Moslem king of Jordan opens “World Interfaith Harmony Week”

King Abdullah II on Tuesday underlined the country’s commitment to enhancing concepts of tolerance, love and coexistence among followers of different religions, stressing the important role places of worship play in entrenching the concepts.

You almost never see Abdullah smiling, because his life is one big hassle after another.

King Abdullah made the remark during a meeting with several Jordanian Muslim and Christian leaders on the occasion of World Interfaith Harmony Week. In September last year, His Majesty proposed the launch of “World Interfaith Harmony Week” at the UN General Assembly, which adopted the initiative in October.

Reaffirming that “mutual understanding and inter-religious dialogue constitute important dimensions of a culture of peace”, the UN General Assembly proclaimed “the first week of February of every year World Interfaith Harmony Week between all religions, faiths and beliefs”.

The week serves as a voluntary occasion for people to express their own religious teachings about tolerance, respect for others and peace, in hopes of bringing people together across the globe.

The King yesterday noted that the initiative started as part of the country’s efforts to build bridges of communication and correct misconceptions among followers of different religions to serve the interests of humankind, Petra reported.

The religious figures commended the Monarch’s efforts to promote tolerance and coexistence among worshipers of different faiths as well as his efforts to bring about a just and comprehensive peace in the region.

They also praised King Abdullah’s role in safeguarding Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

My comments;

King Abdullah II is a secular Moslem leader who probably views about 95% of what he does on a daily basis as a huge pain the in backside that he’d just as soon not have to bother with. Most of the time when I see him on TV my primary feeling is pity, mixed with a touch of admiration that he stays in his job, which is one of the worst jobs on the planet, instead of chucking it all and going off to live on some island in the middle of the Pacific somewhere where no one knows him and he doesn’t have to be responsible for anything.

That’s probably what I’d do if I was him.

So I can’t really blame him too much for launching this “World Interfaith Harmony” nonsense.  It probably seemed like a good way for him to get the people who live in the country he has the bad luck to be the leader of to stop fighting with each other, which would save him and his security forces a great deal of hassle.

Since he’s agnostic himself, he also probably doesn’t care about the fact that he’s encouraging people who have mutually exclusive theological narratives to ignore their differences, which are actually matters of spiritual life or death if one takes the Bible seriously.

But the “Christian” leaders who are participating in this event are making a huge mistake, for they have forgotten the words of the Apostle Paul in II Corinthians 6:14;

Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness?

And the words of Yeshua Ha’Mashiach (Jesus Christ) Himself, who said in John 14:6;

I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me

These are hard words for our post-modern, secular humanist, multiculturalists ears to hear, but they are the Word of God, and they are not open for debate or discussion.

There cannot be any compromise between the Bible and the Koran, because they are two books that tell two diametrically opposed, mutually exclusive stories about who God is, who Jesus is, and what the relationship between God and His creation is. They also tell two mutually exclusive stories about the future.

If you call yourself a “Christian” but the Bible is so meaningless to you that you can say with a straight face that Moslems and Christians worship the same god than you are simply lying to yourself and God.

  1. 10`And those servants, having gone forth to the ways, did gather all, as many as they found, both bad and good, and the marriage-feast apartment was filled with those reclining. 11`And the king having come in to view those reclining, saw there a man not clothed with clothing of the marriage-feast, 12and he saith to him, Comrade, how didst thou come in hither, not having clothing of the marriage-feast? and he was speechless. 13`Then said the king to the ministrants, Having bound his feet and hands, take him up and cast forth to the outer darkness, there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of the teeth;
    14 for many are called, and few chosen.’

    How surprised will many people be who believe they are right with God in all these vast religions. Only those washed by the Blood of Christ, and robed in HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS, will be allowed to the Marriage Feast of the Lamb and enter into Heaven.
