Continuing violence on the Gaza Border

“In response to the intense rocket fire in the past 72 hours, overnight the Israel Air Force targeted two terror sites in the northern and southern Gaza Strip. Direct hits were confirmed.”

The circle of violence in Hamas-controlled Gaza is without end.

This is a message from the Israeli Defense Force (IDF).

“The IDF holds the Hamas terrorist organization solely responsible for maintaining the calm in the Gaza Strip and for any terrorist activity emanating from it. The IDF will also continue to respond harshly to any attempt to use terror against the State of Israel,” the statement continued.

The strikes come after Hamas said on Sunday that it was in contact with other groups in the Gaza Strip to reduce the recent attacks in the area so as to avoid another war with Israel. Representatives of the Islamist movement said that they have urged the groups to abide by an unofficial ceasefire and to stop firing rockets and mortars at Israeli communities. Hamas has even threatened any Palestinian who launches attacks on Israel.

Hamas leader Mahmoud Zahar was quoted on Sunday as saying that his movement was “only a few steps away from achieving a historic victory” over Israel.

Hamas is pragmatic but still determined to wipe Israel out.

“The victory will cost us many of our sons,”

This is what Zahar told supporters in the Gaza Strip on the second anniversary of Operation Cast Lead.

“But in the next confrontation with the Zionist entity, we will fulfill the dream of our fathers.”

My comment:

When Hamas took over political control of the Gaza Strip in early 2007 there were many people who said that this might serve to “moderate” the terrorist organization.

They said this because they would now have a population to govern and that would inevitably lead them to be less eager for confrontations with Israel.

The simple logic is that when you’ve got nothing, you’ve got nothing to lose. As soon as you have something, you have to worry about losing it, and this will make you more averse to taking risks.

There probably is something to this argument, and Hamas definitely has a pragmatic streak that would rather wait and gather strength before the next big fight with Israel.

But we must not forget that Hamas is, first and foremost, a Moslem triumphalist organization that believes ALL of the world must submit to the god of the Koran. Since they also see themselves as the guardians of Palestinian nationalism, their reluctance to fight Israel in January of 2011 must not be seen as a long term strategy.

They will not stop fighting against Israel until they’ve won, been wiped out, or abandoned Islam for the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ.  I’m sure you don’t have to ask me what outcome I’m praying for, and what I would suggest we all pray for.

  1. I cant understand how these people can rejoice in their cult of death, to celebrate when people are killed and families destroyed, the more savage the death the greater their celebration seems to be and not one muslim questions it. Its a fact that if islam layed down its weapons the killing would stop, Israel is forced to kill in order to defend itself but Israel does not rejoice in it nor march in the streets, no jew burns arab flags and urinates on them, only islam has kept these people in the dark ages, satan is behind it and they dont see it until they themselves die, Come Lord Jesus,
