«I am a Palestinian, but don’t like the name. Palestine is a name the Romans gave Eretz Yisrael with the express purpose of infuriating defeated Jews»
«Why should we use a spiteful name meant to humiliate us?»
«Christendom inherited the name from Rome and the British chose to call the land they mandated Palestine. Local Arabs picked it up as their nation’s supposed ancient name, though they couldn’t even pronounce it correctly, and turned it into Filastin, a fictional entity».
Gold Meir was elected Prime Minister of Israel on 17 March 1969, after serving as Minister of Labour and Foreign Minister. She was Israel’s first and the world’s third female to hold such an office.
I only uses the name «Palestine» for educational purposes. And I do it, because the World needs to know the difference between an Arab Palestinian and an Israeli Arab.
The group Arab Palestinians are different from the Israeli Arabs. The difference is that the first group refused an invitation to stay behind in Israel, when the Arabs launched their first war on the Jewish state in 1948. Arab Palestinians have never made peace with Israel, and probably never will.
The other group are two million people, mostly Muslims who refused to leave the Zionist state, and got Israeli citizenship. The existence of Israeli Arabs will forever put into shame those who claim that Israel is a racist state.
If we call both these groups Israeli Arabs, we commit a grave mistake. Likewise we commit a huge error by calling them both «Palestinians».
