WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama said Saturday that the killings in Afghanistan after a fundamentalist Christian U.S. preacher burned a Quran were “outrageous” while calling the desecration of the holy text an act of bigotry.
“The desecration of any holy text, including the Quran, is an act of extreme intolerance and bigotry,” Obama said in a statement released by the White House.
“However, to attack and kill innocent people in response is outrageous, and an affront to human decency and dignity,” he said.
At least 10 people have been killed and 83 injured in the southern Afghan city of Kandahar, officials said on Saturday, on a second day of violent protests over the actions of extremist Christian preacher Terry Jones, who supervised the burning of the Quran in front of about 50 people at a church in Florida on March 20, according to his website.

The burning of the Quran is wrong. I have always stated that.
Many of you who sit there and believe that burning a book is the correct thing to do should pick up the Word of God and read what Jesus Christ says on how we should treat each other, and yes that includes non-believers.
“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
I have to ask what this Christian US preacher was thinking, when he burned the quran. It was obvious that doing something like the burning of the quran would incite a riot, and worse with the death toll and injured mounting.
As a Christian myself, who is a sinner but through Jesus Christ’s mercy, saved, I have to say inciting violence is not something a Christian should think of doing. It bears repeating that clearly Christ wants us to respect each other, and a man who heads a congregation should lead according to the Word of God.
31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. 32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
Jesus Christ loves us so much, and is merciful that if we repent from our sins, he does forgive us. This should serve as an example to all of us, do not let the bitterness, and hatred of daily life get to us. Pray, and always adhere to the Word of Christ, for the kingdom of heaven is near. God Bless.
