Elizabeth says, “My 7-year-old son has lost touch with reality, I think. He says he feels like he’s in a dream and nothing is real. He sees things and hears voices telling him to do bad things. He is bipolar, has autism, anxiety disorder, ADHD, ODD and OCD. He has tried many medications that either don’t help or make things worse. He says the voices are telling him to kill himself. What should I do? I’m so scared for him.”
The above was written by a mother who asked CNN Mental Health Expert Charles Raison on what to do.
Charles responds by saying, “Your son’s situation is obviously a psychiatric emergency, and I am truly sorry to hear of his very serious problems. The fact that he has been given so many diagnoses points to two things: first, how common it is for psychiatric conditions to co-occur; and second, how difficult it can be to diagnose children.”
Charles also stated, “Of the problem you list, the two I worry about most as a psychiatrist are the suicidal thoughts and the psychotic symptoms (i.e. hearing voices). It is unusual for children to kill themselves, but not unheard of, and children are so guileless that if they tell you they are thinking about killing themselves, they need to be taken with utmost seriousness.”
Before I begin commenting specifically on the above subject, I want to make it clear, I believe doctors are here to help us medically. I for one need to take an asthma medication everyday to be able to breathe properly.
Does that mean that I discount that God can heal me?
Only God knows all reasons and all whys. I have prayed for God’s healing, and I have left it in the hands of Christ.
Now regarding the 7 year old boy who has lost touch with reality, reading this story and an extended version of it when it was posted later in 2010 has led me to believe that this boy is being plagued by demons.
The fact that he has tried many medications that have not helped or made his symptoms worse, tells me that Elizabeth Rooks needs to look to Our Savior for help. If he were a true Christian, Dr. Raison would have told Elizabeth that.
Do I think this by is demon possessed? Not necessarily. Do I think this boy is being plagued by demons? Absolutely. Let’s look into what the Word of God says about demonic possession.
Acts 16 verse 16 to 18 speaks of a woman possessed by a demon:
Once when we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a female slave who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. She earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling. She followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved. She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul became so annoyed that he turned around and said to the spirit, “In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!” At that moment the spirit left her.
The above bible verse proves that demons can possess people. They can also torture people like the 7 year old boy in the article above.
Crowds gathered also from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing their sick and those tormented by impure spirits, and all of them were healed.
A believer in Christ has the authority by Our Savior to drive out demons in his name.
He called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out evil spirits and to heal every disease and sickness.
In the name of Jesus, I have rebuked demons that have tried to torment me, and they have fled. The Word of God tell us that even the demons know who Christ is and shudder. We are living in the end of age, and must put on the full armor of God. Rebuke these spirits, and they will flee.
Ephesians 6: 11
Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.
