Norway and the US is fresh members of the Human Right Council in the United Nations. The Norwegian Minister for Foreign Affairs Jonas Gahr Støre gives a fresh warning from Oslo: «Dont boycott Ahmadinejad».
Støre was the only Western European Minister who chose to sit put during President Ahmadinejad`s Anti-semitic speech in Geneva.
13th of May, in a readers letter in the Norwegian Newspaper «Verdens Gang» (VG), Støre gave the following statement to explain his «No to boycott» during the Durban II conference:
«To not participate is always an option. But there is only a few examples were not attending has expressed wisdom, and very rarely it will be effective».
Støre do not want to boycott regimes like the Ahmadinejad ruled Iran. «This kind of action will radicalize the opposite part», explains Støre.
The not yet to become Prime Minister of United Kingdom, Winston Churchill, denouncing the 1938 Munich Agreement in the House of Commons:
«We have suffered a total and unmitigated defeat…you will find that in a period of time which may be measured by years, but may be measured by months, Czechoslovakia will be engulfed in the Nazi régime. We are in the presence of a disaster of the first magnitude».
Winston Churchill seems to be a lot wiser man than Jonas Gahr Støre. He did not want to negotiate «peace deals» with Fascists.
Churchill was right:
The «peace deal» between Chamberlain and Hitler lead Europe into a false and cowardly peace.
If the West had boycotted and overturned Hitler, is stead of giving Sudetenland to the Nazis, million of lives could have been saved.
The 15th of March 1939, Wehrmacht invaded the rest of Czechoslovakia during Operation Southeast. The state of Czechoslovakia seized to exist.
When Nazi-Germany was the host of the Olympic Games in 1936, the World refused to listen to those who suggested that all free and democratic nations should boycott.
Ernst Lee Jahncke was right
On of them was Ernst Lee Jahncke, a former assistant secretary of the U.S. Navy. He was expelled from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in July 1936 after taking a strong public stand against the Berlin Games. The IOC pointedly elected Avery Brundage to fill Jahncke’s seat. Jahncke is the only member in the 100-year history of the IOC to be ejected.
Its also worth noticing, that while the Norwegian Minister for Foreign Affairs does not want to boycott the Ahmadinejad controlled Iran, His Labor party Union (LO) in Norway, is a strong promoter of boycott of products from Israel.
