Syria continues to arm the Iranian-backed Shi’ite Hizbullah terror leader Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah with advanced weaponry and equipment. This goes on despite the US trying to improve the relations with Sunni Arab countries.

Syria learned many important lessons about Israel during the Second Lebanon War in 2006. Syria supplied advanced anti-aircraft and anti-tank missiles that Hizbullah used effectively to inflict casualties in Israeli soldiers and civilians in summer 2006.

According to Israel’s Channel 2, Syria keeps on supplying Hizbullah. The Islamic terror organization is a useful ally for Damascus, in any future regional war with Israel. By letting Hizbullah fight a proxy war, Syria avoids fighting Israel in the Golan Heights.

Syria is also trying to acquire sophisticated ballistic missiles and guidance systems which would allow it to target military facilities and important infrastructure inside Israel in a future war, This kind of weapons will allow Syria to avoid direct conflict with Israel’s superior armor and infantry units.
