“Texas Church” is “Temple of all Faiths”

A congregation of the United Church of Christ, Cathedral of Hope promotes one world religion and says homosexuality is not a sin.

The Cathedral of Hope is a cathedral of death.

There are five of these churches in America: Dallas, Houston, Mid-Cities, Salt Lake City, Oklahoma City.

Cathedral of Hope is a house of demons. On their website you will find a message to homosexuals: It’s okay to be gay! You will see Wedding Pictures of same-sex couples and an interfaith chapel where persons of any faith can pray.

Sin is advertised as a fun party on their website.
Same sex couples are celebrated at Cathedral of Hope.

On Cathedral of Hope’s Website it states this:

The Cathedral of Hope-Houston is a place where you can reclaim Christianity as a faith of extravagant grace, radical inclusion and relentless compassion.

If oppressive theology and rigid Biblical literalism aren’t your thing, you will find a place where you are safe to explore spirituality, not dogma. You will not be asked to check your brain at the door. We’re all about loving and accepting others like Jesus did, living as he did with a community of friends, boldly speaking truth to power, and bringing hope to a hurting world.”

A sterile-looking environment inside the interfaith chapel. It looks like an operating room.

During the Lenten season you can learn about Yoga, meditation and embrace contemplative prayer by walking a labyrinth.  You can also listen to sermons given by a Buddhist teacher who has a B.A. degree from a Protestant University, an M.A. degree from a Catholic University and a Master of Divinity from a Unitarian Universalist seminary.

There are organizations listed on their website  that this church partners with:

  • Dallas Peace Center
  • The United Nations Association
  • Maryknoll Mission
  • Peacemakers, Inc.
  • Art for peace and Justice
  • Hope for Peace and Justice

Pillows set up for worshiping Hindu gods at Cathedral of Hope church
Last year, the Houston church put on a play about a gay Jesus during the Lenten season. The play  was about a 20th century Jesus called Joshua.  The play sexualized  Jesus, having him kiss Judas at “Pontious Pilate” High School prom in one scene. In another scene, Jesus officiates at a wedding ceremony of two of His disciples – a gay marriage.
Blasphemous and lying photo of a "fake Jesus" Cathedral Hope believes in

Source: Cathedral of Hope

My Comment:

The sexualized  photo of  Jesus is beyond blasphemous. Demonic, deceiving lies are the words that come to mind . This image is straight from the devil himself.

To say that you love Jesus Christ, and then to portray him as such…is making a mockery and lie of Jesus Christ himself, the ultimate sacrifice He made by dying on the cross, God, the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Word of God.

There is no truth or peace in an inter-religious service. The Word of God is mocked and every religion has equal weight. Every religion is accepted for the sake of “peace.”

And isn’t’ this the calling card of the antichrist?  The Cathedral Hope church is full of demons and filth with the blind leading the blind.

It is indeed heartbreaking that these souls, precious to our Lord, are being taken by the hand down the road to hell.

1 Corinthians 6:11

“And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.”

By no means are we perfect, we are sinners. Without His Grace and Mercy we would be lost.

But we repent from our sins, and accept that Jesus Christ died on the cross for us. He washes us by His blood and calls us His own. The above Bible Verse proves that.

It doesn’t matter how many ways you twist a bible verse to make it into your own, God spoke it clearly when he said homosexuality is a sin. To deny what Jesus Christ states as his Word, is to deny Christ.

Leviticus 18:22

“Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable.”

Cathedral of Hope and its occupants, and every sinner on this planet will have to repent, and truly accept Jesus Christ as their Savior, in order to live with him eternally. Cathedral of Hope does not follow the Word of God, and they teach their own brand of lying doctrine.

2 Timothy 4:3

For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.

Do not be deceived by what men tell you. Read the Word of God. The Coming of Christ is truly near, and with Him judgment!

And unless you repent, the absolute truth is you will spend eternity in hell.

Our human mind cannot grasp what eternity is, but as is God’s word is the complete truth, unless you ask forgiveness and follow the Only King Jesus Christ from the Holy Bible, the Lake of Fire is where you will reside forever.

Revelation 20:9-15

Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

  1. A scary sign of the times in which we live! Churches like this are popping up everywhere, and their subjects are dominating various Christian forums in an effort to spread the false doctrine. Sad, but true. I post scripture in the forums as well, and am persecuted, and told that my beliefs don’t match everyone else.

I have to laugh when someone says that. Scripture is not my belief, it is GOD’s word. How these people can be so deluded is beyond me. I pray for them, and when they are hostile with me, I simply tell them that I have just as much right to spread the truth as they do a lie. It’s one thing to risk your own soul, but when you deceive others, someone has to stand up!

People need to remember that GOD doesn’t make deals, He does not change– and those who believe otherwise are in for a rude awakening!

Great article, Gloria and Sue… I will definitely share this one! 🙂

    1. Missy,

My Comment: This is a sad case. This world is filled with people who twist the Word of God and follow their own doctrine.

You said: I post scripture in the forums as well, and am persecuted, and told that my beliefs don’t match everyone else.

My Comment: I once saw an article on CNN about a little boy who was hearing someone to kill himself. He was about my child’s age. I posted the Word of God in hopes that the mother saw that this child was being bothered by demons, and she needed to see a true believer of Jesus christ, to cast this demon out. I was called crazy, and a host of other names. That is fine. I’m okay with that 🙂 Because the most important part for me was that the mother realize that only Jesus Christ could help her son.

      God Bless you Missy,

      Gloria

    1. 4hollyg,

This is very disturbing, in that not only do they continue to sin and don’t repent, but they take the Word of God, twisting it-branding it as their own, and essentially saying “yes God is okay with this.”

      1. what makes me really worry is that they are starting to say things like,” well if your God doesnt accept me for the way i truly am, the way i wasborn, then he is no longer my God.” if only they would see how much God really loves them! they do not realize that Jesus gave his life up for them, for the life they appear not to cherish!
so many prayers are headed their way!

i love everyone of my brothers and sisters, homo or not.

        in Christ, ~dashti~

      2. Dashti,

Jesus Christ died on the cross for all of our sins, because he loves us that much. But we have to repent from those sins, and accept his salvation.

God’s Words never change. If the people of this world, do not repent from their sins, they will perish. It is with love I tell you this.

Mark 13:31 “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.”

  2. The days of taking some men out behind the barn for a good thrashing is no more, for their blasphemy. (Women play as much a part in this blasphemy as do the men).
And people still go to the poles like blinded sheep thinking they can change anything! These people they are voting for either were in office or is in office. It is the same with the leaders of many church’s they too have found it is far more beneficial to get in bed with the powers that be and lead the sheep to the slaughter while they play and claim to be ‘The Leaders of The Faith’.. They have prostituted themselves for the blood of the sheep they try to convince is of God… Listen ….sshhh ..you can hear the Gates of Hell opening wider for the multitude that follows these who have chosen the ways of Baal!

    1. Andrea,

For clarification when I say “men” I mean mankind. Yes, women play just as much a part in this blasphemy as men.

The leader of this world is satan, but when Christ comes with great Power and Glory, all who have rejected Christ will face his judgment.

    2. Amen to that andrea
Americans believers have bought into the worlds philosophys. They think that if they vote good moral conservatives things will get better. Legislating morality does not make people become moral. Even the written Law of God was unable to make man good. It made man sin more. The only answer to America’s is Jesus. It is the power of the gospel that saves and the spirit of Christ living in those who believe that makes people think and act rightly. as my good brother Ivar has said.. It amazes me how political many of the church leaders have become. They have forsaken the
true message and that is Christ crucified. They like the the greasing they get from lobbiest and politicians. It gives them a nice lifestyle. They are like a brood of vipers. This maybe the first time in my life that I don’t vote.Remember sister
we are aliens and stangers here. Our citezenship is in heaven and we eagerly await a savior from there who will transform our lowly bbodies into glorious ones. Hold things loosley. keep things in the right prospective. People need the Lord

  3. This should not discourage anyone, this should encourage you, it’s almost time to go home! 😀

    Work harder, work faster…

2Ti 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
    2Ti 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
2Ti 4:4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
2Ti 4:5 But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

  4. I find this church very refreshing in a day and age where we can’t even respect our neighbors. When there are “preachers” who have the audacity to burn the holy scriptures from their neighbors like Terry Jones did, I’m all for respect.
I would love a church like this in my neighborhood that reminds me of Jesus’ Samaritan parable. We can tend to our neighbors and not forget who we are. Being hospitable is not a sin. Yelling at others because of how God made them and telling them they are going to a supposed hell is far from how Jesus talked to others.
Way to go Cathedral of Hope!

    1. Jennifer,

This church is saying God is okay with you being a homosexual. That is a complete lie. Do you know why?

“Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived, neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.” (1 Corinthians 6:9-11)

And if all who accepts these sins, they too will be judged in front of Our King Jesus Christ. Pick up the Word of God. It is not too late to accept Jesus.

And FYI: Being hospitable is not a sin. But accepting the sins listed in (1 Corinthians 6:9-11), and not repenting is.

      1. Now wait a minute…

Two grown, consenting adults who love one another and are of same sex do not even fit in to this category.

Do you know that the word homosexual was not even a word at the time this was written? Yet we have re-written it to read just that.

      2. Stephanie,

The word “homosexual” is not found in Leviticus. But what God still said in the beginning stands till the end of time.

Leviticus 18:22 – “Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable.”

Leviticus 20:13 – “If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.”

I pray that you and other see this, and repent from your sins, for the Kingdom of God is truly near.

      3. Gloria-

So if you believe in the verses that you just sited to me…..

Leviticus 20:13 – “If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.”

Are you for putting homosexuals to death?

      4. Dear Stephanie

        Shalom.

I know you asked Gloria, but I feel like replying. If you had been a homosexual Jew 3.000 years ago, you would be put to death. So not all the Jews would have been led astray, and the Jewish tribes would have perished. Homosexuals can not produce children. Not so strange, sins this kind of sexuality is a sin against the creation order.

Jesus abolished death penalty. The woman caught in adultery, was set free from her sins. Jesus said: Sin no more. Tell a homosexual likewise. Pray for them that they will fall in love with a woman, and get a deeply desire for having sex with a properly married wife. Such prayers are pleasing Jesus.

      5. Amen Ivar!

To: Stephanie Jesus did abolish the death penalty.

It still stands, that when Jesus Christ comes with great power and glory, everyone who does not accept his salvation and repents, will be judged by Our King. It is not too late, Stephanie.

I have to ask what do you think of this verse: 1 Corinthians 6 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

    2. Hello Jennifer,

Gloria is absolutely right, and furthermore Jesus does not create people as homosexuals, just as he does not create people as thieves, murderers, or boasters. Yes, we are born into this world sinful, but we are not permanently bound to this sin, for the Blood of Christ frees us from it. You also said that Jesus did not warn sinners of the consequence,

      Matthew 10:28
Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

      Matthew 5:30
And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.

These are just a couple of examples, as there are many more throughout scripture. Hell is not a threat, to those who do not turn to Jesus and repent, but quite the opposite. Eternal life is a gift offered to all that are willing to accept it, and be cleansed by the Blood. The wage for sin, after all, is eternal death; destruction in the lake of fire that is to come.

      Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

So to conclude, I find nothing refreshing about this church at all, but rather a common example of the increasing apostasy that is spreading throughout Christian churches today. It does not anger me, but rather causes me grief, and so I pray day after day that people flee from Mother Babylon and her harlot daughters, and find themselves in the true church of Jesus.

      1. Stephanie,

        God created Adam and Eve.

        Genesis 2

        23 The man said,

“This is now bone of my bones
        and flesh of my flesh;
        she shall be called ‘woman,’
for she was taken out of man.”

24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.

That in itself should answer your doubts and question that God Our Creator made man and woman to become one flesh.

      2. Gloria-

And if only Adam and Eve were made and only male and female were made, what would you say to the person who is born both male and female?

Is it ever an option or possibility that this one story of Adam and Eve does not apply to ever single person in the world? Is it ever an option that it could have applied to people then? Or perhaps it’s just a story drawn up from someone’s opinion or perspective of how they saw it?

Or is this an absolute way of how things are suppose to be? Because if that’s the case, I don’t know what you would tell the person who is born both male and female.

Or what about the person who vows not to marry? Are they wrong because they didn’t leave their mother and father to join their husband or wife in marriage?

        No, of course not.

No doubt there are exceptions for these situations, right?

      3. Stephanie,

You asked: And if only Adam and Eve were made and only male and female were made, what would you say to the person who is born both male and female?

My Comment: If I remember correctly, I think I read or seen an interview on this, and I remember thinking, if the baby is born with both male and female parts, there are tests that can be done to know if the baby has female or male parts inwardly.

You said: Is it ever an option or possibility that this one story of Adam and Eve does not apply to ever single person in the world? Is it ever an option that it could have applied to people then? Or perhaps it’s just a story drawn up from someone’s opinion or perspective of how they saw it?

My Comment: You remind me of a bible verse: 2 Peter 3:3-4 Knowing this first of all, that scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own sinful desires. They will say, “Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation.”

Your Comment: Or is this an absolute way of how things are suppose to be? Because if that’s the case, I don’t know what you would tell the person who is born both male and female.

My Comment: Have you ever given everything you had and placed it in God’s hand? It is a beautiful thing trusting the Lord Jesus Christ, Stephanie. I have with my own children, and He the creator of everything, knows how to take care of us.

Your Comment: Or what about the person who vows not to marry? Are they wrong because they didn’t leave their mother and father to join their husband or wife in marriage?

        My Comment: 1 Corinthians 7
        Concerning Married Life
1 Now for the matters you wrote about: “It is good for a man not to have sexual relations with a woman.” 2 But since sexual immorality is occurring, each man should have sexual relations with his own wife, and each woman with her own husband.

    3. Dear Jennifer

      Shalom.

      My comment:

If your neighbor is a pedophile, who wants to touch your children, do you still wants to invite him for dinner?

If you neighbor calls him self a “priest” opens a “Church” and starts to rape your son behind the alter, will you still rejoice?

People who find perversions so “refreshing”, needs to take a deep look in the mirror.

    4. Right on and way to go Jennifer! Thanks for posting. You are quite insightful. If you are ever in Dallas, please come to Cathedral of Hope. We’ll give you a personal tour. Last week we even gave a tour to a young man from Dallas Theological Seminary. We have room for all kinds of interfaith people. The Holy Spirit is alive and well. On Wednesdays at 6:16 we’re learning about the metaphysics of Jesus and some amazing Ancient Hebrew translations and symbols. Take care!

      1. Dear Charlie.

Shalom, and welcome to this site.

If I come to Dallas I would accept your invitation to the Cathedral of Hope. I would love to preach there. I would preach the gospel of Jesus, and tell everyone to repent or perish. If we delete sin as the problem between man and God, we become deceivers. We deceive our selves, and all who listen to us.

I hope and pray that all who come to the Cathedral of Hope shall repent, and be found in the Kingdom of Heaven. Because if you continue to embrace and preach falsehood, you will all face judgment by Jesus, and be cast into the flames of Hell.

It is your choice. Be wise. Obey the World of God, and renounce your evil work of darkness.

      2. I’m sure there is a spirit alive and well there… but it’s not one of GOD. It’s one of deception, and if you continue to follow it… as Ivar said, you will stand before the Judgement Seat of Christ, and answer for the deception.

I pray that you repent, and come into the true light of GOD.

      3. Thanks Charlie! If I find myself down there one day, I will definitely make a trip there.
I’m super interested in the metaphysics of Jesus and symbols. I’m trying now to get a better understanding of this. Glad to know others are also! Keep up the great work!

And on a side note, I appreciate other comments. While I highly disagree with the interpretations, I do want to say that just one thing. When Christ was asked about all the sins and what is commanded of his disciples, the answer was simple. We are to love God with all our heart and our neighbors as ourselves. To me, all those divisive issues we try to put labels on, I am called to love. Plain and simple (but sometimes just so darned difficult) just love. I find Cathedral of Hope is doing this greatest command in a truly God-filled way.

      4. Jennifer,

You said: When Christ was asked about all the sins and what is commanded of his disciples, the answer was simple. We are to love God with all our heart and our neighbors as ourselves.

My Comment: Please show me where I’ve or others have said “to hate anyone.” That is not what we have stated here, because if we did then we would be on our way to the wide gates of hell.

Our point with you and this Texas church is, you preach that Jesus loves everyone and he does because he died on the cross for all, if we come to repent our sins and accept him.

BUT there is no way and the Bible is clear on this, that homosexuals and all sinners will enter heaven, unless they repent. Jesus Christ said it, and his Word stands for eternity.

DO NOT take God’s Word and twist it into your own, thinking it the truth. Because it can be anyone’s downfall in the end, if they do not see the truth in God’s word.

        Revelation 21

6 He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. 7 Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children. 8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”

    5. Amen Jennifer!

      And might I add.

The “calling card” is that of Jesus, not of the Anti-Christ or Satan.

Jesus is the king of peace. Jesus calls for unity from all of us all throughout his teachings, in one form or another.

Jesus gave us one very important command. One that would cover all others……

      Love.

      Simple. Yet complicated.

God forgive us for casting stones at our neighbors. Help to take our eyes off others and put them on to our own hearts. Help us remove any logs of fear and hate that we have dwelling withing us so that we may make room for love and learn how to follow the one thing you commanded us to do.

      Amen.

  5. I hope you all enjoy that lobster you like so much. Eating that is a “sin” as well, or did you just overlook that when you were picking and choosing which parts of the bible to believe?
That book is no more literal truth than is Grimm’s Fairytales. Both are simply meant to be guides.

    1. Dear B.

Shalom, and welcome to this site.

      You wrote:

      My comment:

Lobster? Is it a sin to eat a large piece, or can we eat a smaller one? This kind of comments amounts to a “super revelation”. You have to show we what kind of Bible verses you have found.

    2. I believe you are referring to Levitical law, regarding clean and unclean foods.

      Leviticus 11:9-12
Of all the creatures living in the water of the seas and the streams, you may eat any that have fins and scales. But all creatures in the seas or streams that do not have fins and scales—whether among all the swarming things or among all the other living creatures in the water—you are to detest. And since you are to detest them, you must not eat their meat and you must detest their carcasses. Anything living in the water that does not have fins and scales is to be detestable to you.

I myself, do abstain from foods such as shellfish and pork, not simply because they are denounced as unclean, but because doing so keeps my body a clean temple for God.

  6. The book of Revelation says that there will be many false prophets in the last days. Judging by some of the comments made in this thread (i. e. you either agree with me or you will perish if you do not), that passage of scripture is clearly alive and well. The scriptures also say “judge not, lest ye be judged.” I guess most of you folks decided to opt out of that passage. Most other fundamentalist christians do as well.

    1. The law of Christ is far superior to any and all Levitical law. The law of Christ is summed up in two comandments. To love the Lord your God with all you heart, soul, and mind, and to love your neighbor. All the other commandments rest on these two. These were the words of Jesus. Were the spirit of Christ is there is liberty

    2. James,

By stating what the Bible clear says about sin, how are we judging?

Mark 16:15 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.

As a Christian, how can someone sit by and not say anything about sin? We are here to help others see that Jesus Christ is coming with great power and glory, and will bring judgment to all those who do not accept his salvation.

      1. HI, about judging, we are to use scripture to show them their false teaching. we are to tell them three times, and then if they refuse the truth, G-d says, from such turn away…shalom

      2. Easy, Gloria. It’s called “minding your own business”. Why don’t you get your own sin under control, and then worry about others’ sin? Did you ever stop to think about that? Sounds like you haven’t.

      3. James the reason we have messes like this in the body are because of inaction. 1 Corinthians is a whole letter dedicated to a church body living in the flesh and he addresses them tolerating sin to happen in their church body. Paul rebukes them all and tells them to cast out the guy committing adultery with his fathers wife, they knew exactly what this guy was doing and did nothing about it. Paul explains that we are to judge within the body but in an orderly fashion and in love, it’s unbelievers that we don’t judge because they’re already condemned. Rebuking, reproving, and exhortation is where we keep each other in Truth. But everything is done out of love. Notice however how Paul speaks to the church, you can see the love and passion he has for them even though they are living out of the flesh and even edifies them.

I see what you’re getting at though because a lot of the time we Christians are vile and nasty to each other when these issues come up and we condemn ourselves. It just doesn’t sit right when we’re judging each other out of pride, envy, hate and jealousy. It has soured the palettes of many Christians causing blow back to judging. In a sense, Two wrongs don’t make a right. We just have to love each other more, it really is all about LOVE!

      4. James,

We who believe in the Lord are not here to “mind our own business” when comes to Jesus Christ.

You are correct. I am a sinner, but saved by the blood of Jesus Christ our Savior. But I would help no one, if I sat here and “minded my own business” instead of preaching God’s saving word.

It is so easy for people to throw the word “judging” around. I 100% agree that only Jesus can judge us. But I also believe:

Mark 16:15 “And He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.’”

        God Bless,

        Gloria

      5. Dear Gloria.

        Shalom,and love in Jesus.

Good to see you back, ministering on News That Matters.

      6. Good Afternoon Ivar,

It’s been a tough few years, with elderly parents. But recently (on my birthday) my Dad who has served the Lord for over 50 years went home to be with our Savior.

Hope all is well with you. God Bless.

        Gloria

      7. Dear Gloria.

        Shalom and love in Jesus.

We all have to go through ruff times in life. But Jesus has made a way to heaven, for all who believe, rely on Him, trust and obey Him. Blessing to you, and your family.

  7. As a member of the Cathedral of Hope and Facilitator for the Cathedral Business Network I am constantly surprised and amazed at the power of this church to reach out to others in the community and provide a variety of real assistance, food, clothing, school supplies and more as a “shepherd looking after His flock”. There is nothing evil, dirty or corrupt about this wonderful church. It is doing God’s work and doing it the same way Jesus did through acceptance, inclusion and generosity. I’m proud to be associated with this wonderful institution which has continued to grow for over forty years. Check out the website and you will find exactly what was stated in the article a church “of extravagant grace, radical inclusion and relentless compassion.” How many can say that about their churches.

    1. Dear Greg.

Welcome to this site and thank you for the comment.
I don’t doubt there are loving people at your church who freely give to others. I don’t doubt and applaud giving to the needy and to the poor. That is all wonderful and good.
But interfaith prayer is not following in the example of Jesus. We are warned not to be yoked with unbelievers.

      2 Corinthians 6:14
Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?

Buddhists and Hindus pray to false gods, and Hope Cathedral welcomes these practices among believers. This is not right and it is not the gospel. These people need to be told the gospel, not given pillows to bow down on their knees to false gods. In doing that H. C. is condoning false religions.

I don’t think homosexuality is the worst sin there ever was. Sinning against the Holy Spirit is the unforgivable worst sin. People engaging in fornication is engaging in sin..whether you are ‘gay’ or straight. You cant commit adultery, fool around out of wedlock, hook up with people and commit impure sexual acts. Marriage is holy and good and sexuality was the divine bait to populate the world for His glory

. In scripture it is clear that a man shall not lie down with a man, but H.C. says there is nothing wrong with it. H.C. is lying to it’s members and keeping souls in spiritual bondage to sexual sin. To love people is to tell them the truth, even if it hurts

. When a person gets a cut, the wound must be cleaned with alcohol to get out the dirt and infection, and then it can heal. In the same manner, people engaging in sexual sins need to be cleaned by the blood of Christ and the truth of the gospel, even if it hurts. For then true healing can take place.

I want you to know I write this in a spirit of love to you. You are precious to Him as all those in H.C. church. I pray the Gospel will be preached there and those in bondage will be set free and delivered of false gods and the bondage of sexual sin. I am no better than you or anyone at that church. I have been saved by Grace and nothing of myself. The truth is in the Word. May it be preached to all, and set hearts free.
      In Him,
      Sue

    2. Gregg,

How can your congregation say the love Jesus, but continue to sin, and not care? With all due respect, but you do not follow the Jesus of the bible. Jesus clearly states what he thinks of sin in his Word.

(I John 3:4) 4 Everyone who sins also commits lawlessness. Sin is lawlessness.

Am I a sinner? Of course, I am. And I’ve accepted the salvation of Jesus Christ, and I repent and continue to ask for forgiveness. The difference between me and you, is I make mistakes, but I repent and adhere and follow the Word of God.

Your congregation twists the Word of God, and does not repent from their sin. I pray you and the church realize there mistake, because Jesus Christ is coming soon…very soon.

It is with love I tell you, and more importantly Jesus Christ tells you: Luke 13:3) 3 I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all perish in the same way.

    3. Gregg, it is sad but many people are not interested in knowing the ACTUAL truth! I, too, love our church! Let’s keeping doing what Mother Theresa suggested: “No more words! Let them see what we DO!”

      1. Dear Marcus.

Thank you for your comment and welcome.
We are blessed to have visitors from Hope Cathedral Church.
What is the actual truth you are speaking of?

        In Him.
        Sue

      2. Marcus.

        You said:
Let’s keeping doing what Mother Theresa suggested: “No more words! Let them see what we DO!”
        My Comment:
Salvation is not what you DO, it is all about what He has DONE. None of your good works will save you or me. You can not earn salvation, including Mother Teresa.
Put your faith in His atonement alone. Your salvation will bring forth good works, but you can’t DO good works to be saved.
        In Him.
        Sue

      3. Marcus,

The Word of God is the actual truth.

Matthew 24:35 says: Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

Marcus, it is not too late too repent, and truly accept Jesus Christ.

  8. Why is a group of believers who think about God differently and spirituality in a different way so frightening and threatening? We should not brand a group of Christians as “Demonic”. There are groups of people throughout the world who say the same things about us.

    1. Hi Mark,

Welcome to this site and thank you for your comment.

Mark, Hindus and Buddhists are not believers. They believe in false gods, not Jesus the Messiah who came to fulfill the Scriptures and rescue them from sin and the worship of gods.
For H.C. to tell it’s congregation that homosexuality is not sin and that you can marry is not telling the truth. Hope Church is also condoning the worship of false gods by supplying it’s members with pillows to kneel down and worship them.
The apostles would never allow this, and these members would be kicked out if they did not repent and follow the gospel.
I love you Mark, and that is why I tell you the truth. If we didn’t care about you and your members we would be silent.

      In Him.
      Sue

  9. Amen Gregg. I grew up in the Southern Baptist church and was told God didn’t love me because I was homosexual and that I was going to Hell as a consequence. I left the Southern Baptist church and considered becoming agnostic for many years after I couldn’t find a church that accepted and loved me. Then I found Cathedral of Hope in 1997 and have been a member there ever since. At Cathedral of Hope, I learned God DOES love me. I found a place where I could worship God and follow Jesus. No other church offered that to me. I repeat: No Other Church Offered That To Me!

To the writers of this blog: I didn’t choose my sexual orientation and I’ve been homosexual as long as I could remember. I couldn’t change my sexual orientation (God knows I tried with many hours of prayer) and, after 30 years of prayer, God wouldn’t change it either. I know that God knew me before I was born and God does not make mistakes.

Like modern-day legalistic Pharisees, your article and responses to comments cite excerpts of English-translation scripture as though God wrote every English word (obviously, God didn’t). There is enough evidence to question traditional translations of scripture that have been used to condemn homosexuality. To use excerpts of scripture to condemn and persecute others is the same type of legalism Jesus was against in many of his arguments with the Pharisees. When folks pick and choose excerpts of scripture to judge and oppress others, they lose sight of what Jesus said:

Matthew 22:36-40: 36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” 37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Further scripture on legalistic use of scripture against others:

Galatians 2: 15 “We who are Jews by birth and not sinful Gentiles 16 know that a person is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in[d] Christ and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law no one will be justified.

17 “But if, in seeking to be justified in Christ, we Jews find ourselves also among the sinners, doesn’t that mean that Christ promotes sin? Absolutely not! 18 If I rebuild what I destroyed, then I really would be a lawbreaker.

19 “For through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God. 20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. 21 I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!”

Galatians 3: 26 So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, 27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

I worship God. I accept Jesus Christ as my savior. I was Baptized into Christ. I know He died for my sins. And I follow Jesus in everything I do. I’m a sinner, like you are, and I repent for my sins and ask for forgiveness. I do not repent for being a homosexual because that is beyond my control and, in fact, who God made me to be. I know that God will not change my sexual orientation no more than change my eye color.

Jesus said nothing of homosexuality (but had plenty to say about judging others …[he who is without sin may cast the first stone …for ex]). As Galatians 3:28 states we are all one in Christ Jesus. There is no difference between Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male or female. It is not a sin for a Christian to love someone else of the same gender for we are all One in Christ. Just as I don’t use the Bible to stone to death someone for working on the Sabbath, neither should others cast stones at God’s homosexual children for loving someone else of the same gender.

History is full of examples of self-assured folks who knew without a doubt they had all of God’s answers and were justified in condemning others who believed differently (just ask Galilleo, for example). If you truly believe homosexuality is wrong, that’s your right, of course. Just don’t try to be judge and jury against those of us who follow Jesus, yet disagree with your theology. God’s truth and wisdom can not be condensed into a bunch of pages containing English translation words. I believe God is still speaking …to those who will listen.

    1. Michael,

You said: I grew up in the Southern Baptist church and was told God didn’t love me because I was homosexual and that I was going to Hell as a consequence.

My Comment: It is because Jesus loves you so much that he died for your sins. It is very true that unless you repent from your sins, as well as everyone who continue to live without accepting Jesus truly, they will die in their sins. The Word of God does not change.

John 9:41 Jesus said to them, ““If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, ‘We see.’ Therefore your sin remains.”

You said: To the writers of this blog: I didn’t choose my sexual orientation and I’ve been homosexual as long as I could remember. I couldn’t change my sexual orientation (God knows I tried with many hours of prayer) and, after 30 years of prayer, God wouldn’t change it either. I know that God knew me before I was born and God does not make mistakes.

My Comment: With all due respect Michael, God created Adam and Eve, man and woman. You say you didn’t choose your sexual orientation, and that is a lie from the devil himself. The Word of God does not lie.

Leviticus 18:22 – “Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable.”

You use Matthew 22:36-40 to explain how we should love each other. And to those who say they hate you, they sin just as well. Because a believer in Christ should not ever hate anyone.

You said: Jesus said nothing of homosexuality (but had plenty to say about judging others …[he who is without sin may cast the first stone …for ex]).

My Comment: Jesus had plenty to say about sexually immoral.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 – “Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.” (NIV).

Ephesians 5:5 For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.

Do not use the Word of God, twisting it and making it yours. The Word of God has nor will ever change.

    2. Dear Michael B.

      Shalom, and love in Jesus.

      You wrote:

Amen Gregg. I grew up in the Southern Baptist church and was told God didn’t love me because I was homosexual and that I was going to Hell as a consequence.

      My reply:

You should not have left this Church. Simply because you were told the truth. But not only homosexuals will end up in Hell. All people who do not repent from their sins, and let Jesus change them will perish. I pray He will give you dreams and visions of a beautiful woman. And that you see your self marrying her, and having a lot of good sex with her. In Jesus name. Amen.

    3. oh no, God does love you! he would just rather see you will a nice holy woman because the love from your opposite gender is so much more complete than from your same gender. he may not be happy with your choice of lifestyle, but he will always love you no matter what!

  10. Gloria-

This is in response to Adam, Eve, male, female and those born with both and female parts conversation we’ve been having.

I’m not going to copy everthing that has been said so I will just say this, in order to keep it simple.

As for your comment about the scoffer. I don’t appreciate you insinuating that I’m scoffing simply because I challenged you with questions.

Jesus challenged and asked some questions just as well. I think the only ones who were insinuating that he was scoffing were the Pharisees.

Would you honestly tell someone who was born with both female and male body parts to place everything they have in the hands of Christ and just trust? I might encourage them to do just the same. But what if they do just this and God tells them it’s ok to be both because God made them that way. Would YOU be ok with that?

See, the bible doesn’t speak on things like this. That’s my point. It doesn’t have every answer to ever situation and although it gives many answers, it also gives many DIFFERENT answers. There is a lot of great and wonderful things in the bible, but when we get to a point that we are worshiping the bible more than the ways of Jesus, perhaps we should take a hard look at that.

I don’t think I have anything further to say here in this place because it’s very evident that you live in the words of the bible alone and all things will be argued with the bible alone….or insults.

So I leave you with this. If you insist on limiting God to the bible and the bible alone, aren’t you placing God in a box, with limitations? Aren’t you saying that God has stopped speaking and no other great and new things can happen because it’s all right there in the bible? You’re saying that there is no more growing to do because all the growing was completed in the bible.

Seems like we might be missing a great deal of God’s goodness if we insist on doing this.

    Peace to all.

    1. Stephanie,

You said: As for your comment about the scoffer. I don’t appreciate you insinuating that I’m scoffing simply because I challenged you with questions.

My Comment: But your doing exactly that, but twisting God’s words around, and challenging what Our Creator wrote.

Your Comment: Would you honestly tell someone who was born with both female and male body parts to place everything they have in the hands of Christ and just trust? I might encourage them to do just the same. But what if they do just this and God tells them it’s ok to be both because God made them that way.

My Comment: What of the children who are born with Aids? Would you not pray for them and ask Christ to heal them?

Your Comment: I don’t think I have anything further to say here in this place because it’s very evident that you live in the words of the bible alone and all things will be argued with the bible alone….or insults.

My Comment: Scoffer was not meant to be an insult, but questioning and twisting God’s Word is an affront to Jesus. I do apologize if I have offended you, but I speak from God’s Word, and his word is the truth.

Your Comment: Seems like we might be missing a great deal of God’s goodness if we insist on doing this.

My comment: This is what those who do not repent are missing out on. Corinthians 2:9 However, as it is written: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him”–

    2. Hi Stephanie,

You made an excellent point in saying:
Would you honestly tell someone who was born with both female and male body parts to place everything they have in the hands of Christ and just trust? I might encourage them to do just the same. But what if they do just this and God tells them it’s ok to be both because God made them that way. Would YOU be ok with that?

      My comment:
I have had this conversation with my husband about this very topic and have seen heartbreaking documentaries on this that made me cry. There is no black and white on a case like this except I think the truth of their gender will and does make itself known internally as they grow through puberty. This is a case where hormones, biology and spiritual searching is needed. Even in these situations a clear path can be made. But it is not easy and one I do not even try to say has easy answers or remedies. It is a hellish trial that I could never comprehend.

  11. Gloria-

You asked me a question after I wrote my last comment but I want to answer.

What do I think of Corinthians 6:9.

I think you’re twisting it into what you wish it to say. I think it says a whole other thing that you will not understand unless you’re willing to open yourself up to possibilities and rid yourselves of the absolutes you swear by.

As to the link you asked me to look at. I think that’s beautiful. No doubt that person is experiencing some wonderful freedom and joy. I know God and Jesus have changed my life.

I also know that things are different for each and every person. Everyone’s faith experience is different and we shouldn’t discredit them or act as if they are less or wrong.

It is arrogant and prideful to think we have all the right answers.

    We do not.

    1. Stephanie,

You said: I think you’re twisting it into what you wish it to say. I think it says a whole other thing that you will not understand unless you’re willing to open yourself up to possibilities and rid yourselves of the absolutes you swear by.

My Comment: But don’t you see Stephanie? These are God’s own Words and it’s pretty straight to the point.

1 Corinthians 6:9 9 Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men[a] 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

How can there be another explanation? God’s Word has never changed nor will.

I would never have the correct answers, Stephanie. But Jesus always does.

Matthew 24:35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

  12. Again, you insinuate that I do not love Jesus and you insinuate that I am the one who is missing out and that I am the one who has it all wrong.

    What if…..

    1. Matthew 21:21 Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done.

  13. This comment is for all who practice/defend homosexuality and claim the Bible condones it.
I testify, by the power of God, there is freedom from this bondage. Homosexuality is sin, as is all sexual activity outside the covenant of marriage.

I know this because God has set me free from this bondage.

I encourage those who condone and defend homosexuality to stop covering up your sin, for it is an abomination to the Lord (Lev.18:22). Please read what I have to say, for the words and understanding are not my own.
The Lord Jesus spoke out against homosexuality in Matt.15:19, “for out of the heart (gr. kardia meaning the soul or mind, as it is the fountain and seat of the thoughts, passions, desires, appetites, affections, purposes, endeavours
of the understanding, the faculty and seat of the intelligence of the will and character) come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, theft, false witness, blasphemies.

These are the things which defile a man”.

We must zero in on ‘fornication’; starting with the original Greek porneia, which means – illicit sexual intercourse
    a) adultery, fornication, homosexuality, lesbianism, intercourse with animals etc.

    b) sexual intercourse with close relatives; Lev. 18
    c) sexual intercourse with a divorced man or woman; Mk. 10:11,12

    From blueletterbible.org.

The Lord Jesus Christ clearly states homosexuality, which is birthed in our own mind, is an act of defilement.

Take note of Rev.21:27, ‘but there shall, by no means enter it (God’s kingdom) anything that defiles…’
There is no biblical justification for practicing homosexuality, only an end that will bring eternal wrath. Christ condemns homosexuality by exposing it as an abomination, and defilement. He commands repentance (Matt.4:17; Luke 13, these are just two examples).

The Lord also says “if you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love”.(John 15:10) The evidence that you truly belong to Him is that you do what He commands…repent and forsake your sins! You know what the biggest ‘tool’ Satan uses? Deception; the Lord Jesus warns of this in Matthew 24:4.

Please heed the warning, and remember these haunting words, “not everyone who says to me ‘Lord Lord’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” …verse 23, “then I will declare to them ‘I never knew you, depart from me you workers of lawlessness”.

Those who practice sin prove they belong to their father, the devil (1 John 3:8). No one born of God makes a practice of sinning (1John 3:9). Those who continue in homosexual sin prove they belong to Satan: this is the clear teaching of scripture.

There is hope, and freedom from sin through Jesus Christ and His atoning work on the cross. I plead with sinners to be reconciled to God through the cross of Christ. Cry out to Him, as the tax collector did in Luke 18:13, “God be merciful to me a sinner.”

“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed”. John 8:36

From a former homosexual saved by grace

    1. Dear Lyn,

      Shalom, and love in Jesus.

I praise my Father in Heaven for sending his Son to change you. I pray for dreams and visions to all homosexuals, from the true Jesus. I pray for desires for the opposite sex, and for good and strong marriages between a man and a woman. I pray for good sexual relations between them.

I also acknowledge that some people are called to stay single. Just like Paul. I pray they will be able to avoid burning with passion for the opposite sex, and abstain from any kind of sexual relationships.

Lyn. Thanks for this testimony. I hope and pray that Jesus will keep on blessing you with all kind of Heavenly blessings.

      1. Thank you, I pray for God the Spirit to convict homosexuals of their sins, and grant them repentance (2 Tim.2:25).

        Grace and peace to you
        Lyn

  14. yes, very inspiring to those who have trouble with the problems of which you speak! the Lord has blessed you in many ways, i can tell 😉

  15. lyn,

No where does Christ condemn homosexuality. Neither Matt. 4:17 or Luke 13 condemn it.

From a homosexual loved by grace

    1. Dear Angie.

      Shalom.

      Does Jesus condemn homosexuality?

If the Jesus you follow does not agree with the Bible, He and Father God is not one God. They are TWO. This kind of “Jesus” disagree with His Father, and everything is chaos.

What is homosexual expected to do?

They must pray to Jesus to change them. He can. He can give them dream’s about good sexual relationships with the opposite sex. He can find spouses for them, and arrange for their marriage.

      1. i kindly beg to differ, ivar. im sad to tell you that Jesus cant change anyone. he agreed to giving us this freedom when he created us with free will.

i will now gladly tell you that he does create opportunities for us to change in a way that will be more favourible for our eternal soul. he may not arrange weddings, but he sure does throw in a little bit of graces and blessings into our lives when we are turned around and think he’s not looking and paying attention.

      2. Dear Dashti.

        Shalom.

If we do not listen to Him, and become His subjects, He can make students and followers out of stones. If we do not have faith in Him, we are walking is disobedience and faithlessness. We deceive our self, and we deceive others.

“A Jesus” who we feel we can summon to bless our sins, Is Satan him self coming to us with a copy cat “Jesus”.

      3. yes, but we cannot be changed by God lest it be his will. if it is his will, it is up to us to put his words in action so that we might change ourselves. God wont help us to change, or do anything else for that matter, unless we put our trust in him and LET Him lead the way.
        ~D~

  16. To dashti,
Please read Eph.2:1, how can a dead man answer the call to repent and believe? I pray you will study the doctrine of total depravity: man has free will to pick his clothing, or his style of hair. Man has no will to come to Christ, read John 6:44. Our sinful nature as well as our wicked hearts (Jer.17:9) keep us from coming. Salvation is of the Lord. What did Christ tell his disciples in John 15:16?
    Grace and peace,
    Lyn

    1. lyn,

I’m glad you shared your testimony. I hope that it helps others.

I do want to mention that the doctrine you are praying for dashti to read, the doctrine of total depravity, that is a false doctrine.
Jesus died for the sins of the whole world, for all men. We have the ability to believe in God and Jesus. People choose to obey and believe or they choose not too.

      God bless.

      1. Dear Victoria.

        Shalom.

The doctrine of total depravity is based on the teaching that man is totally unable to chose God (Chose what is right). That is why man need a priesthood as a mediator between man and God, some additions to Jesus. Jesus tells us something quite different. He said: Truth seekers shall find. God of the Bible also tell us to chose.

        Deuteronomy 30:10-13

If you obey the LORD your God and keep his commands and decrees that are written in this Book of the Law and turn to the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach. It is not up in heaven, so that you have to ask, “Who will ascend into heaven to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?” Nor is it beyond the sea, so that you have to ask, “Who will cross the sea to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?”

        Deuteronomy 30:19
This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live

      2. The doctrine of depravity has nothing to do with who Jesus died for; you are confusing that with the doctrine of limited atonement. All mankind are born sinners (Psalm 51:5) none are good. Ephesians 2:1 states ‘and you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins’. This verse makes it clear, we are spiritually dead until Almighty God quickens, or makes alive dead sinners. Be careful trying to take credit for something the Lord has done, “My glory I will not give to another”. Isaiah 42:8

      3. Dear Lyn

        Shalom.

You wrote about depravity, and I have to disagree.

I can not agree that we are predestined. That removes the X-factor of the creation, our free will. A god that does not give us the chance to find Him, do send innocent people to Hell. Eve had a chance to listen to God. By her free will she listen to Satan, and was deceived.

I am not going to be cast into Hell for the sin of Adam and Eve. Neither because of yours, or the national sin of the USA. I will be cast into Hell because of my own sins. If I seek God, I will find Him. If I seek for the truth, I shall be embraced by Jesus, and be forgiven.

I am saved. Today. Purchased by the blood of Jesus.

This is the Jesus I believe in. He is my Master and my best friend.

        Deuteronomy 4:29
But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul.

        Proverbs 11:27
He who seeks good finds goodwill, but evil comes to him who searches for it.

        Matthew 7:8
For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

Predestination is basically Calvinism. That God predestined people for Heaven and Hell. I do not agree. God search for us, and do not want anyone to perish. By our own foolishness, and rejection of the truth, we will perish.

      4. lyn,

You tell Ivar that “The doctrine of depravity has nothing to do with who Jesus died for; you are confusing that with the doctrine of limited atonement.”

You are the one confused. All five points of the TULIP of Calvinism depend on total depravity. Total depravity is not from the Word of God, in fact, it goes against God’s Word.

If people were “totally depraved,” then Noah couldn’t be called a righteous man (see Genesis 6:9).
And Job couldn’t be called blameless and upright (see Job 1:1).
And about Cornelius, a righteous and God-fearing man—The men replied, “We have come from Cornelius the centurion. He is a righteous and God-fearing man, who is respected by all the Jewish people. A holy angel told him to have you come to his house so that he could hear what you have to say.”

How could that be said about Cornelius, if we all are born totally depraved?

If all are totally depraved, then Jesus would not tell us to become as little children.
And there would be no noble and good hearts that Jesus speaks of in Luke 8:15!

Repent of your false doctrine. You are doing the devil’s work when you believe and teach what goes against the Word of God.

  17. Those verses are commands which does not mean we have free will to choose: we are commanded to repent, which we cannot do unless God grants it ( please read 2 tim.2:25). Commands do not mean we have the ability to choose to obey. This is why arminianism is so dangerous, it claims you can be saved by choosing Jesus, by making a decision, or inviting him into your heart; this is salvation by works. Read Ephesians 2:8-9, ‘for by grace are you saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is a gift of God, not of works lest any man boast.’ You nullify the doctrine of grace when you insist one has free will to accept Christ. Yes, Christ died for all, but not everyone is going to heaven. Only those who the Father draws can come to Jesus (read John 6:44). Look at how He called His disciples, “come, follow me”. If the disciples have free will, why didn’t they go up to Jesus and tell Him they wanted to follow Him? Why did He go to them first?
“You did not choose me, but I chose you”…John 15:16 These are the very words of our Lord, how can anyone read that and still insist they have free will? Is Jesus a liar? Certainly not! Man’s pride will not allow him to admit he has no free will to chose Christ. We are all Christ-rejecting, God-hating sinners who love our sins, our minds are incurably sick (Jer.17:9) and in spiritual darkness, our nature is corrupt. From Charles Spurgeon’s sermon entitled ‘human inability’, he states “through the fall, and through our own sin, the nature of man has become so debased, depraved and corrupt that it is impossible for him to come to Christ without the assistance of God the Holy Spirit.’Ye will not come unto me that ye might have life’; as long as ‘ye will not come’ stands on record in Holy Scripture, we shall not be brought to believe in any doctrine of the freedom of the human will”. C.H. Spurgeon

    1. lyn,
You have been ensnared by a false doctrine.

We do have a choice. God did not make human kind without the ability to choose. To deny we have a choice is to go against God in the deepest way.

Read Isaiah 64:5. In this scripture we learn how there are people who gladly choose to do right, but they continued to sin. This shows that we all can choose, but none of us can stop sinning, we all need a Savior so we can stop sinning, that’s why God sent us a Savior, Jesus Christ.

Isaiah 64:5 You come to the help of those who gladly do right,
      who remember your ways.
But when we continued to sin against them,
      you were angry.
How then can we be saved?

Calvinists make God responsible for all sins from everyone, even the sin of the world. The world’s sin is unbelief in Jesus.
      Read what Jesus says in John 16:8,9 When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment: in regard to sin, because men do not believe in me;

You say that grace and faith are the gifts, but the Word of God says the gift is grace—through faith.

You also say it would be works if we had to believe first before we get saved—But that is what Jesus says we have to do! And if you think that believing is a work, then it is the work that God requires!
Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?” Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.” John 6:28-29.

I hope and pray that you stop denying the Word of God.

      1. victoria,
for a lesson on greek grammar construction concerning Ephesians 2:8,9 please go to youtube and search for jim Mc Clarty’s ‘faith is a gift’ video, then you will see what faith is. It explains the neuter demonstrative phrase ‘and that’ & the key role it has in that passage. This video explains it much better than I can; let me know when you have finished watching it.
As for believing, what I am saying is that no one has the ability to do so until God FIRST does a work in them. My proof text is Eph.2:1. How do you interpret that text Victoria?

I do not believe God is responsible for everyone’s sin and would ask you to show me where I have said such: as for denying God’s word, how is that possible when I have given verses to back everything I have said?

Lastly, how do you interpret John 15:16, “you did not choose me, but I chose you”.

      2. Dear Lyn.

        Shalom, and love in Jesus.

        You wrote:

Lastly, how do you interpret John 15:16, “you did not choose me, but I chose you”.

        My reply:

That Jesus chose His disciples is a simple fact from the gospel. Jesus is not a snack bar, from which we can pick and chose. Many people chose the “Jesus” of their choice, and create a ‘god” of their convenience.

It is the true that no one can come to Jesus, if the Father does not draw them closer to His Son. But that is doctrinally very different from the claim that there are person’s the Father does not want to be saved by the Son. People rejected by God even before they rejected the truth. That God destined people for Hell even before they were born.

  18. CoH is one of the most loving and Christ like churches in the nation. And the kind of comments written prove that to be true — the kind of hate mongering and “different is satan” type thinking is about as anti-Jesus as you can get…and its well represented with your readers. Amen CoH and thanks for giving an alternative to the right wing hate filled gospel that is so pervasive in the United States.

  19. Ivarfjeld,
What do you do with this text, “no one seeks for God”-romans 3:11?
What do you do with Romans 9:11-‘in order that God’s purpose of election might continue, not because of works, but of him who calls’; or Romans 9:15-16, ‘for he says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, I will have compassion on whom I have compassion, so then, it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy’. Keep in mind, no one deserves to be saved.
What do you do with Ephesians 1:4, 11; and Romans 8:29-30?
The word of God does not contradict; if God states ‘it depends not on human will’, how is it you claim it does?

    1. Dear Lyn.

      Shalom.

That no one seek God, is Paul quoting from Psalms 14:1-3.

1 The fool[a] says in his heart,
      “There is no God.”
      They are corrupt, their deeds are vile;
there is no one who does good.

The LORD looks down from heaven
      on the sons of men
to see if there are any who understand,
      any who seek God.
      3 All have turned aside,
      they have together become corrupt;
there is no one who does good,
      not even one.

      (end of scriptures)

What is King David talking about?

Is it a sad state of affair inside Israel? When the day arrived, and no one searched for God, they were all exiled.

Later, they repented, and searched for God. The tribes of Judah and Benjamin went home to Jerusalem from Babylon.

During slavery in Egypt the Jewish people asked God, if he had forgotten them? How could they do so, if they were not wondering where He had disappeared?

When Jesus arrived, people shouted: “Son of David, have mercy on me”. They were waiting for the Messiah. A blind man searching for the Son of God, the prophet’s had said would come.

    2. lyn,
No one seeks after God—that is why we need a Savior, and we have a Savior, Jesus Christ.

Faith comes when we hear the message (Romans 10:17. The scriptures don’t say faith comes by special enabling of the Holy Spirit, in fact, we don’t get the Holy Spirit until after we obey! See Acts 5:32.
We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him. Acts 5:32.
The Holy Spirit is given to those who obey him. Yes, we actually have to obey to be given the Holy Spirit.

None of the scriptures you posted support your false beliefs.

Romans 9:15-16, ‘for he says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, I will have compassion on whom I have compassion, so then, it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy’. Keep in mind, no one deserves to be saved.

Romans 9:15-16 is about God allowing the Gentiles to have salvation! The Jews were the ones with the law of works! But now the Gentiles can have salvation by just believing! Because God can have mercy on whom He wants!

Romans 8:29-30 is about the Jews being the foreknown, that they also are predestined to be made in the likeness of Christ, even though many were hardened.
See Romans 11:2, the Jews are those God foreknew. And God has foreknowledge of everything and everyone! Read 1 Peter 1:2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

Don’t miss what is being said in Ephesians 1, nor add or subtract what is said. Ephesians 1:4-11 we learn THE PLAN IS PREDESTINED FOR THOSE WHO WILL BELIEVE IN JESUS.

NOW GO JUST TWO SCRIPTURES FURTHER AND READ EPHESIANS VERSE 13 CAREFULLY: 13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit,

Stop believing the twisted strange doctrine of John Calvin, believe on the Word of God!
The plan was predestined—for those who would believe!!!

I’m not going to watch your videos. I know what your beliefs are. For a very short time, I was talked into Calvinism. I thank God, through Jesus Christ, that my Shepherd Jesus led me out of that falseness. I want God’s Truth more than I want food and sleep.
I hope you get out of that falseness too.

      1. You refuse to watch tbe video which explains the construction of the sentence in Greek grammar, that’s unfortunate because it proves you wrong, which is probably why you refuse to watch. As for Calvin, I have never read anything from him, I only study God’s word by using Greek Hebrew lexicons, and by interpreting scripture with scripture. I do not cherry pick verses to fit my view.

grace and peace to you Victoria
        lyn

      2. Dear Lyn and Victoria.

        Shalom.

Sometimes we need to agree that we disagree, without using the falsehood label. I can see that every man who is saved, is a miracle. If it was Jesus who found me first, or I who searched for Him and He embraced me, is not a matter of 100 per cent surety. We all have different experiences. I guess it can be a little of both. The most important thing, is that I today say that Jesus is alive. I know for sure that He has paid the perfect atonement for my sins, and that I am reunited with my Pappa in Heaven.

        Can we agree on that?

      3. Ivar,
I will not continue debating this here, if you would like me to stop.
But it’s not just a matter of if we found God first or if God found us first.

We would not even know of Jesus if someone didn’t preach the message of Jesus.

Romans 10:14 How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?

People must speak up when they hear falseness. If you are sure that Catholicism is false, then don’t blame me if I’m sure about Calvinism being false. It would be hypocritical to correct one but stop someone else from correcting the other.
I think all false doctrine is bad, and the doctrine of total depravity is no small matter, it goes against the Word of God deeply and completely.

      4. Dear Lyn and Victoria.

        Shalom.

You are both free to debate on this site. You are also free not to debate. The News That Matters team is not a judge over how you both will spend your time. I do regret that we too often use the falsehood label. We must be able to disagree on doctrines, without excluding those we disagree with from Christianity. Such an attitude is the view of cult’s, and people who have joined sects, claimed to be Christians who have never known the agape love of Jesus.

I am blessed by Lyn appearing on this site. I know she loves Jesus, but must be allowed to disagree with her. Likewise I do look differently on certain issues than Victoria, and we have had rather heated exchange of comments in the past.

I hope and pray that this response was useful, and gave honor to Jesus.

      5. Dear Lyn

        Shalom.

        You asked:

Let me ask you this Victoria, homosexuals who attend the church this article speaks of claim to believe in Jesus, and yet they are still in their sins…why?

        My reply:

This is an interesting question. My best take is that they have be deceived by false teachers, who do not teach the Word of God. While the Bible says homosexuals must surrender to Jesus who is able to change them, such priests bless sins, and present them as “holy”. They say it is impossible for God, and not required for Jesus to change gey’s.

You are an example of Jesus changing people and lead you into the narrow path towards the gate of the Kingdom of Heaven.

I had other grave sins in my life, that I handed over to Jesus. Now I stand saved and changed by Him.

      6. Dear Victoria

        Shalom.

        You wrote:

If you are sure that Catholicism is false, then don’t blame me if I’m sure about Calvinism being false.

        My reply:

There are people on this site who feel Catholicism is correct Christianity. How do you approach them? Do you hate them? Or do you love them enough to tell them the truth?

I do not recognize Catholicism as Christianity. Neither is Buddhism.

There are certain doctrines within the Lutheran movement that I strongly disagree with. But I do not label this sector of Christianity as false Christianity. There are surely “Lutherans” who will not make it to the Kingdom of Heaven. But there are also Pentecostal who have been royally deceived, and appear hopelessly disconnected from the true, loving and forgiving Messiah.

John Calvin did not get everything right. Neither do I, nor do you. Let us therefore have an open debate on faith, and lead people towards the truth. Let us be able to agree that we disagree.

      7. Amen, Ivar. Back to the basics.

Let’s not rip each other apart in any way , but respectfully disagree and move on when the merry-go-round goes nowhere fast.

You both love the Lord, now love each other. Amen.
        Sue

      8. lyn,

I already know about what you want me to believe. I have many Bible translations, and they were translated by many many translators. I don’t need to learn Greek to know the Truth.
It doesn’t matter if you ever read anything from Calvin or not—Calvinism is taught, and is the belief of the reformed churches.
I hope you prayerfully go over what I posted.
I will no longer debate this here. I am thankful that Ivar let me post about it as much as I have.
        God bless.

      9. Dear Ivar and Sueliz,

I do not rip anyone up. The word of God is a double edged sword, so I guess those who don’t want to hear the truth will be offended. Nor do I go on merry go rounds. I tell people the truth, and I tell them out of love. To know Jesus better is to help people get closer to Him.
If not lyn, then someone else might of been helped by what I say.

I must speak up about the Truth when the need arises. It would be a serious wrong to say nothing, even when I will get criticized. But the Word of God says, “Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for that is how their fathers treated the false prophets.” And, “If I were trying to please men then I wouldn’t be a servant of God.”
lyn gave another poster, dashti, the advice to learn and follow the doctrine of total depravity. And I spoke up about the Truth.

        God bless

  20. Concerning John 15:16, here is commentary from Matthew Henry, (4.) Christ loved his disciples, for he chose and ordained them to be the prime instruments of his glory and honour in the world (v. 16): I have chosen you, and ordained you, His love to them appeared,
[1.] In their election, their election to their apostleship (ch. 6:70): I have chosen you twelve. It did not begin on their side: You have not chosen me, but I first chose you. Why were they admitted to such an intimacy with him, employed in such an embassy for him, and endued with such power from on high? It was not owing to their wisdom and goodness in choosing him for their Master, but to his favour and grace in choosing them for his disciples. It is fit that Christ should have the choosing of his own ministers; still he does it by his providence and Spirit. Though ministers make that holy calling their own choice, Christ’s choice is prior to theirs and directs and determines it. Of all that are chosen to grace and glory it may be said, They have not chosen Christ, but he had chosen them, Deu. 7:7, 8.

  21. Let me ask you this Victoria, homosexuals who attend the church this article speaks of claim to believe in Jesus, and yet they are still in their sins…why?

  22. Victoria,
You claim the doctrine of depravity is false, based on your opinion. You accuse me of false beliefs, even though I have provided verse after verse to prove what I say. You attack me based on nothing more than your opinion and personal choice, which is not how one should debate scripture; nor should one come to a conclusion concerning others.

Instead of debating using God’s word, you label me and state my beliefs are false: this is a very serious accusation, one I do hope God will enlighten you in. I see your shallowness and false accusations as a need for prayer on your behalf.
We should never attack another person when attempting to expose false beliefs; instead we must tear down their false beliefs using God’s word…and nothing else: no name calling or false accusations should ever be directed at a person. I pray you will take this to heart.
I encourage you to study God’s word, dig into it and get the precious knowledge that awaits those who do: cry out for wisdom and seek her as one who seeks after riches.

Saved and kept solely by grace
    lyn

    1. unworthy1,

It is not just my opinion that total depravity is a false doctrine.
You should not be so offended when someone tells you that you are believing a lie, for at one time people told me that, and I am grateful to God that He sent people in my life to tell me the truth.

It is more telling about what kind of person you are if you get so angry or not at the one saying you need to repent. I’m glad that I was humble enough and kind enough to listen to those who told me to repent for being in a false religion.

You assume some things about me here that you should not. You are being passive aggressive when you say to me to study God’s word.

You were trying to lead someone into the false doctrine of total depravity. I was for a short time distressed by being led into that falseness. It is no slight matter.

I have called you no names, and my conscience is clear in the way I debated you.

      God bless.

      1. Dear Victoria:

        You said:

It is more telling about what kind of person you are if you get so angry or not at the one saying you need to repent. I’m glad that I was humble enough and kind enough to listen to those who told me to repent for being in a false religion.

        My comment:
This was not a humble comment to say “I’m glad I was humble enough and kind enough”
You are patting yourself on the back like the man who said “I’m glad I’m not like the tax collectors”
This does not foster sisterhood between the two of you, but division. Agree to disagree and be done with it.
Season your speech with love an kindness. It will go a long way.
Everyone is welcome to debate with love and kindness.

        You said:

It is more telling about what kind of person you are if you get so angry or not at the one saying you need to repent.
        My comment:

Is this necessary? You are also getting angry and it shows in your speech.
        Why not agree to disagree.
I appreciate the both of you.

        In Him,
        Sue

      2. Sueliz,
You are sinning when you try to judge me and the intentions of my heart. Do you like falsely judging and accusing? Why are you doing it? I’m not like the man who didn’t feel bad for his sins! You need to stop, it’s a sin. Listen how you speak to me. Take your own advice on how to speak to others.
        God bless.

      3. Victoria.

        Peace be with you.
Do you think it’s a humble statement to say” I’m glad I was humble and kind enough to listen? ”
Accusing me or sinning is a stretch. But you have the right to your opinion just like Lyn.

I wish you peace Victoria. Forgive me if I get impatient reading the bickering. I’m sorry if I offended you.
Let’s deify one another on this blog.
        In Him.
        sue

      4. Sueliz,
You are sinning when you are judging and accusing me, and falsely at that. You say horrific things to me about not sounding loving and sounding angry. Shame on you. Do you need scriptures?

Yes it is good to tell people they need to humble themselves. God tells us to humble ourselves. It was life saving when I obeyed God and humbled myself and repented when people kept telling me I was in a false religion.
Please don’t accuse me of bickering when I am explaining scriptures to someone who asked. How dare you call it bickering. I should not be surprised, though. I have been speaking the Truth to many for a while now, and I learn to dodge all kinds of arrows.

I forgive you and am sorry about the wrong way you feel about me. I hope that this conversation with me helps you in the seriousness of trying to judge the intentions of a servants heart. May God bless you.

      5. Dear Victoria.

        Shalom.

        You wrote:

        My reply:

We have been here before Victoria, many times. You come, get offended, leave for some time, and return to quarrel. This must end.

I am no longer baffled by your attack on people, accusing them of attacking you, having absolutely not done so. Will we ever see an end to this kind of not fruitful comments?

    1. Dear Lyn.

      Shalom.

You have already become a blessing to all the readers of News That Matters. But most important: You are a blessing to our Master Jesus of Nazareth.
