to cross check topics of disagreements, and do use the Amplified Bible.

      3. Shalom .

Some claimed other than King James Version , all other version is Vatican version . Is that true ? Do you have any research on this ?

        Thank you .

      4. Dear Nicloas chong.

        You asked:

Some claimed other than King James Version , all other version is Vatican version . Is that true ? Do you have any research on this ?

        My comment:

When Martin Luther translated the scripture into German, He did not use the Latin bible at all. He consider the Roman Catholic translation to be falsehood, a book full of error. Simply because it was a “political correct” translation”. In our days you need to cross check with some few versions if you want to know the truth in regards to some controversial issues.

Let me give you two examples.

        1. In the latest Bible translation in Norway, the word “virgin” has been replaced by “young female” in Isaiah 9. In Norway there are not many “young females” who are virgins. So in a modern Norwegian context, this is a huge lie. 2.000 years ago all “young females” who were not prostitutes were virgins.

        2. The latest NIV version is a mockery. The 1984 translation of NIV is usefull.

  12. Hi Ivar,

You said: “I use the NIV for the same purpose. Even though I know of multiple errors in this version.”

I used to use the NIV all the time. My Jewish-Christian friend thinks it is the best translation to use for work in the Old Testament. She says it reads the most like the Tanakh in the Hebrew. I quit using it “in protest” over what they have done to the new edition of the NIV. We’ve discussed that before, I think.

  13. The Message IS truly a Satanic Bible. Here is my reasons.
#1 – In the Lord’s Prayer Matt.6:9 instead of “Hallowed be Thy Name”- The Message turns praise to God, into “Reveal who you are!” That is a demand. From a whiny little New Age/Occultist Eugene Peterson
#2- Also in Matt. 6:10 “On Earth as it is in heaven”- is changed to
“As Above, So Below.” This is one of the most powerful Occult/Satanic/Witchcraft statement there is. Just Google As Above so Below. There is a satanic hardcore rock song named that, a book written by a practicing witch named As Above So Below. What that term means is we can be as God! Just like Satan promised…then,
#3. Luke 10:17…”Even the demons submit to us in Your Name.” Is changed to “Even the demons dance to your tune!” Okay there is a little bit of difference between SUBMISSION and DANCING. When on dances they are usually happy, joyous, and in agreement with someone. Usually folks dance together. So did the demons really dance to Jesus’ tune? That means the demons agree with Jesus, and are happy little demons.
This book is a bridge between the Occult/New Age and Christianity.
Whenever I hear of a pastor reading from it, I call him out. I send e-mails, my kids will attend a church at college and call me and tell me the pastor or youth minister read from The Message, and I send him an e-mail and educate him on the occult significance of this book.
72 times Jesus is referred to as “Master Jesus.” That is what New Ager’s call Jesus. They believe he is one of the ascended Masters

    1. You are so right, swordofjustice! Peterson’s neo-orthodoxy (that is the philosophy that pervades The Message ) will be a bridge for “Christians” to cross over into the One-World-religion—the occult whore of Babylon. Neo-orthodoxy was a 20th century reaction to the earlier “liberal” effort to “rationalize” the Christian faith. It promotes the notion that reason is at odds with faith. Bible-believing Christians (are there any other kind?) understand that we are to love God with all of our heart, i.e. all that we are. That includes loving Him with our minds as well as our emotions and will. Neo-orthodoxy is essentially fideism (an epistemology maintaining that faith is independent of reason). It is very dangerous to take any kind of a faith position that is independent of reason. It opens such a person to just about anything that appears to be “spiritual” and is antithetical to the orthodox Judeo-Christian faith. The Bible teaches us to govern our emotions through the exercise of our intelligence and will. In contrast, fideism teaches that one should “experience” God with one’s feelings and forget reason. The Israelites did that with disastrous results. They blended the faith that was given to them by God with the horrible paganism of their neighbors.

  14. I am not native English speaker, but I often use NIV translation from ’84 for OT. I just like and I guess I am used to it.

  15. Ahh corrupt bible version well Eugen Peterson I dont think if he know the Holy word of God, Rev 22:19 that say If anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book. The Message bible blaspheme agains the word of God I dont why people buy this bible

  16. One thing I did notice somewhere, is that Eugene Peterson himself do NOT advice to use “The Message” for preaching purposes!
Like, not advising pastors to use it for giving “The Word” to the church from the pulpit, so to speak.

Pretty remarkable, and to me it says “Do NOT use this book at all!”

  17. This is really sad. You are blind because you have followed blind guides! ALL Bible’s are corrupt by most of you guys standards. Do all of you Judging this man have and read Hebrew or Aramaic Bibles? Then by your own standards again, I guess you are all going to hell. You argue over the the message because your pride wont let you accept the message. Not “The Message” Bible. The message Christ had to die for just so he could deliver it to us. This page is only an attempt to create division among God’s people. You twist God’s word to support your own opinions. To take God’s glory for yourselves. Why do you think the sons of Ishmael call “Christians” Infidels. For those of you who don’t know the meaning of that word:
(Infidel is a term used in certain religions, especially Christianity and Islam, for one who has no religious beliefs, or who doubts OR REJECTS the central tenets of the particular religion. Wikipedia)
Rejects the central tenets of the particular religion!!! You mean like: judge not, or love your enemy, or here’s a good one thall shalt not kill. When Israel turned from God it went into captivity. What shall become of us America???

  18. The issue are – (1) How do we educate people not to buy/use this devil-inspired ‘Bible’? (2) How do we stop churches/evangelists using it? Modern evangelical churches with thousands of members are using this devilish message in front of them, so it is going to spread like rapid disease. I personally believe this book is not only blasphemous, but that it came from the devil via its author to further breakdown Christianity, send people using it immediately into unforgiveable sin and prevent them from being saved. Destroying this absolute corruption of the Word must be of high priority for all genuine Christians and I pray that the Truth opens everyone’s eyes a.s.a.p.
