Catholic author raises Two million to get souls out of purgatory

Author Susan Tassone’s passion is to get people out of purgatory. Since the Roman Catholic Church accepts money for Masses said for the dead, Ms. Tassone urges people to hand over their last will and testaments over to the Roman Church to get people out of the burning fires of purgatory.

Susan's one desire: getting people out of "purgatory."

Tassone has founded Holy Souls Mass  Apostolate  in 1993. All the funds raised are given to the church for Masses. She is considered an “expert” on Purgatory.

So far she has raised two million dollars for Mass stipends. She says the best way to get someone out of punishment is to have a Gregorian Mass said. The next best thing is the rosary. She also recommends the Stations of the Cross because you get ‘indulgences’ when you practice this devotion. When asked what happens if you keep having Masses said, and the person is already out of Purgatory, she responded:

The common answer is that God will apply those Masses to other souls in purgatory or to the most in need or souls in your family. But there’s more: If the soul is already in heaven, and you continue to have Masses said for them and continue to pray for them, what they get is a term we get from Thomas Aquinas — “accidental glory.”

When asked why to have Masses said for the dead, she answered:

Because God’s justice demands expiation of their sins. Christ told St. Faustina that his mercy didn’t want to send a soul to Purgatory, but his justice demands it (Diary 1226, 20).

My Comment:

Martin Luther would have had something to say about this. He would have rebuked it. As he should have. This is a very sad story. Money in the millions given as payment to get people out of  “Purgatory.” Why does the church accept this money? Does money open the doors to heaven?

Acts 8:18

When Simon saw that the Spirit was given at the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money

People are so scared their relatives are suffering they are willing to hand over their life savings to the church to get their loved ones relief.  Purgatory is for sure a doctrine of demons. It puts questions into the minds of people, “Is Jesus’ blood enough to cover me?”  “Did He pay for all my sins?”

The serpent loves to whisper, “No, He didn’t. You have to pay.”

Friend, you will never be able to pay, now or later. He already paid it all. This is the Pure Gospel of Grace. By accepting this free gift is what salvation is. You can’t work it off, pay for it with money or have an installment plan. Accept the gift Jesus offers. It’s free. It’s precious. It’s why a saved sinner is saved. It’s called Good News.  Going to Purgatory to be tortured to pay off your sins is not good news and it completely negates the Gospel. Stop living in fear. He is mighty to save. And when He saves, He saves totally and completely and His blood is enough to cover you.

  1. That is terrible that people are so deceived that they believe that Jesus’ death and shed blood payment is not enough to pay their sin debt. This lady is helping put more people in hell by encouraging this. I am sharing this link with others so they can be aware of this deception.

  2. I do pity, those who have been so weighted down, with dogma, of any religion, according to man. That is why Jesus says “take my yoke, upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle, and you will find rest for your soul.

  3. The money could have better spent getting souls into heaven through evangelistic means. Reading the Gospel of Luke Jesus might even have spent it on a party and invited all the down and outs!

  4. If you would allow me to give some food for thought here. I am a Convert to the Catholic Church of seven years. Up until then I was a Protestant all of my life.

On Martin Luther: Martin Luther hated the Jewish race and peasants even to the point of saying, “All Jews and peasants should be killed.” I heard a Protestant Minister say last week, “Martin Luther hated the Jews as bad as Adolph Hitler.” These are God’s chosen people and he knew it. Not even God Himself will ever destroy that nation of people. He never did and He never will. Yet Martin Luther wanted them extinguished from the earth.

Now on the Catholic Church and money for Masses for people in Purgatroy: “Buying God’s Blessings” more or less. What is the difference in that and these Protestant Ministers begging and begging for money telling people, “You need that new car send us your money and God will bless you with one.” “You need to get out of debt send us your money, and God will get you out of debt.” “You need to get your house paid off, send us your money and God will pay your house off.” “You need a healing, send us your money and God will heal you.” Yet I never hear about these things. It is the same thing. Now I wonder if Martin Luther would rebuke this?

Just food for thought. God Bless, SR

    1. Dear SR.

This article was not about Martin Luther. He was a man. Fallible and a sinner. Many reformers were Jew-haters and amazingly enough, the RCC is still hating the Jews. They want Israel divided and call for a Palestinian state. They also made a concordat with Hitler back in the day.

In the Middle Ages, the church charged money for sins to be forgiven. They used that money to build their huge cathedrals. People handed over their wills to “save” their families. Martin Luther, with all of his faults, called them out on it and rightly so. The doors of Heaven are not opened with cash. Is it not a tragedy for the church to get rich off of the desperation of others?

The same goes for tv preachers that scam the public. We also write about them on this site and you will find many articles regarding it.

    2. I take you point about some ministers begging for money. However Scripture says nothing about buying the release of souls from purgatory. In fact the great thing about the gospel is that God’s grace is free. I cannot earn it in any way. All I can do is live a life of thankful obedience in response. God bless.

      1. Dear Pstok

        Shalom.

I guess this verses from Paul the Apostles, can settle the matter:

        Philippians 1:15-19
It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill. The latter do so out of love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains. But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice.

        (end)

I must admit, that I sometimes wish for a great gift in cash, when I preach. That is selfish. But those who have heard me, knows I do not preach “politically correct” messages, but the Gospel. I never promise cash returns to a cheerful giver, but pray for the release of all kinds of Heavenly blessings. The biggest of them all, is to see close relatives being saved by Jesus.

    3. THE POPE DOESN’T LIKE JEWS EITHER NEITHER HAS ANY POPE SITTING IN THE VATICAN.
sorry I get a little upset when people place their soul in the teachings of anyone else but Jesus .
Who care’s who hate’s who , salvation doesn’t come from the catholic church or protestant it comes from the Jews.
Which Jesus, was born, and died a Jew.
Don’t pay attention , to what people are buying and begging money from people to buy cars house’s etc. get your own house in order, stop pointing fingers. That is enough for you to take care of.

    4. SR I am in an Apostolic Church and you get some black pastors getting their people to eat grass. (All false prophets) God is warning us in His Word against these false prophets (you get them in all churches). Accepting gay pastors etc All against God’s Word. You must pray and ask the Holy Spirit to lead you to a Congregation that is PURE and HONEST in their worship to God. Study God’s Word and prayer of utmost importance, then you will know who and what is false.

    5. I don’t see any connection. Anyone can call themselves Christian. There are some that give their lives for what is right & those that are opportunists. I don’t know that Martin Luther hated the Jews but he did see that the church was committing blasphemy & he risked his life to get the dishonest practice stopped.

    6. Dear SR, really?

      1. Martin Luther railing on the Jews shows that he did not have all the light. We do not look to Martin, we look to Christ and the Bible.

      2. Protestant ministers begging for money through enticements promising personal gain shows they lack understanding of the gospel. We do not look to the apostate Protestants, we look to Christ and the Bible.

      3. In the case of 1 and 2: TWO WRONGS DON’T MAKE A RIGHT. What you have done here is to totally deflect from the real issue, a logical fallacy and a childish tactic. Thinking people see right through this. Deal with the issue at hand without seeking to draw attention away by pointing to another blameworthy action which is unrelated to the subject we are discussing.

Get out of all the churches, is the best advice. Look to Christ and the Bible ALONE.

      1. Best response…but i encourage people to find a God centered church. Going to church is a good thing…it provides fellowship, support, joy, worship, and so much more. Sometimes we might be called to a church that is not teaching the true word of God to bare witness to others and be a walking testimony encouraging others to reevaluate their walk with Christ. Church is a beautiful place because as we know there is strength when we assembly together…Heb10:24-25.”And let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, not neglecting to meet together,as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” We must also be reminded that we are the church…When church is used in the bible it is referring to a group of people worshiping and not an actual place of worship. The word “church” comes from the Greek word ekklesia which is defined as “an assembly” or “called-out ones.” The root meaning of “church” is not that of a building, but of people. So attending church in NOT mandatory BUT it is beneficial for growth and development and it SHOULD NOT be totally dismissed as if it has no importance. Its one of the essentials in a belivers life that is not mandatory but bares good fruit such a things like fasting and meditating on the word. These things help us in our growth with the Lord and can really boost our intimate relationship with Him and spiritual awareness. Believe me im speaking from a person who has not yet found a church home but I yern to find one and who also has not adapted meditation or fasting into my spiritual communion with God yet but i desire to do so. So many scriptures point to the value of these practices but one main one that sticks out for me is when the diciples were trying to expell an evil spirit from a young boy but couldn’t and Jesus had to do it for them. Not only did he speak of their little faith which separates us from God but he also states in Matt 17:21″Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.(some bibles omit this verse but it aligns with scipture refer to Mark 9:29)The church is the body of Christ…”God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.”(Eph1:22-23). Peace and Blessings from the Church in Jesus name Amen.

    7. I think that you must be mistaken that Martin Luther hated Jews. Please let me know where to read the info. Martin Luther did go a long way towards getting us the Bible which does prove that the Catholic is man made & contradicts the Bible in almost everything it says.

    8. Neither those selling purgatory, nor those telling people that they will get rich if they send money; both are heading to hell if they do not repent & quit shredding the word of God. Neither of them can get saved by pointing fingers at the other. Neither of them are telling the truth. Hell is very real & very hot.

    9. The bible says THE GIFTS OF GOD IS WITHOUT MERCHANDISE ! STEALING MONEY AND LYING TO THE PEOPLE TELLING THEM THAT IF THEY DON’T PAY FOR PERGETORY THEN THEY WILL GO TO HELL ??? THAT IS A LIE FROM THE PIT OF HELL ! OK FOR ITS A FREE GIFT AND CATHOLICS ARE NOT EVEN CHRISTIAN OR BORN AGAIN THEY FOLLOW A MAN INSTEAD OF GOD THEY READ THE APROCRAPHA INSTEAD OF THE BIBLE EVERYTHING THAT THE POPE SAYS IS MAN MADE UP TO GET MONEY FROM YOU THAT IS STEALING AND THEY WILL GO TO HELL ALSO THE POPE WAS CAUGHT STEALING BABIES LAST YEAR AND SELLING THEM FOR 60-80 THOUSAND DOLLAR A PIECE ! HE WAS ALSO CAUGHT IN A DEMONIC CULT IN THE VATICAN FOR OVER 50 YEARS sacrificing babies and drinking their blood that is why he stole the babies to sacrifce to satan, his own telescope is called LUCIFER !!! HE WAS CHARGED IN A COURT OF LAW AND i HAVE THE COURT DOCUMENTS IF YOU WANT TO SEE THEM THE CATHOLIC CHURCH THINKS THAT ITS BY WORKS IN ORDER TO GET INTO HEAVEN WHILE THE BIBLE SAYS , its not by works should anyone boast but by grace that you are saved” and show me WHERE IN THE BIBLE THIS IS OK ? ITS NOT ! THE CATHOLIC CHURCH DEALS IN IDOLATRY AND NECROMANCER WHICH IS WITCHCRAFT ! YOU PERISH FOR LACK OF KNOWLEDGE ! IF YOU GO TO MY NOTES YOU WILL SEE A NOTE ON CATHOLICS ARE NOT CHRISTIAN AND YOU WILL SEE ALL THE SCRPTURES IN THE BIBLE SHOWING YOU THAT THE PRIESTS TEACH EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT HTE BIBLE SAY ! JUST BE CUSE YOU BELIEVE IN JESUS DOESN’T MEAN THAT YOU ARE SAVED ITS NOT JUST A SPRINKLE AS A BABY AND A RITUAL AT 12 YEARS OLD, IF YOU HAVE NOT CHANGED AND DO NOT REMEMBER GIVING YOUR LIFE TO JESUS THEN YOU HAVE HAD A FALSE CONVERSION AND YOU ARE NOT BORN AGAIN ! FOR YOU MUST REPENT OF YOUR SINS WHICH YOU DO NOT DO AT THAT 12 YEAR RITUAL AND YOU DO NOT CHANGE AT ALL YOU ARE THE SAME AS THE UNSAVED NO DIFFERNCE ! YOU HAVE BEEN BLINDED AND DECEIVED AND YOU SHOULD HAVE RUN WHEN YOU SAY THAT THE PRIESTS WERE RAPING LITTLE BOYS AND PRIESTS WERE GAY AND YET YOU STILL CAME BACK ??? i PRAY THAT YOU WILL SEE AND HEAR THE TRUTH FOR ANYONE WHO FOLLOWS THE POPE IS GOING TO HELL HE EVEN SAID NOT TO HAVE A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS AND HE ALSO JUST SIGNED UP THE MUSLIMS AND THE FALSE TEACHERS FOR A ONE WORLD RELGION LAST YEAR AS HE IS THE FALSE PROPHET AND THERE IS NOTHING IN HIM THAT IS OF GOD AT ALL WHAT SO EVER AND YOUR OTHER
RELGION WAS ALSO JUST DEAD AND DRY SO NO DIFFERENCE AN OFF SHOOT OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH IS ALL, ITS TOO BAD THAT YOU WANT TO FOLLOW A MAN INSTEAD OF GOD !

    10. Hello SR: Pointing fingers at the Protestant ministers will not get those who sell tickets out of a non-existing purgatory. They are all going to spend eternity together in the lake of fire if they don’t repent & confess their sins to God, who is the only Biblical one that can forgive sins. Jesus died on the cross to take our sins upon himself & pay for them for us but we cannot live in deliberate sin & be forgiven until we repent & confess them to God & ask forgiveness. Jesus Himself said that “No man comes to the Father but through me.” You can web search those words & they will take you straight to the scripture. When we confess our sins we need to be baptized in Jesus by being submerged in water in the name of Jesus. Jesus Himself got baptized. Matthew 3:16,17. Peter said,Each one of you must turn from your sin, return to God & be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; & then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38 . Being submerged in Jesus name is symbolic of dying & being buried with Jesus. Coming up out of the water is symbolic of being resurrected with Jesus. We are then buried into Christ. Also, when we are baptized in water in Jesus name, all of our past sins are forgiven, & all present & future sins are forgiven if we repent & confess & ask God to forgive us. We cannot do deliberate sin because we are forgiven. Some people teach that but deliberate sin because you think that your forgiven won’t fly. Jesus sacrifice on the cross was a perfect, never to be repeated sacrifice. Do a web search of Baptism. The person whose father was told by a dark shadow to give the money was fooled by one of Satan’s demons. Satan is of the dark & Jesus is of the light. Web search Jesus saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in darkness. I’ll give you $100 if you can prove purgatory is in the Bible.

    11. Anyone can call themselves a Christian. But a Christian is a follower of Jesus Christ. The apostate church is predicted in the Bible & it is here. Not every one who says “Lord, Lord.” is going to go to heaven. Those Protestant ministers will go to hell if they do not repent. America has been a friend to Israel because protestants know that God has said that those who bless Israel will be blessed & those who curse Israel will be cursed. I do not know about Martin Luther but I do know that when judgement day comes we will all stand before God & give an account of ourselves. We will not impress God by pointing fingers at Martin Luther, protestants, or anyone else.

    12. SR , you are 100 percent correct . there is no difference really .
But let me explain something about this article that everybody is missing .
The Money isn’t for Souls its for the Stipends . That Moment goes to the priests . the Masses are what are being offered for the souls , not the Money .

Read the article . The article article makes it quite clear about that

It interesting tooo , that the headline is totally misleading and doesn’t correlate to article . The headlines would have you believe that the money was for the souls , but that not what happening

      God bless

  5. Spend your money, if affordable, on the people who are alive to get the message of ‘TRUTH’. To the ones who are ignorant and lack knowledge of this ‘TRUTH’ when alive.
I love the statement made Purgatory,,,the doctrine of the demons.
I am a catholic, and there is a lot of hocus-pocus in our church playing on the sentiments of people and where there is a strong cocktail of religion & money. Overflowing with rubbish.
Garbage opinions becomes doctrines, even when proved false.
Come out from darkness to LIGHT.

    1. Dear Ronny.

      Shalom.

      You wrote:

I am a catholic, and there is a lot of hocus-pocus in our church..

      My reply:

That was an amazing statement. Since you still do not brand your self as a protestant, I wounder if you are an ex “hocus-pocus Catholic”, or still look up on this Church as “Holy” and infallible.

    2. Ronnie you should read the book by an ex priest named Bennett. He collected bios from 50 priests that left the Catholic Church. All but 2 became Protestant ministers. When they read the Bible they saw that the Catholic religion is man made & contrary to the Bible. One of them said that he took 3 courses about the Bible without ever seeing a Bible.

    3. Dear Ronnie. You recognize that there is a lot of garbage in the Catholic Church. There is also a lot of garbage in some Protestant churches too. I suggest that you search for a Protestant Church that follows the Bible. Find one that baptizes by immersion in water like all in the Bible were. Find one that serves the Lord’s Supper with each Sunday morning service & one that does not teach that all you have to do is to ask Jesus to come into your heart & you are eternally saved & that once you are saved nothing, including living in deliberate sin, can take away your salvation. That includes Baptist churches. I am familiar with a Baptist Church that doe teach these things. The purpose of the Lord’s Supper is in memory of Jesus’ dying on the cross to pay for our sins. They say that they do this quarterly. If the horrible suffering on the cross is not worthy of remembering every Sunday morning then keep looking for another.

  6. Dear Ronnie,

Perhaps you are hanging on in the RCC because of cultural reasons.Perhaps you pick and choose what to believe.

The Bible is always a dividing line and I encourage you to pick it up and read it, praying for discernment.

My exodus from Catholicism started with seeds of discontent that grew into a field of weeds that only the bible could cut down.

    In Him,
    Sue

  7. Pstok,

Thank you for seeing the point I was making. I do not agree with what the Church did in the “Middle Ages” with the selling of indulgences, nor do I agree with what is going on today what appears to me to be the same thing, from the Protestant side.

I think what bothers me is it is always either/or.
Being on “both sides of this coin” I know the faults and virtues of both, as some of these bloggers do,also.

Man is imperfect at best no matter how perfect we think we are. No matter how much wisdom we think we have there is always lack in the full understanding of all things. Grace is a wonderful gift of God to us all. I just wish we all could learn to appreaciate more. God Bless, SR

    1. There are many kinds of Protestant churches. Some of them live by the Bible & some pollute the scriptures to turn the church in a money. Get into a church that sticks to the Bible for the possible sake of your salvation.

  8. MAY I COMMENT, BEGINNING WITH THIS AS A STARTING-POINT FROM ABOVE: “… God’s justice demands expiation of their sins…Christ told St. Faustina that his mercy didn’t want to send a soul to Purgatory, but his justice demands it (Diary 1226,2.)….” I CAUTION AGAINST A KNEE-JERK REACTION TO THIS PARAPHRASE-OF-SCRIPTURE QUOTATION BY A SISTER IN CHRIST, CONFIRMING–FIRST OF ALL–THAT I BELONG TO NO CONGREGATION BUT THAT OF CHRIST, AND I WILL TEACH YOU THE SCRIPTURE, WHICH IS THE FOLLOWING. 1 CORINTHIANS 3:15. “If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.” THIS MEANS: GOD WILL BURN UP THE WORK OF ANY MAN WHO BUILDS UNWORTHILY–AS THE SCRIPTURE-CONTEXT SAYS, IN 1 CORINTHIANS 3–; HE WILL ‘EXPERIENCE FIRE,’ AND THERE IS NO NEED TO GO INTO THAT, TO TRY TO DESCRIBE IT, ‘WHERE,’ OR ‘WHEN,’ IT IS EXCEPT AT THIS TIME TO SAY THAT A PERSON WILL ‘HAVE THE EXPERIENCE OF FIRE WHICH PURGES ALL THAT IS UNWORTHY’–ADJECTIVE ‘PURGATORIAL’–, WITHOUT CALLING UP ANY–BECAUSE THIS IS SCRIPTURAL, NOT TRADITIONAL–‘IDEAS’ ASSOCIATED WITH IT…SAVED. THE…SAVED…PERSON. WILL BE PURGED BY FIRE. ACCORDING TO THE WORKS OF THAT PERSON. ‘THE EXPERIENCE OF FIRE.’ I AM NOT SAYING PHYSICAL, OR MYSTICAL. EXPERIENCE OF FIRE IS PRETTY HORRIFIC, WHETHER IT BE MATERIAL OR SPIRITUAL; ALL I HAVE TO KNOW IS ‘SAVED AS BY FIRE’–AND THAT IS SCRIPTURAL–: THE SAVED PERSON ‘EXPERIENCES FIRE’ BASED ON THE WORTHINESS OR UNWORTHINESS OF WORKS: “13. Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.
    14. If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. 15. If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.” THE DISCUSSION IS OF BUILDING ON THE FOUNDATION OF SALVATION IN JESUS-CHRIST; 1 CORINTHIANS 3. THAT IS ISSUE ONE: ‘PURGATORY,’ ‘SAVED AS BY FIRE,’ IS BIBLICAL AS A CONCEPT, BIBLICALLY, WITHOUT ADDING ANYTHING ELSE TO IT, CONJECTURALLY. SCRIPTURAL. DETAILS ARE DETAILS.

THE SECOND ISSUE: PRAYING FOLKS OUT. HMN. PRAY FOR ANYBODY! PRAY FOR THEIR UNDERSTANDING, THEIR CHANGE OF HEART, THEIR REPENTANCE, RELIEF OF THEIR BURDENS, QUICK EFFECTUALNESS OF THE EXPERIENCE? WHY NOT… SEEMS GOOD! GOD SAYS, “PRAY FOR EACH OTHER.” SO.

ISSUE THREE: PAY FOR IT; HERE IT GETS DICEY. I WOULD SAY–FIRST OF ALL–THAT THIS LADY IS PROBABLY CREATIVELY TAKING ADVANTAGE OF WHATEVER IS CURRENTLY BEING DONE IN HER ‘CONGREGATION’ AND ENHANCING IT IN DEGREE WHERE SHE SEES AN OPPORTUNITY, BUT LET US BACK UP; WE OUGHT TO PRAYING. SHE WANTS FOLKS TO BE PRAYING IN A PUBLIC WAY, ‘EN MASSE,’–NOT THAT THAT IS WHAT ‘MASS’ MEANS–, AND IF BRINGING IT UP IN A MASS–IN A SERVICE–DOES IT THEN SHE WANTS IT BROUGHT UP AT MASS… SHE COULD E-MAIL EVERYBODY TO DO IT… SO FAR, THERE IS NO PROBLEM. THIS IS LIKE ACTING PASTORS TO REMEMBER THUS-AND-SUCH–IF PASTORS COULD BE CONVINCED DEAD PEOPLE COULD BE AFFECTED AT ALL; OF COURSE, THEY ARE ALIVE…; THEY ARE SAVED, AFTER ALL–IN PRAYER–I REALIZE WE HAVE A HUGE ‘ARGUMENT,’ HERE, BUT BEAR WITH ME, SO THAT IF SHE THINKS PEOPLE CAN BE PRAYED FOR THIS OR THAT SIDE ‘OF THE VEIL,’ SINCE THEY ARE STILL ALIVE, AS ARE WE ALL WHO ARE ‘ASLEEP IN CHRIST,’ AND NOT FOR THEIR SALVATION–WHICH IS ALREADY ASSURED, WHETHER SHE UNDERSTANDS THAT, OR NOT–BUT FOR THEIR AMELIORATION OF SUFFERING WHERE AT ALL POSSIBLE FOR WHAT THEY HAVE DONE IN LIFE PRIOR TO THEIR GLORY, THEN ASKING FOR PRAYER WOULD BE GOOD, THE MORE, THE BETTER. BUT WHAT SHE HAS IS A CHURCH THAT IS ACCEPTING MONEY…

NOW, ONE COULD SAY, PRIESTS AND PASTORS REGULARLY RECEIVE LOVE-OFFERINGS FROM APPRECIATIVE PARISHIONERS/MEMBERS/CONGREGANTS/BELIEVERS, AND FACILITIES OFTEN CHARGE TO COVER THE OPERATION OF THEIR SANCTUARIES–THEY MIGHT NOT PUT IT THAT WAY BUT NEED TO PAY LIGHTS AND CARPET-CLEANERS, AND SO FORTH–, SO THAT SORT OF THING HAPPENS. TO SO DIRECTLY LINK, THOUGH, WHAT SHOULD BE FREE–PRAYER–FROM ONE’S BROTHERS, AND SISTERS, AND ESPECIALLY FROM THE SHEPHERDS OF ONE, TO MONEY IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, AND IS INDEED AKIN TO THE IMPRESSION THAT WAS MADE AND ALLOWED TO BE MADE AT THE TIME OF THE REFORMATION IN THE ROMAN-CATHOLIC CONGREGATION ENCOMPASSING MUCH IF NOT THE MAJORITY OF THE CHRISTIAN BODY WORLDWIDE AT THE TIME. THE ACTUAL FACT WAS THAT INDULGENCES WERE SOME KIND OF RECOGNITION OF EARNESTNESS AND EFFORT THAT MADE UP AN IMPORTANT PART OF THE KIND OF REPARATION ONE MAKES WHEN ONE HAS DONE A HEINOUS EVIL, NOT JUST SORRY I TORE YOUR CARPET, MA’AM, BUT I WILL REPLACE THAT, OR AT LEAST HAVE IT MENDED, EVEN IF FORGIVEN ALREADY; IT IS GOOD. THEY WERE NOT FORGIVENESS OF SIN: HOWEVER, THAT IS HOW THEY WERE PREACHED BY MANY, AND THAT WAS ALLOWED TO BE BY A MONEY-HUNGRY PORTION OF ‘THE HIERARCHY’ WHO HAD POWER.

DID ANY OF THAT MAKE SENSE? <3+w

    1. Purgatory is not Biblical. When Jesus died on that cross He took our sins on Himself & paid for them for us. The Bible clearly says that “the only way to the Father is by Me.” Web search it. “No man comes to the Father but by Me.” That is Jesus talking. The only one who can forgive sins is God. Read your Bible. You need to get baptized into Jesus. All Baptisms in the Bible were people who chose to be baptized & they were dipped into the water; which is symbolic of being buried with Jesus, along with all of your past sins. Being raised out of the water is symbolic of being resurrected with Jesus. Do a web search about baptism. Jesus Himself was baptized by John the Baptist & that was by being dunked into the water.

  9. AS TO THE DEAD: THOSE IN CHRIST, JOHN 11:”25. Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
    26. And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?” DO WE?

WE SEE SAINTS IN HEAVEN WHO ARE AWARE, UNDER THE ALTAR, BEFORE THE LAST DAY, AWAITING THE NUMBER OF THEIR BRETHREN, WHO ARE YET TO BE MARTYRED–AWARE–; WE SEE ELDERS WHO ARE DIFFERENTIATED FROM ANGELS WHO RECEIVE THE PRAYERS–REVELATION 8:”3. And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne. 4. And the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel’s hand.” AFTER, REVELATION 5, BEING GIVEN THEM BY THE SAID ELDERS, WHO ARE IDENTIFIED HERE, “8. And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.”–SIGNIFICANT; LOOK AT…WHO THE ELDERS, ARE–”

    9. And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;”–THESE ARE PEOPLE WHO ARE NOW IN HEAVEN–“10. And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.” THESE ARE CHRISTIANS. WE LIVE; WE HAVE PRAYERS OF THE SAINTS WITH US IN HEAVEN; THEY ARE DELIVERED…FOR EVERY SAINT–“THE PRAYERS OF ALL SAINTS,” ABOVE, SO THAT INCLUDES THOSE WITH THE ELDERS–TO GOD OUT OF THE ANGEL’S HAND; THE ANGEL OFFERED THE PRAYERS OF “ALL THE SAINTS,” WHICH INCLUDES THOSE THE “ELDERS” HOLD ONTO. “THE DEAD” DO INDEED HAVE A ROLE IN GETTING THE PRAYERS OF THE SAINTS EFFECTUALLY “DELIVERED.”

    1. Jesus said, “Whatever you ask of the Father in my name, believing, you shall receive.” He also said, “No man comes to the Father except through me.” Web search it from in the Bible.

  10. Do you know why Jacques Costeau, the famous underwater explorer, quit deep sea diving sometime before he died? It is said that he stopped because he had heard in one of the underwater caves he was exploring, the sounds of people screaming.

There was also another time, when one of his men, who was in a diving bell in the deepest trench at the Bermuda Triangle, also had a similar experience. He signaled to be brought up immediately. After being revived from his shock, he told others of his frightening experience of hearing “Screams of people in pain”.http://www.amightywind.com/hell/aboutsounds.htm
    into Heaven?
[Please Note: There has been much debate whether this is real or not. We are not saying it is real or not but we feel it is important enough to post it and let you the reader decide.]

These details are from the translation of an article in a Finnish newspaper named ‘Ammennusatia’.

A geological group who drilled a hole about 14.4 kilometers deep in the crust of the earth are saying that they heard human screams. Screams have been heard from the condemned souls from earth’s deepest hole. Terrified scientists are afraid they have let loose the evil powers of hell up to the earth’s surface.

‘The information we are gathering is so surprising, that we are sincerely afraid of what we might find down there,’ stated Dr Azzacov, the manager of the project in remote Siberia.

‘The second surprise was the high temperature they discovered in the earth’s center. ‘The calculations indicate the given temperature was about 1,100 degrees Celsius, or over 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit,’ Azzacov pointed out. ‘This is far more then we expected. It seems almost like an inferno of fire is brutally going on in the center of the earth.

‘The last discovery was nevertheless the most shocking to our ears, so much so that the scientists are afraid to continue the project. We tried to listen to the earth’s movements at certain intervals with supersensitive microphones, which were let down through the hole. What we heard turned those logically thinking scientists into a trembling ruins. It was a sometimes a weak, but high pitched sound which we thought to be coming from our own equipment,’ explained Dr Azzacov.

‘But after some adjustments we comprehended that indeed the sound came from the earth’s interior. We could hardly believe our own ears. We heard a human voice, screaming in pain. Even though one voice was discernible, we could hear thousands, perhaps millions, in the background, of suffering souls screaming. After this ghastly discovery, about half of the scientists quit because of fear. Hopefully, that which is down there will stay there,’ Dr Azzacov added.

‘What really unnerved the Soviets, apart from the voice recordings, was the appearance that same night of a fountainhead of luminous gas shooting up from the drill site, and out of the midst of this incandescent cloud pillar a brilliant being with bat wings revealed itself with the words (in Russian): ‘I have conquered,’ emblazoned against the dark Siberian sky.

‘The incident was absolutely unreal; the Soviets cried out in terror,’ says Mr. Nummedal. Later that night, he saw ambulance crews circulating in the community. A driver he knew told him that they had been told to sedate everybody with a medication known to erase short term memory. The Soviets use this drug in the treatment of shock victims.

    * * * * * * *

Dr. Azzacove “As a communist I don’t believe in heaven or the Bible but as a scientist I now believe in hell,” said Dr. Azzacove. “Needless to say we were shocked to make such a discovery. But we know what we saw and we know what we heard. And we are absolutely convinced that we drilled through the gates of Hell!”

Dr. Azzacove continued, “. . .the drill suddenly began to rotate wildly, indicating that we had reached a large empty pocket or cavern. Temperature sensors showed a dramatic increase in heat to 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit.”

“We lowered a microphone, designed to detect the sounds of plate movem

  11. how can you pray for a dead person, they are dead the other side of eternity.
no way back. there is no purgatory biggest money making lie the catholic church has ever come up with.
no I am not a protestant, I follow the teaching of Jesus, who never preached a religion He came preaching about the kingdom of GOD .
CAN YOU JUST SEE IT, ON JUDGEMENT DAY, GOD SAYING CATHOLIC’S OVER HERE PROTESTANT’S OVER THERE ALL THE OTHER RELIGIONS.
YOU GET BEHIND ME. COME ON GUY’S GET REAL .

  12. W still did not give up the idea of purgatory. “If a man’s works do not survive” does not have anything to do with purgatory. I will, give you $100 if you can prove Purgatory is in the Bible. What you wrote does not even hint at purgatory. And it did not hint that earthly money could save anyone. If you can get sins forgiven by paying money then why did Jesus Christ spend all that time hanging on that cross with nails in Himself? My Bible says that Jesus paid for our sins; He took sin upon Himself, & it was nailed to His cross & if we confess & repent of our sins & quit sinning then His Blood on the Cross set us free from the penalty of sin. Jesus Himself was baptized by John. Peter said that “You must repent & be baptized for the remission of your sins.” He didn’t say how babies can do this. In fact I will give you another $100 if you can show a single scripture that accepts baptism by anyone who did not personally seek to be baptized, & was baptized any way except being submerged in water. The being dipped in the water is symbolic of dying & being buried with Jesus, along with our sins. Coming up out of the water is symbolic with being resurrected with Jesus.
Jesus said that “no man comes to the Father except by me.” Jesus also said that anyone who tries to come to the Father by any way other than Himself is a thief & a robber. None of this praying to Mary & the saints. We go to the Father in the name of Jesus.

    1. Much doctrinal development comes from Apostolic tradition which has been passed down and preserved by the Catholic Church for almost 2000 years.

Reformists rejected Apostolic tradition, by failing to separate it from man-made tradition.

It is literally and explicitly stated in Scripture that we are to hold to the Apostolic traditions in many verses such as in
      2Thessalonians 2:15

“So then, brethren, stand firm, and hold the teachings that you have learned, whether by word or by letter of ours.”

The “word of ours” can mean nothing other than Apostolic Tradition.

Church Apostolic tradition is Catholic, and when the Protestants broke from the Church in the Reformation, they could not take Catholic Church traditions with them so they have tried to condemn them.

However, they did take the Catholic Bible with them, and promptly mutilated it by removing seven books which had been part of the canon for over 1100 years.

By removing the Books of Maccabees, they cut themselves off from a very good verse in support of Purgatory in 2Maccabees 12:46.

These books were removed by one man who had absolutely no authority whatsoever to do so, and it was his opinion that Purgatory did not exist.

  13. another deluded person who believes in the heretical false doctrine of purgatory. I thought that this place was supposed to cleanse people of sin so that they can be fitted for heaven? It would seem that paying money to the church releases a person from being cleansed so that they can go to heaven as they are. If that is the case then why not just release everyone.

This is what happens when people believe the false doctrine of the immortality of the soul.

    1. Hello:Thank you for this feedback. It is very interesting.I have 2 Catholic grandsons that I am trying to convert.I will forward this to themLotsa love Joann Barton

  14. Jo ann Barton is absolutely correct because what she wrote is Biblical – the inerrant word of God. Catholics need to read it and to stop believing the lies of the enemy who uses Catholicism to confuse, distract, and deceive the people away from the truth. No “priest, pope or nun” will be there with you one moment after you take that last breath- read the Bible! We have the Holy Spirit Who will lead you into all truth if you are sincerely seeking the Living God. READ WHAT JESUS ACTUALLY SAID!

  15. Pleas read the rich man and Lazarus – God’s Word is warning against all these false prophets!!! We are in the end times (expecting the Lord’s return) Satan is trying anything in his power to deceive the child of God & the world – unfortunately THE LATTER IS STARTING IN THE CHURCH !!!

    1. You are save when you give your life to Christ Jesus not religion, Jesus has taken all away our sins, after dead is judgment is too late to pray for the salvation of the dead,no amount of money spent can save any soul after dead thanks.

  16. I hear the Savior say,
    Thy strength indeed is small;
Child of weakness, watch and pray,
Find in Me thine all in all.

    Jesus paid it all,
    All to Him I owe;
Sin had left a crimson stain,
He washed it white as snow.

  17. The price is paid,
    Come let us enter in
    To all that Jesus died
    To make our own
    For every sin
    More than enough He gave
    And bought our freedom
    From each guilty stain

    The price is paid
    Alleluia
    Amazing grace
    So strong and sure
And so with all my heart
    My life in every part
I live to thank You for
    The price You paid

    The price is paid
    See Satan flee away
    For Jesus crucified
    Destroys his power
    No more to pay
    Let accusation cease
    In Christ there is
    No condemnation now

    The price is paid
    And by that scourging cruel
    He took our sicknesses
    As if His own
    And by His wounds
    His body broken there
    His healing touch may now
    By faith be known

    The price is paid
    ‘Worthy the Lamb’ we cry
    Eternity shall never
    Cease His praise
    The church of Christ
    Shall rule upon the earth
    In Jesus’ name we have
    Authority

  18. Though this is a sad commentary, the writers Gospel message is also incomplete! Biblical salvation is a free gift and a cost everything lifestyle! New Covenant Salvation is a process that requires repentance from sin, faith, obedience, perseverance and love! It is mans response to Gods grace that transforms unto Christlikeness.
Not for Salvation but because of it!

  19. Woe to you Pharisees and scribes, hypocrites!, for you devour widow’s homes and for a pretense make long prayers. Ye shall receive the greater damnation! Matthew 25. That verse is conveniently removed from Catholic and most modern bibles.

    1. Not true. Its Matthew 23:14 anyway. Its in Catholic bibles (the older ones anyway) and its parallel is in Luke and Mark which are not left out of any bible.

  20. Before ranting too much, keep this in mind. If someone reported on how one person interpreted your beliefs, and the person doing the reporting clearly had an agenda of hostility towards you beliefs, your beliefs would sound just as bad.

Charity requires what the facts are behind the story, before passing judgment.

  21. mstings: Are you saying that the ones claiming that there is no purgatory are wrong? If you claim that we are wrong all that you have to do to prove your case is to quote the scriptural references. We have Bibles & no human can forgive sins. I am willing to be shone. I will give you $100 if you can prove that there is a purgarty. This is not a hostile agenda. Jesus paid for our sins on the cross. Do a web search. Jesus said that the only way to the Father (God) is thru Himself. You pray to God in Jesus Name.

  22. If the Roman Catholic Church can do something to ensure that souls souls dont end up in hell, then why are they worried about getting them out?

  23. Just a note, this woman raised $2mil for 400,000 Masses. That’s $5 a Mass, which is an administrative fee that covers incidental costs, like candles, the Mass cards that are sent to families, and things of that nature. I think it’s disingenuous to say she’s buying souls out of heaven.

      1. Speaking logically, we don’t have the holiness necessary to enter heaven. Purgatory is a place of purification to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven. It’s where we ensure our clothes (our souls) are appropriate for the wedding feast. If what you believe is true, then what the Bible says is false. Psalm 24 asks “who shall ascend the hill to the Lord? And who shall stand in his holy place?” the psalmist answers, “He who has clean hands and a pure heart.” Jesus says in Matt 5:8 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” If, from the moment you’re baptised and accept Jesus as Lord and savior, you commit any sins, have any immorality or impurity in your heart, your heart is not pure. Jesus saves us from the punishment of our sins, of course, but that doesn’t purify our hearts and our souls. But to accept impurity into heaven goes against the divine nature–and against Jesus’s words. Therefore, purgatory makes sense.

  24. Sue said:
Friend, you will never be able to pay, now or later. He already paid it all. This is the Pure Gospel of Grace.
By accepting this free gift is what salvation is.

    Scripture please !

Conversely, the only way to be in the bride of Christ is the way Peter said.

    Acts 2:38
Repent and be paptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins and you shall recieve the gift of the Holy Ghost.

    Acts 19: 1-7

Have YOU received the Holy Ghost since you believed ?

  25. Pray to the Holy Spirit to give you Catholic haters the gift of desernment. and not to judge others for the good things they doing..What will bring to you..just bad emotions….Wasting your energy judging the true One Universal Church.. STOP pointing and just concentrate on your journey to God.There is no need to prove this to you..DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH….

    Have a blessed day.

    1. Collecting money to get people out of a non existing place is not doing a good thing. I still offer you $100 to show me any scriptures that there is any purgatory in the Bible. I’ll give you another $100 if you can show where anyone but God can forgive sins.

  26. “Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:”  (1 Peter 1:18-19)

  27. Please show one place in scripture that backs up this ” theory”. And they leave it in the correct context… searching out original text. Scripture only, please…. NOT Pope ___ said this or that…. I look forward to the response to this!

  28. Everything they do is contrary to the Bible. There is a fascination book by an ex priest named Bennett. It is about 50 priest who left the church. When they finally saw a Bible & realize that the whole religion was man made they left the church & almost all became Protestant ministers. One ex priest said he took 3 courses on the Bible without ever seeing a Bible.

  29. Ephesians Chapter 2 : verse 8,9 It is by the grace through faith, that you are saved; not of yourselves; it is the gift of God; not of works; lest anyone should boast of themselves

  30. May I ask for a scripture reference supporting Purgatory because I am genuinely concerned. The article claims that Ms. Tassone is a “expert” on purgatory and I would like some clarification on how this whole process works.

  31. Every scripture reference that I know says that there is no such place. Jesus died on the cross to pay for our sins & scriptures say that the only way to God is through Jesus. Whatever you ask of the Father in my name, believing, you shall receive. This scripture cab be found on the web by typing it in. We need to get into a church that baptizes by submersion, like every baptism in the Bible was done. Being dipped into the water represents being buried, along with our sins, into Christ. Being lifted out of the water represents being resurrected with Jesus, & all past sins are forgiven. All current & future sins are forgiven if we try not to sin. If we do sin we ask God to forgive us. God is the only one that can forgive sins,

  32. Saying prayers for the poor souls in Purgatory and having Masses offered for them are authentic forms of Christian charity. A Mass stipend (“offering”) is a very small sum and merely a means of supporting the clergy (either an individual priest or a religious community to which he belongs) in their ministry. It’s not a form of payment as such, as simony is strictly contrary to Christian morals and forbidden by the Catholic Church. See canon 1380 in the current Code of Canon Law, and paragraphs 2118,2121 in the 1997 Catechism, for starters.

As for Susan Tassone’s apostolate and her particular approach, I’m not sure. I’ve not heard of it previously and I’m not sure it’s getting a fair shake in the linked article. One thing that has happened, sadly, in the last 40+ years, is that too few Christians were/are properly instructed regarding the reality of Purgatory and the need to pray for the pour souls suffering there. Perhaps she feels motivated to “offset” that a bit.

The late Fr. Hardon wrote a fine essay on Purgatory, giving some historical perspective, which is freely accessible in the digital library of CatholicCulture (a website run by two laymen):

    https://www.catholicculture.org/culture/library/view.cfm?recnum=4677

Peace of Christ be with you.

  33. michaelsbradleyjr: I offer $100 to anyone that can show me where such a place is mentioned in the Bible. I hope that you will give my words an objective read. You mention Canon Law. I will respond with scripture straight from the Bible. In response to Canon law; Matthew says in the Bible: “Matt 15:6, “Thus have you made the commandment of God the non effect by your traditions.” Matt 15:9 says: But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. Earthly money cannot pay for our sins. Jesus died on the cross, taking our sins upon Himself, & he paid for them for us. One thing that we have to do to get forgiven is to confess our sins to God, & repent; quit sinning. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth & the life. No man comes to the Father but thru me..” John 14:6 None of the Saints that Catholics pray to are mentioned in the Bible. “For one offering (on the cross) He made perfect those who are made holy.Hebrews 10:14.
See Romans 4:24,25. You can web search it. Hebrews 10:10-14,18: By which will we are sanctified thru the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once & for all. And every priest stands daily ministering & offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: But this man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down on the right hand of God; From henceforth expecting till His enemies be made His footstool, for by one offering He has perfected forever them that are sanctified. Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.(On the cross He made this perfect, never to be repeated, sacrifice.) And being made perfect, He became the author of eternal salvation unto them that obey Him. Hebrews 5:9. I don’t have time to look up more scriptures but you can web search them. We need to accept Jesus as our savior. We need to confess our sins to God; & repent. There is a scripture that says if we confess & repent that He is quick to forgive us.repent We are expected to be baptized into Him. When we after baptized, being submerged into the water represents being buried with Him, along with all past sins. When raised from the water it is symbolic with being resurrected with Him. I believe that there is a scripture that says that after baptism we are new creatures in Christ. Jesus was baptized (web search it). Do a thorough search of baptism. There is a scripture that says that baptism is not what saves you; it is the proclamation that goes with it. However, you still have to be baptized because the proclamation cannot be made without it. Many scriptures say that you must be baptized. In the 2nd chapter of Peter, I forget which verse, Peter said “You must be baptized for the remission of your sins & you shall receive the gift of the holy spirit. I suggest that you read a book by Bennett, an ex priest who collected 50 bios from priests who got hold of a Bible & left the church. All but 2 of them became Protestant Ministers. One of then said that he took 3 courses on the Bible without ever seeing a Bible. May God Bless You!

    1. This is not an answer to your question Joann, however i am rather supporting the idea you are talking about. I just wanted to have my say as i am doing a school assignment on the expression of diversity within christianity and found this topic, purgatory to be one of the ways that catholics express their beliefs completely different to Protestantism. Protestantism does not believe in purgatory due to their total authority of the bible, it was only able to become part of the catholic church due to their giving of authority to tradition and the pope, which is not biblical at all the bible is the only source of authority and truth. Purgatory is a money making scheme if you ask me, just look at the cathedrals of the catholic churches! How elaborate they are, compared with the humble protestant churches we can see where the money is spent! The money doesn’t go to saving lives from purgatory or even getting people to heaven (such as evangelistic meetings of protestantism) it simply goes to the expenses of the church! Just my thoughts let me know what you think

      1. Dear Armorecc

        Shalom, and love in Jesus.

        You wrote:

        Purgatory = tested through fire.
You will find this in several places in Holy Scripture.

        My comment:

Purgatory is in Catholic theology the place were the souls shall be cleansed by fire, after death. In fact these souls are in constant pain ang agony. The truth is horrible. Yes, these departed Roman Catholics are alive. But they are eternally burning in Hell.

There are no religious organizations like the Roman Caholic Church, who mint more money on souls being sent to Hell. By the Vatican priesthood. It amounts to grotesque imorallity to collect money for rememberence masses, where the RCC claim that prayer by faithful parishoners will shorten the time of purging, and evetuelly push the soul into the kingdom of Heaven.

Those who believe in this RCC doctrine, have been decieved by Satan. There is no exit from the biblical place with torture by fire. Hell is a permanent place of torturment, for all souls who refused to repent when they were present on Earth.

      2. Hello:I responded to a blog & if possible I would like a copy that I can print off. It would be a good one to use to educate about Jesus paying our debt on the cross & the need to get baptized, etc without needing to copy it over & over. My icon is like a blue & white & round like a wheel. It was sent @ 1:59 a.m.It begins Hello Blanca: From the Bible Eve walked with God…  That 1:59was sent their time. I actually wrote it this P.M.If it takes a lot of time it is not a necessity.Call if you want to go for prayer. I wii see about having one, or more for you to pray for me. My memory did improve some. I am have almost quitforgetting big time. I only did it once in the last 3 or 4 days.  That is good!!!lotsa love Joann

  34. I believe that Satan is the root of the Catholic Church. Their teachings are either totally missing from the Bible, or distortions of what is in the Bible. I do believe that the rapture & the tribulation are very close & Satan will be ruling visibly, thru the Antichrist, for 3 1/2 years after which Jesus will return to reign on earth for 1,000 years. I have believed that, since the popes have been claiming to be God, that the Antichrist would be a pope, but Pope Francis seems to better describe the False prophet. I believe that he is paving the way for the Antichrist.

    1. What rapture are you referring to? Do you believe in the secret rapture?? and also i was just wondering what religion you are from?

      1. Hello Georgie: My favorite source about the rapture is Rosh HaShanah Chapter 7. Be sure to choose the one with chapter 7. This is about more than one Jewish Feast but Rosh HaShanah & the one about the Wedding of the Messiah are the main ones about the rapture. Also, another interesting search is A Shadow of the Coming Jesus.

  35. I don’t know about a secret rapture. The scriptures point to The Feast of The Trumpets as when it will happen. Nobody knows the day or the hour. It does not say that we can’t know the week, the month or the year. We do know the month, but not the day, week, or year. Next Sept. we will not know if this is the year, or not, until the last trump is blown at the end of the long day. It is known when every Feast, except the Feast of the Trumpets, begins. Because it is unknown when the new moon will appear, they can’t know the day, or the hour, when the Feast of Trumpets will appear. So, the religious leaders place 2 witnesses to watch for the new moon. When they see it they rush to tell the religious leaders that they both saw it, The leaders announce that the feast has began. The feast lasts for 2 days & 2 nights that are called the long day. During the long day there are blown 100 blows on the trumpet. The scripture says that He will come in the twinkling of an eye at the last trump.

  36. REPENT & GET BORN AGAIN, SUSAN TASSONE & GET ON BOARD RAISING $$$ FOR THE SPREADING OF THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST TO THOSE WHO ARE STILL ON THIS SIDE OF THE GRAVE!!!
“Oh Dear GOD, for Jesus sake, please send Your Holy Spirit to lead this lost woman to THE TRUTH!! It seems she has a heart & the desire to do what she considers as “help” but is seriously lacking in understanding of The Word of God as revealed in Your Son, Jesus. You Only can open blinded eyes & bring The True Light to a darkened soul. Thank You, Heavenly Father!”

  37. When I was a child, my father and brothers witnessed a black shadow coming every night and sitting by my dad. My dad’s experience was of someone sort of sitting on top of him and not allowing him to move. After many occurrences, he finally got the courage to ask what he wanted. The shadow answered he was my grandfather and needed 5 masses said on his name to come out of purgatory. Now my dad was no saint. In fact his life was a total mess from a Christian point of view. And his catholic faith consisted of going to mass only when there was a party. I think purgatory is very real and masses are very helpful to the departed souls and us. Whether her intentions with money are good or bad, I do not judge but I just wanted to tell my story of why I believe purgatory is a reality.

    1. Why am I not allowed to forward this article to my email list? I thought the 1st copy was sent OK but I can’t send it again?

    2. Hello Blanca. From the Bible. Eve walked & talked in person with God. She saw Him face to face. But Satan talked to her & convinced her to disobey God. Despite her personal contact, she was snookered by Satan. Satan, & his devils hate us & their goal is to destroy us. The disobedience of Eve brought about the 1st sin & the 1st generational curse that we are under to this day. Because of the disobedience of Eve the demons are allowed to tempt us make wrong choices to this day. Do a web search about Satan & darkness. Do one about Jesus is the light. Sin is so terrible in the eyes of God that it is worthy of death. It has to be paid for with death. To rescue us, Jesus took our sins on Himself & died on the cross in our place. He paid for our sins on the cross. He made the perfect, once & for all, never to be repeated, sacrifice for us. If we accept Him as our Savior our sins are forgiven. We will be sinners but we will lead the most Holy life that we can. When we slip & sin He is quick to forgive us if we repent & confess & ask God to forgive us. God is the only one who can forgive our sin. We go to God thru Jesus. We pray to God in Jesus name. Many scriptures tell this to us but one that you can web search is: No man goes to the Father but through me. Jesus is the Me here. When we become a believer we need to get baptized. No baptism is valid if the one that gets baptized hasn’t made the choice.
When you are immersed into the water You are symbolically dying & being buried with Jesus & all your passed sins are washed away & forgiven. Current & future sins are also forgiven if you don’t commit them with the idea that they have be forgiven. You repent & confess & ask God to forgive you & He is quick. When you are raised out of the water that is symbolic of being resurrected with Jesus & you rise to walk in a newness of life & you will receive at least one gift of the Holy Spirit.
There is a scripture that says that Baptism does save you. It is the public proclamation & the act of a good conscience toward God that saves. Peter gave instructions to “Go into all the world & preach the gospel. Whoever believes & is baptized will be saved. Whoever does not believe is condemned. The blood of Jesus on that cross is what purifies. In fact there is a scriptures that declares that we are not bought with earthly things like gold & silver. You can web search these facts that I give you. If you can’t find some of them ask me about them & I will look them up.

  38. I commented on this above but since it popped back up I will repeat: That black figure is one of Satan’s demons. Jesus is the light of the world. Web search: Jesus said “I am the light of the world. who follow me will not walk in darkness. Those who follow me will not walk in darkness.
Also, Jesus made the perfect, never to be repeated sacrifice for our sins on the cross. There is no such place as purgatory. I have a standing offer of $100 to anyone who can show me where anyone can buy anyone’s way out of purgatory, or to anyone who can prove that there is any
such place as purgatory in the Bible.

    1. The author of Hebrews reminds his readers:

“And have you forgotten the exhortation which addresses you as sons? – ‘My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor lose courage when you are punished by him. For the Lord disciplines him whom he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.’ It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline?” (Hebrews 12:5-7).

This is the reality that you overlook when you attack Purgatory. You think that Christ’s death takes away the need for temporal punishments, but these punishments are for our own good.

In fact, if “you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons.” (Hebrews 12:8).

So rather than Jesus taking away the need for temporal punishment, Hebrews tells us that the exact opposite is true.

Without Christ, the temporal punishments due to sin would be unnecessary, since there would be no hope for salvation. If there’s no Heaven, there’s no need for Purgatory.

It is like I will give you a $100 if you find the Holy Trinity in the Bible.

Catholics look at the whole Bible and it’s interpretation is not based on one verse only.

There are many such examples of Purgatory in the Bible of which my previous post was deleted by News that Matters. So I assume it will be deleted again.

      1. Call no man on earth Father for you have one Father who is in heaven. Matt 23:9 What do Catholics think that Jesus was doing on that cross?
Jesus paid for our sins on the cross. If we repent of our sins, confess them, & be baptized in the name of the Father, the Son & the Holy Spirit, our past sins sins are forgiven. Our present & future sins are also forgiven if we do not live in deliberate sin thereafter.
What you overlook when you teach purgatory is that the scriptures clearly declare that the smallest looking sin is worthy of death in the eyes of God. The sins have to be paid for with death. Jesus took our sins upon Himself & paid for them for us on the cross. He gave the perfect, never to be repeated sacrifice on the cross. He did it for us. We have to repent of our sins, confess them to God, who the scriptures say is the only one who can forgive sin. We have to be baptized to wash away our sins. Peter said, repent & be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, & you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38 The gifts are: wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, miracles, prophecy, discerning of spirits, speak in tongues, interpreting tongues. I Cor 12:8-10. Go you, therefore, & teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, & the Holy Spirit. Matt 28:19 He that believes & is baptized shall be saved; but he that believes not shall be condemned. Matt 16:16. The like figure whereinto even baptism does also now save us (not the putting away the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience towards God I Peter 3:21

      2. Any temporal punishment that we get is here on earth. The Holy Trinity are the Father, the Son & the Holy Spirit. They may not be so named in scripture but they are a clearly visible Holy Trinity. I will let you keep your hundred. There is still no scripture that says that we are punished in a temporary place after we die. Jesus paid for our sins on that cross. In fact Peter said that: Forasmuch as you know you were not redeemed by corruptible things, as silver & gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; but by the precious blood of Christ, as the lamb without blemish.& without spot: who was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you. Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which lives & abides forever. I Peter 1; 18-20,23

    2. Hebrews 13:17 says, “Obey your leaders
and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account.
Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you.”

What is the expiration date of this verse?
When did it become okay not only to disobey the Church’s leaders, but to rebel against them.

My Church leaders is the Pope. Who is yours?

      1. My church leaders are God, Jesus & the Holy Spirit. I have nothing to do with a church whose leaders are not in harmony with those 3. The popes claim to be God. That is blasphemy. Jesus said that He is the only way to the Father. John 14:6. One pope even said that He is equal to Jesus & can change anything that Jesus said. So the pope can make a liar out of Jesus. God said that He is the same yesterday, today & forever. He is stable & does not say one thing today & another tomorrow. Jesus is stable too. His word stands forever. At Pentecost Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to represent Himself. When we get baptized we receive at least one of the gifts from the Holy Spirit. The gifts of the spirit are covered in First Corinthians Chapter 12. All 3 of them, the Father, the Savior & the Holy Spirit are in harmony. We do not get one message from one of them & another message from another. No one can change what Jesus said. You should read the book Far From Rome Near To God. It has bios of 50 priests that began to read the Bible & became Protestant Ministers. One ex priest said that he took 3 courses on the Bible without ever seeing Bible. Look at the post that I sent that is above thid. it gives info on a n ex prist & a book that he wrote telling why he became a Protestant.

  39. It is a shame that most all of the ill-informed commentators here have taken the position that Catholics “purchase” a soul’s release from purgatory. Simony has long been abolished as errant theology within the faith and has not been practiced since the middle ages whence it was officially declared anathema. The original article posted about Susan Tassone and her quest to liberate the souls who must undergo temporal punishment for their sins committed here on earth clearly stated she raised the funds for a Catholic Mass to be said on their behalf. These funds, known as stipends or offerings, are the physical currency necessary for physical and necessary elements procured for the sacrifice of the mass. The Catholic faith and its members, as the original faith before the major separations, hold true to the biblical and traditional teachings handed down by the original apostles who taught and instructed the first followers of Christ (aka the first Christians who gave their lives for their faith). Please remember, all of you bible adherents and incessant bible quoters, who it was that gave you and constructed the original bible (hint: the Catholics) and ultimately translated by whom, heaven forbid…a Catholic, St. Jerome. Not the one that has been re-worked to man’s liking and interpretation (King James, etc), but perhaps the original word of God, a Douey-Rheims.
In any case, no matter the version, even for those who discount the obvious recommendations clearly stated within Macabees, St. Paul admonishes us on numerous occasions for the living to continuously pray for our sleeping brethren, no matter what Joann B. proclaims to the contrary. Why would this be necessary if all went to eternal bliss just by making one profession of faith and gullibily believing that they’re all set for life, despite any future transgressions. Talk about misguidance and naivete.
What it all comes down to is a matter of faith. One can believe anything as our God-given freewill will allow. One can deny what has been taught from the beginning, and accept humankind’s erroneous enhancements to the Word or they can get back to their roots and read the Didache and work their way forward through the history of our written and living Word and decide for themselves.
When Christ said “Do this in remembrance of Me”, how many actually get to partake in His sacrifice in this day and age with all of the separation and removal of the incipient traditions he laid down for us to follow?
None, save the Catholics, who adhere to His authoritative teaching. And through and by his instruction, Catholics follow and adhere to what He stated, as they commemorate his actions through the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, as the bread and wine are transubstantiated into His actual body and blood to be offered to the Almighty Father on our behalf each and every time a Mass is celebrated. So please tell me what other perfect offering could possibly be made to Almighty God, than that of His only begotten Son for the expiration of our sins.
Jesus offered His life once and for all for the many, it’s true. The path to heaven has been made clear for those who follow his follow his instruction. Yet for those who think that by one profession that they have been saved, they had better re-think they will will be totally worthy and immaculate to stand in the presence of Almighty God the Father Himself with all of the tarnishments from this life on their immortal souls that they will carry with them when they depart from this life.
They will, although saved because of their recognition and acceptance of the one true Christ, be most assuredly be aware of their unworthiness and know they will need to be, as St. Paul taught, tested as through fire, (purgatory), before they will ultimately be granted admission through those pearly gates. J.M.T. May God bless you all. Let’s continue this on the other Side.

  40. Since only the soul, not the body, is in Purgatory, the suffering has to be spiritual. Descriptions of fire etc are only analogies.

In any event, while the pains of Hell are punitive, the pains of Purgatory are curative.

Therefore Purgatory is to Perfect the Soul through suffering to prepare it to meet and BE WITH GOD

Matt.5: 48 “You, therefore, must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”

Purgatory is ONLY until one is perfected and paid back ALL of the consequences of sin in their past life.

    1. Dear armorrcc

      Shalom, and love in Jesus.

Roman Catholic theology is a systematic set of religious errors. Many of them difficult to discern. Others openly anti-christian, that sets the Word of God aside. The doctrine of Purgatory is easy to brand demonic. There is no place of cleasing after death, a final praparation for Heaven, were human beings shall be cleansed and perfected from their sins. This is the Work of the blood of Jesus, sheed at Calvary Hill in Jerusalem. A man has to repent in this life. After death, only Hell awaits a non repentant sinner.

The Roman Catholic priesthodd systamtically decieve people. Many Bishops are aware of the truth. They have read the Bible. Still they are caught in a religious system, that will never be able to stand up for Jesus of the Bible. The systematic religious lies are simply to many. A Bishop has been a priest, and possibly started as an altar boy. He was sold by his family to the Church of the Pope, to serve the Pope. He gave an oath to stay loyal to the claimed “Holy father”. In this eway he traded his salvation for the doctrines and dogmas ot the man of lawlessnes. A religion that has mixed up different kinds of paganizem, and claim to be “Christianity”. Again. You need to repent, or you will surely not be cleansed in “Catholic purgatory”. But you will burn in Hell.

Unfortunaletly, it will be too late for you, to remember my warning, the day you find your self inside the eternal fire. So please repent today. While grace and mercy still can be found.

This will be the last time, you are permitted to deceive people on News That Matter. You have been given amplified warnings. Only when I see fruits of repentance, I will spend more time replying to your comments. My Last and final warning comes with Luke 16, 22 onwards:

22 ‘The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. 24 So he called to him, “Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.”

25 ‘But Abraham replied, “Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. 26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.”

27 ‘He answered, “Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family, 28 for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.”

29 ‘Abraham replied, “They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.”

30 ‘“No, father Abraham,” he said, “but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.”

31 ‘He said to him, “If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.”’

  41. to armorcc I will give &1,000 if you can show me purgatory in the Bible. The Bible clearly says that the smallest sin is worthy of death. To save us from death Jesus gave His life on the cross & paid for ours for us. He made a once & for all, perfect, never to be repeated, sacrifice for our sins. Just before He died He said, “It is finished.” The only way to God is through Jesus. God is the one who forgives sins & we approach Him in Jesus’ name. Jesus said, ” No one comes to the Father but thru me” You can pray to the saints all that you please but they are an invention of the Catholic Church. I’ll give you $1,000 if you can show me in the Bible where you can pray to Mary, or any saint. Before He was crucified, Jesus & His disciples were at what Protestants call The Lord’s Supper. He said to “Do this in memory.” It is a symbolic memorial to His death to pay for our sins.

Charles Chiniquy, an ex priest, wrote about the Catholic memorial to the Lord’s Supper. He says that he was a faithful priest for Rome for 25 years. As he read his Bible & followed the pope his agony increased He wrote a book titled 50 Years In the Church of Rome. by Charles Chiniquy. He felt awe as the pope put his hands on his head & gave him the power to convert a real wafer into the real substantial body, blood, soul & divinity of Jesus Christ. “My infallible Church placed me, not only on equal terms with my Savior & God, but above Him! Hereinafter I would not only command, but create Him. “I passed that whole day & the greater part of the night in contemplating these superhuman honors & dignities. Many times I fell on my knees to thank God for His mercies towards me.” As he began to apply his power, his struggle increased. He was to say his 1st Mass the next day & work that incomparable miracle of transubstantiation. It lasted about an hour & when finished he felt exhausted by the effort to ‘keep my mind & heart in unison.” After 25 years of bondage of Roman paganism he looks back in amazement. “To make oneself believe that he can convert a piece of bread into God requires such a supreme effort of will, & complete annihilation of intelligence, that the state of the soul, after the effort is over, is more like death than life. I had really persuaded myself that I had done the most holy & sublime action of my life, when in fact I had been guilty of the most dangerous act of idolatry! My eyes, my hands & my lips, my mouth & tongue & all my senses & intelligence were telling me that what I had seen, touched, eaten, was nothing but a wafer; but the voices of the pope & his Church were telling me that it was the real body, blood, soul & divinity of Jesus Christ. I had persuaded myself that the voices of my senses & intelligence were the voices of Satan, & that the deceitful voice of the pope was the voice of the God of Truth! Every priest of Rome must come to that strange folly.& perversity, every day of his life, to remain a priest of Rome.” How could I be guilty of such a gross act of idolatry? My only answer is the answer of the blind man in the gospel: I know not;One thing I know, that, Whereas I was blind, now I can see.
What must I do to be saved? You must confess your sins to God & repent of them. Everyone in the Bible who became a believer got baptized as soon as possible. The being immersed in water is symbolic of dying & being buried with Jesus, along with your sins, passed, present & future if you live a holy life. Being raised out of the water is symbolic of being resurrected with Jesus. You rise to a newness of life. You have put on Jesus. You will still be a sinner but you will not live in deliberate sin. Some Christians say that all that you have to do to be saved is to believe. A scripture says that if that is all that is required the devils would be saved. One scripture says that to be saved you must be baptized. Another says to go into all the world & preach the gospel to every living creature. Those who believe & are baptized will be saved. Those that refuse to believe will be condemned. God is quick to forgive those who repent & confess their sins to Him.

    1. Dear Joann Barton

      Shalom, and love in Jesus.

I have spammed Armorrcc. But if you have time to spend with endless and fruitless unepented Roman Catholics, I will permitt him to return. But it serves no purpose, If you do not spend time in replying to him. Let me know.

      1. Helo ivarfjeld:

I don’t mind being disagreed with. If I failed to check off a reply it was because I was confused. I thought that after I wrote all that that it failed to post. I was planning to come back tomorrow & try again. I have 2 Catholic grandsons that I am trying to convert so sparring with Catholics is good practice for me. If you haven’t already, why not start one on the rapture? I believe that it is really close & I am trying to put warning together to try to educate people. Now all we have to do is to accept Jesus & be raptured. But those left behind will live thru the worst that it has ever been or ever will be again & to be saved in the tribulation will risk being beheaded. Also, I am going to a Baptist Church & going the rounds trying to wake them up. They are called Baptists but they tell people that it is a good idea to be baptized but not required for salvation. all that you have to do is to ask Jesus to come into your heart & you are saved. They say that being baptized won’t save you. At least 2 scriptures say that baptism is essential to salvation. One of them told me that though I have been baptized if I had not asked Jesus to come into my heart! I was not saved!!! And the Lord’s Supper. They say that they serve it quarterly but I don’t think that they do. I have tried to tell them that our jealous God who will have no other gods before Him & will punish them that worship idols to the 4th generation, might be offended if we don’t remember the sacrifice on the cross. Satan has them blinded. I also tried to get them to warn the congregation about demons. They have started to mention them now & then but they will not warn the congregation what attracts them & they believe that they are too good of Christians to have demons. I pointed out to them that Adam & Eve walked with God, & talked with & saw God with their own eyes & they still got snookered by Satan & that Satan planted a thought in David to take a census of his army. The census was not needed but Satan convinced David to used his military without consulting God & it was a disaster. The Bible warns about demons from Genesis to the last period in Revelation but they won’t touch it. They actually teach that God has made a contract with us & because we are saved, no matter what, if we ask Jesus to come into our hearts we can live in deliberate sin & be saved! I have showed them scriptures that say that if we don’t walk in the spirit then we are not under grace, but the law. They can’t see it. I am sure that you know that the sinners prayer is not in the Bible & neither is there a scripture that asks Jesus to come into your heart & be saved. I told them of a scripture that says that if being all that you have to do to be saved is to believe then devils would be saved. They believe & tremble. lotsa love Joann

  42. The reply that I am replying is not printed here. I don’t understand your reply. You said that I mention canon law. If I did I was copying what someone else said & I don’t remember it. What I said is “I will give $100 to anyone who can show me, in the Bible, where there is a purgatory where people go to be purified so they can get into heaven. The Bible clearly says that Jesus made the perfect, once & for all, payment for our sins on the cross. It says that He is the only way by which we can be saved. We can only go to the Father (God) thru Him. God is the only one who can forgive sins. We are not bought with earthly things like silver & gold, but with the blood of Jesus on the cross. There is no purgatory in the Bible. & we cannot pray to Mary or the saints. I don’t understand what you mean about canon law. Matt 15:6 says: “In vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. Acts 4:12 says, “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is no other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved. I can supply the scripture for these. “No man comes to the Father except by me. That is Jesus speaking. A web search should bring it forth.

  43. Ivarfjeld: Thank you for giving me a chance to respond. I did not understand his/her reply. I think that he/she did not understand mine. He/she said that I mentioned canon law & he/she would respond with scripture. I think it would be nice to let him/her clarify. Joann

    1. Dear Joann Barton

      Shalom and love in Jesus.

Based on your request, I will permit Armorrcc to post comments. All the best in your work to convince him about Biblical truths.

  44. Thank you very much. Armorrcc is a sincere believer who does the best that he/she knows with the knowledge that he/she has. I can tell from my Catholic grandsons, & the pastors at the Baptist church that that I attend, that when someone has been strongly indoctrinated with untruth that they have a strong blind spot to see the truth in the scriptures. It is amazing that the priests saw the truth in the Bible but from reading the books that contain their bios, many, if not all, of them, had feelings that something was not quite right. One of the books, Far From Rome Near To God has bios of 50 priests who began reading the Bible & therefore they left the church.. The collector of the bios was also an ex priest & his bio is in the book. Gharles Chiniquy is another ex priest who wrote a book about why he left the church. That book is 50 Years in the Church of Rome. There is another book with the bios of 50 nuns who left the church. The secret of their conversions was that they began to read the Bible & when they saw how much of the teaching of the Church, not only was not in the Bible, & also what was in it is distorted by the church; it was a very hard thing for them to do but they could no longer stay. lotsa love Joann

  45. Joann
GOD has given authority to several people in the Bible. He signifies the passing of authority by changing the name of the person. Some examples are…
    1. GOD renamed Abram to Abraham when He made him the ‘Father of a Multitude of Nations’ in Gen 17:5.

    2. GOD renamed Sara to Sarah when He made her the ‘Mother of Nations’ in Gen 17:15-16.

    3. GOD renamed Jacob to Israel, the name of the Jewish Nation, and he became the first Israeli in Gen 35:10.

    4. GOD renamed Simon to Peter when He made him the head of His Church in Mt 16:18.

Peter was given the authority by GOD, and GOD renamed him to emphasize it. In Mt 16:19, Jesus Christ gave Peter even more authority.

Jesus gave him, and none other, the ‘keys to the kingdom of heaven’, and told him,

“Whatever you shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”

A lot of authority was given in these two verses to Simon, now Peter, a mere creature of GOD.

    1. #1 Dear armorrcc: I am not a Catholic hater. One person wrote a defense of purgatory & I offered $100 to anyone who can prove that purgatory in the Bible. That person responded by calling those who disagree with him/her, a Catholic hater. I responded that I would like to see the scripture that proved. The fact is that I love you very much & I believe that you write in the same spirit. I am an 85 year old great grandmother to 2 Catholic boys. God has not appointed me to be in charge of who makes it to heaven. My grandsons may be saved but some scriptures make it look iffy. I am concerned about them & therefore I am trying to get them to take a look at the results of my research between Catholic doctrine & scripture. Because of these grandsons I have collected a lot of scriptures. Sometimes I make mistakes when I reference a scripture. So please check them out & if I am ever wrong please call me on it. I know that both you & I want to spread only truth.
Well armorcc, are you ready for this??? In the scripture Matt 16:18 Peter is in the 2nd person & Jesus is in the 3rd person, He, Jesus, is the Rock in this scripture. He referred to Himself as the foundation on which He would build His Church. Here are a few scriptures that show Peter not to be a bit better than the other disciples. When the apostles heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent Peter & John to them. Acts 8:14. Should the disciples have authority to send the 1st pope anywhere? And this… As Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, & fell down at his feet, & worshiped him. But Peter took him up saying, “Stand up; I myself am a man like you. Acts 10:26,27. To the elders which are among you I exhort. I am also an elder, & a witness of Christ, & also a partaker of glory which will be revealed. I Peter 5:1. When Jesus came to Peter’s house, he saw Peter’s wife’s mother laid sick with a fever. He touched her hand & the fever left her: & she arose & ministered to them. Matt 8:14,15. See also Mark 1:29-31 & Luke 4: 38,39. If Peter was the 1st pope why can the other pope’s marry? When Paul came to Antioch, I (Paul) opposed him to his face because he was to be blamed. Gal 2:11 But when I (Paul) saw Peter, Barnabas & the other Jews walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said to Peter before them all, If you, being a Jew, & not like the Jews do, why do you compel the gentiles to live as the Jews do? Gal 2:13,14 If Peter was a pope how could Paul oppose him, & before a lot of others?
From that time forth, Jesus began to show His disciples, how He must go to Jerusalem, & suffer many things of the elders & chief priests & scribes, & be killed, & be raised again the 3rd day & Peter began to rebuke Him saying, Be it far from you Lord: this shall not be unto you. Then Jesus turned & said to Peter, Get behind me Satan: You are an offense to me: for you savor not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men. Matt 16:21-24 Eve walked with God, talked with God & saw Him face to face & Satan still snookered her. Peter walked & talked & saw the Son of God face & Satan still managed to enter Peter & fool him. We, to this day have to be very alert to make sure that we are listening to God & not to Satan. I almost lost all of this work so I wii send this & send more in #2

      1. #2 Continued from #1 Dear armorrcc: I went the rounds with a Catholic who made a big to do about traditions. In case you are heavy on traditions, I have a collection of scriptures on the subject. They draw near to me with their mouths, & honor me with their lips; but their hearts are far from me. But in vain they worship me, teaching for doctrine the commandments of men. Matt 15: 8,9 Why do you transgress the commandments of God by your traditions Matt 15:3
For laying aside the commandments of God, you hold to the traditions of men, as the washing of pots & cups; & many other such like things you do. Mark 7:8.
making the word of God no effect thru your tradition, which you have delivered. Mark 7:13 Beware lest any man spoil you thru philosophy & vain deceit, after the traditions of men, after the rudiments of the world, & not after Christ. Col 2:8 In vain they worship me, teaching for doctrine the commandments of men. For laying aside the commandments of God, you hold the traditions of men. Mark 7: 7-9. I copied this from a handwritten note & I may have not have the family name spelled right. Of celibate priests this ex priest wrote: I noticed in Genesis 2:18. It is not good that man should be alone. I will make him a help meet. Rocio P/ Zwirner Also: Paul speaks of signs of apostasy & naming one of them will be prohibiting to marry. I Tim 1:5 In naming qualifications of a bishop, Paul assumed that the candidate was married. I Tim 3:2

Here is but one example of Apostolic Succession

Psalm 109:8, “…May another take up his duties.”

Acts 1:20, “…And his ministry let another take.”

Isn’t this one verse enough to prove Apostolic Succession?

  47. Joanne
GOD, who is Himself a “Father Figure”, has always provided a human “Father Figure”, a “Chief Shepherd”, a visible leader on earth to act as a liaison between Himself and His people.

In the Old Testament, His Chief Shepherds were Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, and David, to name a few. In the New Testament, the “Father Figure”, and “Chief Shepherd”, of GOD’s people, the Church, is Saint Peter.

His successors down through the centuries are affectionately called, Papa, or let us use the Italian word meaning the same as father, the Pope.

      1. Dear Johann Barton.

        Shalom, and love in Jesus.

I admire your effort to open the eyes of Roman Catholics. Corretly you quote Matt 23:9. This is one of dozens of Bible verses, that the Pope do not believe is the truth. That is why he desire to set them a side, and he him self claiming to be “holy father”. The infallible god-man on Earth, who is the only one who can say who made it up to heaven.

    1. Jesus is the go between us & God. I write to you to sin not. If any man sins, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.. I John 2:1 Paul, speaking of Jesus: There is salvation in no one else! Under the heavens there is no one else for men to call upon. Acts 4:12 For there is one mediator between God & men, the man Jesus Christ. I Tim 2:5 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is no other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Acts 4:12 But God commands His love for us that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us. Romans 5:8. Jesus told him; I am the way, the truth & the life. No man comes to the Father except by me. John 14:6 Jesus is the door: by me if any man enter in he shall go in & out & find pasture. John 10:9 By which we are sanctified thru the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once & for all. & every priest stands daily ministering & offering , oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But this man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down on the right hand of God: forever after, expecting until His enemies were made His footstools. For by one offering He has perfected forever those that are sanctified. Hebrews 10:10-14,27 (Jesus) Who needs not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, 1st for his own sins, then for the people: for this He did once, when He offered up Himself. Hebrews 7:27. I say to you, He that enters, not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbs up some other way, the same is a thief & a robber.. But he that enters the door, is the shepherd of the sheep. Then Jesus said to them, I am the door of the sheep. I am the door: by me if any man enter he shall be saved, & shall go in & out & find pasture. But the thief comes to steal & to kill & to destroy: I have come that they may have life, & that they may have it more abundantly. I am the good shepherd: The good shepherd gives His life for His sheep. John 10:1,2,7,9,-11

  48. Keys have always been used as a symbol of power and authority for the Jews.

He who has the key can open the locked door. He who has not the key remains locked out.

The one who has the key has all authority over who enters through the locked door.

If He shuts (locks), no one can open (unlock). If He opens (unlocks), no one can shut (lock).

  49. Joanne
“And I say to thee, thou art Peter, and upon this ‘Rock’ I will build My Church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give THEE the KEYS of the Kingdom of Heaven; and whatever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in Heaven, and whatever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in Heaven.” Matt 16:18-19

Jesus Christ addressed Peter and Peter only in these two verses. He gave Peter alone, the KEYS to the Kingdom of Heaven, and the power of “Binding and Loosening” of sins, or if you prefer, the “Sacrament of Reconciliation”.

Clearly, when Jesus addressed Peter only, and at the same time gave him a name change from Simon to Peter, he had appointed Peter as the “prime” Apostle.

Later in Matt 18:18, Jesus gave the power of “Binding and Loosening” to all of the Apostles. After Jesus had risen from the dead, He appeared to all of the Apostles and again gave them the power of “Binding and Loosening” in John 20:22-23.

To further strengthen the “Primacy of Peter” Jesus addressed him only, in John 21:15-17, when He commanded him to “Feed My Sheep”.

As another example, Jesus commanded Simon-Peter to strengthen his brethren in Luke 22:31-32.

Peter acknowledged his primacy, when at the Council of Jerusalem, he stood up and said, “Brethren, you know that in early days GOD made choice among us, that through MY mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the Gospel and believe.” Acts 15:7

Peter’s statement was singular in that the truth of the Gospel would come from the primacy of the Catholic Church, and that primacy is the Papacy.

“But if thy brother sin against thee, go and show him his fault, between thee and him alone. If he listen to thee, thou hast won thy brother. But if he do not listen to thee, take with thee one or two more so that on the word of two or three witnesses every word may be confirmed. And if he refuse to hear them, appeal to the CHURCH, but if he refuse to hear even the CHURCH, let him be to thee as the heathen and the publican. Amen I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound also in Heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed also in Heaven.” Matt 18:15-18

The “Key of David”, what is the significance compared to above post?

“And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will call My servant Eliakim the son of Helcias, and I will clothe him with thy Robe, and I will strengthen him with thy Sash, and will give thy Power (authority) into his hand; and he shall be as a FATHER (the word ‘Pope’ means ‘Father’) to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Judah. And I will lay the Key of the House of David (the symbol of primacy) upon his shoulder; and he shall open and none shall shut; and he shall shut and none shall open. And I will fasten him as a peg in a Sure Place(the Papal Office), and he shall be for a Throne of glory to the house of his Father. And they shall hang upon him all the glory of his Fathers house, diverse kinds of vessels, every little vessel, from the vessels of cups even to every instrument of music.” Isaiah 22:20-24

I have explained before that the Catholic Church takes all of the Bible in context and not only one verse. (Matthew 23:9)

This verse is one of the most mis-quoted, most taken out of context, and most misunderstood by non-Catholics in all of Holy Scripture. What does this verse really say?

“Call no one on earth your father…”
Matthew 23:9, “And call no one on earth your father; for one is your father, who is in heaven.”

The meaning of that verse is, ‘no earthly father must come before your heavenly father’.

This is shown in Matthew 10:37, when He said, “He who loves ‘father’ or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me.”

If you back up to Matthew 23:1, Jesus was actually addressing the ‘crowds and His disciples’. It is clear He spoke to two groups.

If you jump to verse 8, where he said, “As for you (indicating a select group, NAB), do not be called ‘Rabbi’ (Rabbi’s are teachers, or the learned in Jewish law and the crowds mentioned in verse 1 certainly are not teachers, so He was addressing the disciples).

You have but one teacher, and you are all brothers.” (He called His disciples His “brothers” in many other Bible verses).

    1. Hello armorrcc: I am curious about how you pronounce your name.
For I testify unto every man that hears the words of prophecy of this book, if any man shall add to these things things, God shall add to him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, & out of the Holy City, & from the things that are written in this book. Rev 22:18, 19. The scripture clearly says to call no man Father for you have one Father in heaven. They were not restrained from adding the word earthly father for any reason except that it did not mean earthly father. God knew the difference between the 2 & chose to leave earthly father out. In Exodus 20:1-5, God says that He is a jealous God & will have no competition. The Catholic religion is a demon inspired religion. The demons have inspired Catholics to add a lot, like praying to saints that are not mentioned in the Bible, in fact, in the Bible we believers are called the saints;while Jesus says that He is the “ONLY” way to God, & they shred what is in the Bible, which is what caused 50 priests to leave the Catholic Church & become Protestant ministers after they read the Bible. Their bios are in the the book Far From Rome Near to God. There is another book of bios of 50 nuns who left the church after they read the Bible. WHEN “OUT OF CONTEXT” NEGATES CONTEXT THEN OUT OF CONTEXT IS WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!

    In 1Corinthians 4:14-16, Paul said,

“I am writing you this not to shame you, but to admonish you as my beloved children. Even if you should have countless guides to Christ, yet you do not have many fathers, for I became your father in Christ Jesus through the Gospel. Therefore, I urge you, be imitators of me.”

Saint Paul was a Catholic Priest.

    1. Sorry: The title of priest has never been used for any leader in the New Testament. He did not call himself a priest here & he asked them to “imitate:”himself. He was showing them the way.

      1. Joanne
        It is all about translation.
        Let’s look at Romans 15:16

The literal translation of the passage is, “to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles, ministering as a priest the gospel of God, so that [my] offering of the Gentiles may become acceptable, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.”

Not the word “minister,” but the phrase “ministering as a priest” has the Greek word for priest in it — hierourgounta is the word there, within which you can see a form of hiereus.

Thus St. Paul says that he ministers as a priest (Gk: hiereus, Latin: sacerdote), and the later Latin-speaking Christians said the same thing: Christian “presbyters” are also “sacerdotes,” “hiereoi”. This can be seen in Tertullian, for example, and you can’t really get much earlier Latin writers than him. The Greek fathers used the word “hieroi” along with “presbyteroi” to describe Christian leaders, so they bear witness to the same thing. It goes back to the Bible, and only the weirdness of linguistic development has obscured this in modern translations.

      2. Dear Joann Barton

        Shalom, and love in Jesus.

In this matter of “priests” in the New Testament, you have to correct your statement. There is no exclucive priests, like the claimed Roman Catholic priesthood. The Jewish Old Testament priesthood has been enlarged, to us all. That is why Paul in the letter to Romans, proclaim to be a priest.

        Romans 15:16Amplified Bible (AMP)
to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles. I minister as a priest the gospel of God, in order that my offering of the Gentiles may become acceptable [to Him], sanctified [made holy and set apart for His purpose] by the Holy Spirit.

Peter call us all a Royal Priesthood, as long as we accept the Messiah and the nation of Israel. There is no A team that is above others. No Catholic bishops, no cardinals and no popes.

        1 Peter 2:9
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a consecrated nation, a [special] people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies [the wonderful deeds and virtues and perfections] of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.

Judges 17:10, “Stay with me, Micha said to him. Be Father and Priest to me…”

    * Judges 18:19, “Come with us and be our Father and Priest.”

Holy Scripture itself, corrects the misconceptions and mistranslations of Matthew 23:9

  54. Hello: iverfjeld:Thanks for your explanation. This is new territory for me. I believed that armorrc was trying to convince me that Paul & a Catholic priest are alike. I could not believe that Paul meant it to be. I have no problem accepting Israel. I am very pro Israel. I am dealing with a guy who believes that Israel has taken the land from the Palestinians & though I know better I don’t know how to defend my belief. If you have good ammo for me to defend with I would appreciate it. lotsa love Joann

  55. There is evidence of purgatory. Not only in the seven books left out of the Bible, but in the writings of the holy saints and the evidence the poor souls have left behind when they come to visit the saints to ask for prayers for their release from purgatory. There is a museum in Italy displaying books and clothing completely burned through of handprints. It’s an incredible sight. It would be an impossible phenomena to fake.
As for the woman fundraising for the poor souls, I don’t believe she was taking money to “get souls out of purgatory” but for the priests who hold mass whose main income is from tithes. Mass is the most powerful tool for souls to be released from purgatory. This is why she wanted mass to be held for them.

    1. Emily. The 7 books left out of the Bible are not in tune with the ones included. The ones included in the Bible deal with the birth & ministry , & crucifixion of Jesus Christ. The Bible makes it clear that God commands us not to have anything to do with idols. I have been into several Catholic Churches & I have never seen a Catholic Church that did not have several idols in them. Read the book of Exodus Chapter 20. Jesus came & died on the cross to pay for our sins. The Bible clearly says that He made a perfect one time, never to be repeated, sacrifice to save us & it clearly repeatedly says that there is no way to the Father except thru Jesus Christ. We are told, by Jesus, & others, to pray to God in Jesus’ name. Yet the Catholic Church is loaded with idols & prayers to the saints. According to my Bible we believers in Jesus are the saints. We are told to repent of, & to confess, our sins to God, & accept Jesus as our Savior (He saved us on the cross), & to be baptized in the name of the Father, Jesus & the Holy Spirit. When we are baptized with Jesus we are given gifts of the Holy Spirit. I believe I Corinthians 12, or 13 is where the gifts of the Spirit are named. Every believer in the Bible got baptized into Jesus’ as soon as they believed. Jesus Himself got baptized. When you are baptized, being immersed into the water is symbolic with dying & being buried with Jesus. Coming out of the water is symbolic with Being resurrected with Jesus. When you have been baptized into Jesus you receive gifts of the Holy Spirit & your past sins are forgiven & all your future sins are forgiven if you are not living in deliberate sin. If you sin you confess to God & ask to be forgiven the Bible says that God is quick to forgive. When you confess then God, who the Bible says is the only one who can forgive then God is quick to forgive. Some teach that once you are saved that your salvation can never be lost. They are wrong, The scriptures clearly say that we are saved as long as we walk in, or are led by, the Holy Spirit. One scripture says that if we say that we belong to God but do not keep His commandments that we lie.

      1. Why would Jesus do all those great works in his life, convert so many people, but then not leave a church to guide them? Yes the Bible guides people too, but the Catholic church was made by Jesus to guide his people so that they properly know the truth. The Protestant religion was created by Martin Luther, who himself left the Catholic religion only because he “felt” different. He interpreted the Bible differently. Then other people started disagreeing with the Church’s teachings and decided to start other religions as well. This is where things go haywire. If there are so many denominations and alternatives to the Catholic Church’s teachings, how do you know if you are in the correct religion? Do you think Jesus would leave his people with no religion, then suddenly in the 1500s, have a man who drinks and swears and disagrees with the Church suddenly create a random religion? Do you think he meant for that to happen? Luther claims that men are not saved by works and faith but how can someone be only saved by faith? So you just say, “hey I believe in God alright well I’m saved now.” In fact the Bible even rejects it. “You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.” (James 2:24)

True ability to interpret scripture and preserve the teachings of Christ are only fully possible within the Catholic Church. This is evidenced by the wide array of Protestantism, which hold a large amount of conflicting teachings even though all claim to be interpreting the Bible correctly. Although much truth exists in other Christian religions, the only infallible truth lies within the Bible and the Traditions of the Catholic Church. If Christ had not established a teaching, living, apostolic church then how could we properly understand the doctrines of the Bible? Note that 2 Peter 1:20 says “know this first of all, that there is no prophecy of scripture that is a matter of personal interpretation”. And even the Ethiopian eunuch on his way to Damascus while trying to interpret scripture asks for Philip’s help (who is ordained as a priest in Acts 6:5). “Philip ran up and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and said, “Do you understand what you are reading?” He replied “How can I unless someone instructs me?” (Acts 8:30-31) Thus the church has the authority to properly teach the doctrines of faith for our salvation.

And the reason the Catholic Church has confession is because God uses many instruments to act out his grace. It is similar to when you get into a fight with someone you know very well and care for. When you commit sin, you are distancing yourself from God. Sin means rejection of God. When you go to confession, Jesus is present through the confessor. It’s an almost “physical” way of him being present. Confession is a way of saying you’re sorry for what you have done and ask for forgiveness. By doing penance, you are making up for the horrible things you’ve done by doing good things. You are in a way compensating for the bad you’ve done. By doing penance, it is a way of saying, “I’m so sorry. I will do anything to please you God because I love you so much.” So God asks you to go out and do good things.

Also, we don’t have idols. I don’t know where that came from. I certainly don’t pray to Mary for forgiveness. I don’t worship her. I pray to the saints in heaven sometimes so that they may help me out in my prayers. Prayer is a solemn request for help. When I pray to the saints, I am asking for them to pray for me so that they may help me. They are pure and so close to God (I mean they are in heaven for goodness sake) that they know God so much more so they have much more praying power. God can hear them easier. Remember when I talked about sin and how it is a direct rejection of God? Well if I commit sin and ask God for forgiveness, it’s harder for him to hear me because I have distanced myself. So by going to confession, pray as much as I can, and do go works (just as Jesus did), I can grow in God’s love.

      2. Hello Emily:
You need to read your Bible. The Church was started by the Jewish disciples & Paul. The books of the Bible were written by the disciples & Paul. For instance I & II Corinthians are letters that Paul wrote to the Church at Corinth. The Book of Galatians is a letter to the Galatians. Matthew, Mark, Luke & John, & other books were written by disciples that traveled with Jesus. All of the books were written by disciples that traveled with Jesus & Paul. Jesus knew that He would be crucified & He told His disciples to go to a certain place after His crucifixion, & to wait until the Comforter that He promised to send arrived. They waited there 40 days & then The Holy Spirit arrived & this is the birthday of the church. The Bible says that only God can forgive sins, You confess to God in Jesus name. Jesus, & others, say that the only way to God is thru His Son Jesus. Your penance, & most of the rest of what you write is invented by the Catholics. That is the church that they started. The church in the Bible that was started by disciples of Jesus is totally different from the one that the Catholics started. There is no need for penance. Jesus paid for our sins on the cross. We can only be forgiven by going to God in Jesus’ name.

      3. Okay your comment is everywhere and very confusing, but I’ll try my best to answer. Penance was not invented by the Catholics. Penance is mentioned in the Bible. The basis was laid out in Exodus when God set up the Levys as priests that would offer sacrifices as atonement for the transgressions yet those could not forgive sin.
The forgiveness of sin can only be achieved through the perfect sacrifice, one that we cannot offer, only Jesus can.
Also, the part where you mention that baptism is necessary for salvation would best be explained here: http://www.gty.org/resources/questions/qa79
So, you’re saying that the Catholic church that has been the basis of God’s word since the time of Jesus is fraudulent and the Church you go to, the one started by the very man who fell away from the Church and continued to curse the Pope until his death, is the one to trust? You believe Jesus would leave this earth with just a book for his people to interpret any way they wish? How do you know the correct interpretation? And yes, I agree we can only be forgiven by going to God in Jesus’ name. That’s what the Catholic church teaches. Have you read our doctrine?

      4. Dear Emily.

        Shalom, and love in Jesus.

It is not enough to pray to Jesus for forgiveness. You also have to change your ways, and leave hypocrizy, blapspehmy and double standards behind. The Roman Catholic Church has added doctrines, that contradict the scriptures. I can give your multipe examples.

      5. I believe that Joann just said that all sins are forgiven through baptism, then continued to say that if you want forgiveness then to pray to Jesus, which is contradictory and doesn’t really make sense. The Catholic Church teaches that if you want forgiveness from Jesus, you go to confession, pray whenever possible, (you can still ask for forgiveness in your heart before and after confession, that shows you are remorseful, but confession is where you are assure that you are absolved of your sins) and do penance (which is changing your ways). By putting God before all things, by being humble, and by being completely obedient, that shows you love God and will do anything for Him.

Please give examples where the Catholic Church does those things.

      6. Hello Emily: I goofed here. I meant to answer your December 9 post here. Since I have invested so much in that answer here, I will continue to answer it here. First, when you get baptized all of your past sins are forgiven but that does not prevent us from committing sins in the future. Baptism gives us a way to get our future sins forgiven. Thanks to Adam & Eve we are born with a tendency to sin & baptism does not keep us from sinning in the future. Baptism gets our future sins forgiven if we are sorry that we sinned & if we repent & confess them to God. I know some one that believes that they can commit deliberate sin with the expectation that God has promised to forgive them. Such a sin will not be forgiven. Jesus did not go thru that terrible on the cross to give us a license to sin.
The Church was born at Pentecost. A good definition of Pentecost is: Pentecost is the Christian festival celebrating the decent of the Holy Spirit on the disciples of Jesus Christ after His Ascension into heaven. Jesus told his disciples to wait for Him until the Comforter that He promised arrived. in a specific place. That comforter is the Holy Spirit which comes into all believers when they get baptized. You say that the Catholic Church is the only one who can interpret the scriptures. I will quote a lot of scriptures here.
Please explain to me any of them that I need the help of the Catholic Church to interpret.
The Church did start at Pentecost when the Holy Spirit came upon them. We are promised that this same Holy Spirit comes into us when we get baptized & when we do get baptized, we are given gifts of the Holy Spirit. Read about them in I Corinthians 12 & 13.
Martin Luther did not start the Protestant Churches. He exposed the sin the Catholic Church was committing by selling right to sin & to be forgiven for those sins before they were practiced. He just woke up a lot of people to the sins of the Church & the common people began to repent. The printing press came along to make mass production easier for everyone to own one.
Some scriptures that say that we must be baptized: We need to follow the example of Jesus. Jesus got baptized & it pleased God. When Jesus was baptized He went out of the water & the heavens opened to Him & He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove & lighting on Him. And a voice from heaven saying,”This is my beloved Son in Whom I am well pleased.” Mark 3:16:17. The like figure whereby even baptism does save us (not the putting away the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience towards God.) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ. I Peter 3:21 Each one of you must turn from sin, return to God & be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; & then you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38 Read about the gifts of the Holy Spirit in I Corinthians 12 & 13. But when they believed Philip’s preaching the things concerning Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men & women. Acts 8:12. John did baptize in the wilderness, & preach the baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. Mark 1:4. If we confess our sins, He is faithful & just to forgive our sins & to cleanse us from all unrighteousness I John 1:9. Every sin & blasphemy shall be forgiven, except blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. Matt 12:31John was baptizing in Aenon near Salim. because there was much water there: & they came & were baptized. John 3:23. And Jesus said to them, “All power is given to me in heaven & earth. Therefore go into all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, & of the Son, & of the Holy Spirit. Matt 28:18,19. Go into the world & preach the gospel to every creature. He that believes & is baptized shall be saved; but he that believes not shall be condemned. Mark 16:15,16.
Notice how all who became believers in the Bible got baptized as soon as possible. I have offered $100 to anyone who could show me one that did not. The thief on the cross does not count. In his time they were only baptizing unto repentance & he repented on the cross. Can any man forbid water that these who have received the Holy Spirit should not be baptized? 48. & he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Acts 10: 47,48 And said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” And they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ & you shall be saved, & your house.” 33 And he took them the same hour of the night, washed their stripes, & he & all his house were baptized. Acts 16:30,31.33 Except a man be born of water & the Spirit (baptized in water & receive The Holy Spirit?) he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6. That which is born of flesh is flesh That which is born of Spirit is Spirit. John 3:5,6. Don’t you know that as many as have been baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized unto His death? Therefore we are buried with Him by baptism into His death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we should walk in a newness of life. 5. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of His death, we shall be also, in the likeness of His resurrection. Romans Romans6:3,5. For you are all the children of God by faith in Jesus Christ. 27. As many of you who have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. Gal. 3:26,27. TraditionsL For laying aside the commandments of God, you hold the tradition of men, as the washing of cups & pots, & cups: & many other such things. Mark 7:8

      7. Martin Luther did start the Protestant Churches. If it weren’t for Luther, there wouldn’t be Protestant Churches today. Yes, there was some bad apples in the Catholic Church during those days, but doesn’t everyone sin? Also, it was pointless for him to even form the Lutheran Church because a meeting was held called the Council of Trent, which worked to bring the Church back onto its original path.

Also, in the Catholic teachings, it does not say you can sin all you want. By going to confession, you are asking for forgiveness. That does not mean you’re saved. You are saved by works and faith. I see confession as a way of staying pure and unstained by sin. It’s like taking a shower, or saying sorry after a fight.

“The Church did start at Pentecost when the Holy Spirit came upon them. We are promised that this same Holy Spirit comes into us when we get baptized & when we do get baptized, we are given gifts of the Holy Spirit. Read about them in I Corinthians 12 & 13.”
According to the my previous ninth grade CCD class, (please, if you could, try and specify which church you are referring to) the Catholic Church was started at Pentecost. But a question I have that you haven’t answered yet is this: How do you know for sure what you are reading is right?
As quoted from someone who converted from Protestantism to Catholicism once said, “Ask five pastors what a verse means and you will get seven different answers. Don’t worry, though — each of them prayed to the Holy Spirit and are ‘true Christians.’ So you can trust their interpretation.” There are so many different denominations that stemmed from the Catholic Church, (that has been around since the first century!) that it has just become a matter of opinion, a matter of relativism. Do you know what Catholic means? It means universal. One. Do you know how many Protestant denominations there are? 43,000.

You claim that you can only be led by the Bible, but the Bible wasn’t even put together for a very long time after Christ founded the Church. How did those early Christians know what Jesus taught before the Bible was put together? Through the Church. The way they determined which writings were divinely inspired and should be included in the Bible was based on whether the writing was consistent with the teachings of the Church.

Onto Baptism again, baptism is a lovely gift from God. In Catholic teachings, it rids us of original sin. However, if we are to sin in the future, that is what confession is for. We must live good lives, but sometimes sin separates us from God, so to become closer to Him, confession is necessary. Through confession, one is completely certain that they are forgiven. If you only pray to God for forgiveness, how do you know for sure that voice in your head is from God or not? Man is full of error. God would not leave his people to guess If they are on the right path.

“Notice how all who became believers in the Bible got baptized as soon as possible. I have offered $100 to anyone who could show me one that did not.”

Those who try to use Mark 16:16 to teach that baptism is necessary for salvation commit a common but serious mistake that is sometimes called the Negative Inference Fallacy. This is the rule to follow: “If a statement is true, we cannot assume that all negations (or opposites) of that statement are also true.” For example, the statement “a dog with brown spots is an animal” is true; however, the negative, “if a dog does not have brown spots, it is not an animal” is false. In the same way, “he who believes and is baptized will be saved” is true; however, the statement “he who believes but is not baptized will not be saved” is an unwarranted assumption.

Perhaps the most convincing refutation of the view that baptism is necessary for salvation are those who were saved apart from baptism. The penitent woman (Luke 7:37-50), the paralytic man (Matthew 9:2), the publican (Luke 18:13-14), all experienced forgiveness of sins apart from baptism. For that matter, we have no record of the apostles’ being baptized, yet Jesus pronounced them clean of their sins (John 15:3–note that the Word of God, not baptism, is what cleansed them).

The Bible also gives us an example of people who were saved before being baptized. In Acts 10:44-48, Cornelius and those with him were converted through Peter’s message. That they were saved before being baptized is evident from their reception of the Holy Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit before their baptism. Indeed, it is the fact that they had received the Holy Spirit (and hence were saved) that led Peter to baptize them.

      8. Dear Emily: I do not require that you believe like I do in order to be friends. If we were meeting in person I believe that we would be having a friendly conversation.
One Catholic poster called us Protestants, who disagreed with him/her, Catholic haters. We are not. We are concerned about your eternal salvation from the lake of fire. I give you credit that you are disagreeing with me in the same spirit. Whether you come to agree with me, or not, I still have friendly feelings towards you. lotsa love from Joann.
I disagree with you when you say that the Catholic Church was the 1st church. The Church was started by Jesus, his disciples & Paul. It’s birthday was at Pentecost where the disciples were told to wait for the Comforter (The Holy Spirit) that Jesus promised to send. When the Holy Spirit came it filled multitudes &,trusting my memory, at least 3,000 people were filled with the Holy Spirit & they ALL GOT BAPTIZED. Every new believer in the Bible got baptized right away.

The Bible was written by the disciples & Paul. Not once was the word Catholic, or pope, mentioned. Most of the teachings of the C.C. are not in the Bible, not taught by Jesus, the disciples, or Paul. The few of them that are mentioned are totally contrary to the words in the Bible..

The Catholic Church established a lot of traditions. Mark said: “For laying aside the commandments of God, you hold the traditions of men, as the washing of pots & cups: & many other such things you do. The very last words in the Bible are Revelations 22:19: “And if any man shall take away from the words of this prophesy. God shall take away his part out of the book of life, & out of the Holy City, & from the things that are written in this book. Rev. 22:19

In a previous post I sent a long list of scriptures that said that baptism does save us & a lot more that said that all who believed got baptized. The only one that did not get baptized was the thief on the cross. The only baptism before the cross was for the forgiveness of sins & the thief repented on the cross. But notice that baptism got your sins forgiven. I repeat a few here. 15. He said to them, “Go into all the world, & preach the gospel to every creature. 16. He that believes & is baptized shall be saved; but he that does not believe shall be damned.” Peter said to them: “Repent, each one of you & be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins & you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Acts 2:38. The smallest sin is worthy of death & since Adam & Eve, who walked with God, & talked with Him face to face, disobeyed & introduced us to sin, Satan & his evil demons have been tempting us to sin ever since. Most among us are not even aware that they, who hate us & want to destroy us, are constantly around us trying to lead us astray just as they did Adam & Eve. All sin, including the little white lie, which looks to many of us to be not too bad, is worthy of death in the eyes of God. It has to be paid for. So God & Jesus prepared a way out for us.
For God so loved the world that He sent His only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but shall have everlasting life. John 3:16. Jesus died that terrible death on the cross to pay for your sins & mine. There is a scripture that says that we are not purchased with worldly things like (I forget exactly but I think that it s like gold & silver. You can web search it.) That means that you could not buy your way out of purgatory even if it existed. Peter replied: “Each of you must repent of your sins & turn to God, & be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Acts 2:38. I, (Jesus), am the way the truth & the life. No one comes to the Father except thru me. John 14:6. Repent therefore, & be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord. Acts 3:19. Neither is there salvation in any other: (Jesus) for there is no other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved, Acts 4:12 ….& said to them, It is written, & thus it behooved Christ to suffer, & rise up on the 3rd day: 47. that repentance & forgiveness of sins should be preached in His name among all nations beginning at Jerusalem. Luke 24:46:47. The like figure where even Baptism does also save us, not putting away the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience towards God, by the resurrection of Jesus Christ 22 who has gone to heaven & is on the right hand of God; angels & authorities & powers being made subject to Him. I Peter 3:21 (Not by the putting away of the filth: sins are forgiven but we are still sinners & will keep having to repent & confess to God. I have to quit now. There are at least 2 other subjects that I would have liked to have mentioned. lotsa love Joann

    1. Correct. Here is more.
Revelation 21:27 “nothing imperfect will enter heaven”. And in Hebrews 12:23, the spirits of the just are made perfect.

Revelation 22:14 shows that there will be a cleansing before admission to the tree of life and entrance through the gates of the city. Where will all of this happen if not in a third place? – It is in Purgatory.

Mark 9:48 “For everyone shall be salted with fire, and every victim shall be salted.”

What fire, but the purification fire of Purgatory?

Just as the word Trinity is not in Holy Scripture, the word Purgatory is not in Holy Scripture. But by reading Holy Scripture in context the Catholic Church has determined both words – Trinity and Purgatory.
