There is no need for Jews to have faith in Jesus, claims Rabbi Sholomon Riskin. He found a friend in the Pope.
Stop all conversion. That is the vision behind “The Center for Jewish-Christian Understanding and Cooperation”. (CJCUC).
Rabbi Shlomon Riskin was in the Vatican last week, and greeted the Pope as “your Holiness”. This is a report from the CJCUC website:
After Attending the Papal General Audience yesterday, Rabbi Shlomo Riskin, chief Rabbi of Efrat and chancellor of The Center for Jewish-Christian Understanding and Cooperation (CJCUC) had an audience with Pope Benedict XVI at the Vatican briefing him on the work the CJCUC is doing in Israel.
“We are taking Your Holiness’ call to stand in solidarity with our Christian brothers and sisters in Israel and advocating on their behalf,” Riskin said.
Rabbi Riskin also informed the Pope of the dialogue opportunities for Christians visiting Israel in which they can learn more about the Jewish foundations of the Christian faith.
In response, Pope Benedict XVI commented that “we need to work together.”
To fully understand the papal audience, we need to take a look at the vision behind CJCUC.
The discourse that takes place encompasses a mutual respect of each other’s faith and defies any goal of converting one to the faith of the other.
Both of our faith communities originate in G-d’s election, are constituted by G-d’s covenant, and anticipate G-d’s redemption. We must better understand each other so that we may even more firmly support each other – and together turn a fragile and fragmented world on the brink of disaster into a united world community committed to a G-d of love and peace.
The present rabbi and the Chief Rabbis in Jerusalem 2.000 years ago, are of the same opinion.
They both claims the son of a carpenter in Nazareth, was and is a deceiver, and not the Son of God, the promised Messiah.
The High priest in Jerusalem, requested the Roman Governor not to write on the cross, “The King of the Jews”. Rather to write “this man claimed to be the king of the Jews”.
The chief priests of the Jews protested to Pilate, “Do not write ‘The King of the Jews,’ but that this man claimed to be king of the Jews.”
The Pope has no problem, promising not to make Jews proselytes of their own Messiah. That makes the Pope fit perfectly into the seat of an anti-Christ. I agree with all Jews, who says they must never become “Catholics”. But they have to become Messianic, understanding that Yeshua is the only one who can save them from their sins. If not, like the Pope, they will perish.
I told you that you would die in your sins; if you do not believe that I am he, you will indeed die in your sins.”
